This cottage has all of the charm you'd expect. It sits on a quiet gravel road across from Lake Superior. It is quite ideal for walking your dog(s) and for those early morning strolls or late night star-gazing walks. Enjoy some Lake Superior views off of the front deck or sit inside by the stone fireplace and read, catch up on each other's lives, play some cards, put a puzzle together...reconnect and rejuvenate. There are no TVs but there is a Bluetooth/iPod/iPhone docking device for your music and news. We have plenty of books in our free book exchange and the Big Lake is always there to listen to. Two separate bedrooms have reading lights and very comfortable, quality beds/bedding. There is one 3/4 bath complete with towels and paper products. The full kitchen contains all one would need to make staying in and making your own meals a pleasure. Grilling out on the charcoal Webber that's there for your use is a great option, too. There are 3 cottages within our small resort which goes by the name of Kah-Nee-Tah Gallery & Cottages. Each one offers privacy and easy access to all of the surrounding hotspots. Cascade State Park is the closest but other State Parks are nearby, too. Lutsen Ski Hill, Lutsen Resort and Superior National Golf Course are all within a few miles. If you enjoy fishing there are many inland fishing lakes & rivers to test your angling skills. The most beautiful selection of rivers, hiking & biking trails are just outside the door and we're just a few miles from Grand Marais (which was just voted to be "The Coolest Small Town in America"!!!).
Comfortable 2 bedroom cottage with a stone fireplace, comfortable & cozy spot.

About Linda Garrity
My daughter and I moved up to the North Shore several years ago and hit the ground running. We are both enjoying owning Kah-Nee-Tah Gallery & Cottages so much and appreciate the charm and rustic feel that the cottages have.
Linda Garrity purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Linda Garrity chose Lutsen
The cottages are extremely affordable, charming and are very unique in that they still have a true cabin feel.
What makes this Cottage unique
We are a dog-friendly resort and invite you to bring your furry family members!
Everything you want when you book a cabin in the woods!
We came across this cabin by chance online while looking for a place to get away for a weekend. Truly from the moment we walked in the door, we enjoyed every minute. The kitchen is stocked with the essentials for cooking, it was cozy and quaint, and the fire place was even setup and ready for us to light. There was a little book for people to write their stories in as they have stayed there over time. Honestly, we feel lucky we found it, and we drove back into the city feeling like 100%, with a certainty that we will be going back there time and time again.
Always a great get away!
Nice to have a place to take our dogs. Art Gallery was a bonus.
Absolutely loved our stay! Nice and clean. Had all the utincels nessacary for any cooking we did.plenty of firewood to burn on a chilly October evening! Loved it. Thanks Linda for sharing your cottage with us.
Great Cabin on the North Shore
Enjoyed our stay at the Lakeview Cottage on the North Shore for our annual fall trip with friends. Fireplace was awesome for an evening glass of wine and good book. Loved the deck for morning coffee to watch the many blue jays, red squirrels and other wildlife. The kitchen was well appointed with everything you need to cook meals. Great shower and appreciated the extra's - body lotion, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Place was spotless with comfy beds, sheets and pillows. We'll definitely stay here again next year. Many thanks!
We totally enjoyed our time at Lakeview cottage!
Nice But Mice
This property consists of three cottages that probably date from the 1940's or earlier. This gives them a nice rustic feel but also comes with other problems. Apparently mice infestation is one of them. We did not see any mice but one of our dogs got into a baited plastic mouse trap the first night and was working on chewing through it, which would have poisoned him had we not caught it in time. We then went on a search and found 4 other traps hidden in various hard to find recesses all of which would have been accessible to a small dog. Thinking we got them all we we found him going after another that we had missed the following day. Then, as we were preparing to leave and the weather had warmed up, we noticed a strong scent of decaying flesh in the kitchen cabinet areas, most likely a mouse that had consumed the poison at some unknown date in the recent past. We did not investigate further.
The cabins do not have access to Lake Superior as they are on the opposite side of a dirt road with other properties located directly on the lake so there is no opportunity to go down to overlook the lake but you can hear it a bit from the cabins..
Also the cabins did not have proper draperies, the ones used being see through so there was no privacy at night. Given that we had the middle cabin, renters in the other two cabins would parade around in front of it when walking their dogs.
Other than that we did like the rusticity of the place and it was convenient to other locations on the North Shore. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, very nice moose themed plates, and various herbs, salts and peppers. The refrigerator was full sized with two ice cube trays and there was dry wood and kindly in the wood box for the fireplace (which showed signs of having had a fire escape at some point in the past). The gas stove does not seem to have much of a low setting so you have to be careful not to burn your food when using it.
Although the owner supposedly runs the nearby art gallery, she was never there during our stay and the employee who works there denied any responsibility for the cabins. We were told the that owner is a nearby real estate agent.
Overall I would recommend it but the owner should devise a safer way to deal with the rodent problem that does not pose a hazard to pets since pets are allowed, and which does not create a health issue when poisoned mice crawl into the walls or cupboards to die.
It is unfortunate that, after our communications, you felt the need to issue such a review. As you know, we communicated with our pest control company and you and reassured you that all products used our entirely safe to humans and pets. Part of being a business owner in the Northwoods is having to deal with mice and other pests that live among us and we do everything we can to ensure that any thing used to determine past is safe to both humans and animals. This is the first I’ve ever heard of any issues with the stove/oven as nobody else has ever commented on it. We wholeheartedly want every single guests to enjoy their stay and do all we can to make sure that it is a good experience. Perhaps a more modern lodging location that allows dogs would be a better fit for you in the future. Thank you for staying.
This cottage is only a few miles from Grand Marais, recently voted "America's Coolest Small Town".
