About the property

Beautifully restored, 4 bedroom, three bathroom private residence (Sleeps 6-8)

We are truly pleased to offer the Historic Captain Philip Cory House for guests visiting the Tiverton and Little Compton area. We feel the Captain Philip Cory House nicely compliments our other VRBO properties, The Old Tiverton Four Corners Schoolhouse No.1. located a few doors down along with Potters Corner in neighboring Little Compton. The Captain Philip Cory House is located in the Historic Tiverton Four Corners Area. We provide complimentary Sakonnet Farm Fresh Eggs (seasonally) and Keriug Coffee during your stay.

The Captain Philip Cory House (circa 1770) is a 2 ½ -story, wood clapboard, Federal-inspired, post-and- beam timber frame structure, set gable end to the road, with a 3-bay facade, having three large, brick, interior chimneys (6 fireplaces and an original kitchen bake oven). The house employs the classical details of the Federal and Greek Revival styles, a historic architectural evolution reflected throughout this house.

The Captain Philip Cory House has three upstairs bedrooms. Two with full sized beds, one with twin bunk beds. The three bedrooms are situated around a central living room with an LED TV. There is a fourth bedroom/sitting room down stairs with two twin beds. There are two full bathrooms upstairs. The central bathroom has a marble shower and a Jacuzzi tub and the master bathroom is brand new with a tiled shower. There is a half bath downstairs. WI-FI is provided free of charge for those of you who like to stay in touch while you are on vacation.

The grounds are stunning and impeccably maintained featuring a parterre box garden and a serpentine perennial garden behind 18th century dry-laid fieldstone walls. Large London Plane trees are prominent landscape features, and some may be original to the date of construction of the house. There is a fire pit area in the yard and we have kiln dried firewood for sale at Sakonnet Farm if you should like to enjoy some outside evening time.

After you are done strolling the grounds, amble a short five minute walk north to visit the heart of Historic Tiverton Four Corners, a quaint three-hundred year old cross-roads village. There you will find unique shops, restaurants, Gray’s Ice Cream shop, an Arts Center, Art Galleries, and many other establishments. If you plan on cooking, be sure to visit one of the nearby roadside stands for some tender, sweet, fresh-picked corn.

If you find the The Captain Philip Cory house already booked for the dates you wish please check out our two other vacation rentals located here on VRBO. The Old Tiverton Four Corners Schoolhouse No.1 is located just a few doors down and Potters Corner is located in neighboring Little Compton. Potters Corner is a brand new 3000s.f. Colonial with high end appointments. All Sakonnet Farm properties are maintained with the same high level attention to detail.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Kristin- We had such an amazing stay for our wedding weekend. We enjoyed our rehearsal dinner clam bake on Saturday. The kids had fun on the swing set, playing kickball and wiffle ball in the yard. It was such a great day on Sunday, we enjoyed getting ready and taking pictures here at the Capt. Philip Cory House before heading over to the Meeting House for our wedding.

We enjoyed spending time with our family and friends!! We wish that your future guests enjoy the house as much as we did!

Thank you!

First class historic accommodation in Tiverton Four Corners

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much to the Silveira family for sharing their delightful home. They were a pleasure to deal with and cared about our stay.

We fell in love with the property and we were in awe of every room. This is not your typical rental and we very much appreciated the individual style and homeliness. There was not a corner left uncovered with books, items and antiques of interest. The kitchen was very well stocked and there was no shortage of crockery, utensils and pans. The huge supply of coffee on arrival went down very well too! Compliments to the gardener who gave us a taste of home with the typically English style garden which we and the children took great pleasure in. Toasting marshmallows in the fire pit will always remain a fond memory of our stay.

We enjoyed exploring Four Corners and found the location to be perfect in terms of the areas we wanted to visit. We would not hesitate in recommending you to stay here and we look forward to visiting again on our next trip to New England.

Great for kids!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I attempted our first long weekend away with our seven young children (ages 10 months to ten years) at the Philip Cory House. No vacation with so many littles is terribly relaxing, but we were amazed by what a great fit the house was for our varied needs. Plenty of coffee for the Keurig (and believe us, we were making several cups per day!), spacious and well dispersed bedrooms (our two boys who slept downstairs were up late talking each night, and we never heard them from the upstairs master bedroom), a clean, yet well worn atmosphere (which took so much pressure off making sure everything stayed perfect during our stay), a lovely backyard (in which hundreds of bubbles were blown and popped), a lovely outdoor table and chair set (where we gladly stationed the kiddos to eat each meal to limit kitchen clean up) and absolutely beautiful and updated bathrooms (which, as those with young children know, provided the space for the only alone time each of us got while away - and we were so thankful it was lovely space). In addition, we were there during a bit of a heat wave, and the managers responded almost immediately to our concern about the temperature by installing additional air conditioners. This house is all that the listing promises it to be, and our kids are begging to return. As soon as the two of us recover from our vacation, we will begin to consider another trip...which won't be for at least another four years, but that's entirely because of our children, not the house.

A fantastic home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful home is brimming with historic New England charm, yet extremely well maintained and comfortable. As other reviews have mentioned, the kitchen is large and modern and there is plenty of room for 2-3 couples or families. The play set and expansive yard was perfect for our friends' toddler. The location was terrific - convenient to Providence airport and just over an hour to Boston, which we easily visited in a day. It was also a prime location to visit Newport, Little Compton, and Tiverton (dinner at The Boathouse was a highlight of our stay). We can't wait to visit in summer!

Outstanding Home

  • 5 of 5

The Capt. Philip Cory house is the most perfect place to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday period. It is the quintessential New England home, with all the charm of a bygone era, along with the amenities that we've come to expect in the 21st. century.

Not only are the accommodations perfect, the location is wonderful too! We shopped at Mill Pond, ate at Four Corners Grille, and delighted the children with ice cream at Gray's. These conveniences are only a five minute drive away. We also took advantage of the short trips to Newport to visit the mansions in their holiday splendor, and to Fall River to explore the ships in Battleship Cove.

Many thanks to Kristin , the property manager, who was most prompt in answering our questions.

All these factors contributed to a truly wonderful holiday experience.
