It is a true apartment from a home. A little noisy from upstairs, but clean, spacious, and better then staying in hotel. Owner is nice and responsive, we will return.
My elderly mother and husband and I stayed here five nights. We had the following surprises: These are only facts for the benefit of future guests, not criticisms.
1. There is only one toilet, one sink, one tub/shower yet the listing says it has one and a half baths which means two toilets and two sinks besides a tub/shower. I told the owner but she was not willing to change this.
2. The coffee maker was full of old coffee grounds that were green with mold. The house had cobwebs on lamps, dirt on the floor and the throw rugs had not been laundered.
3. There is a tall straight flight of stairs (16 I think) to get to the entrance which is under the main house, below ground level. Otherwise, we had to walk through the backyard and down an outdoor stairway of 8 stairs plus a long stairway from the back entrance down to the living quarters.
4. There were two less than half full rolls of toilet paper provided. This was not enough for two women and one man for 5 nights. The owner said she only provides a three day supply for tenants. No Kleenex.
5. The windows in the bedrooms are hard to open and require climbing a ladder to reach them in one bedroom. No screens.
6. There is no air conditioning or heating. We needed both with the volatile weather the way it was. Owner offered to come start the heater.
7. We heard the conversations of the family above us and every step they took around the house. This disturbed our sleep.
8. Take your own soap. The soap provided in the kitchen and bathroom are bars of community soap that have been used by previous guests many times. We prefer fresh soap or liquid soap dispensers. Also, the laundry soap supply was less than a half cup.
9. What you see from the street of this lovely neighborhood is not what you get in the basement of this three story house.
10. There is nothing "Hawaiian" about the decor like its name.
11. There is no microwave.
We won't return.
P.S. We were very lucky to get any place to stay at all while the total eclipse was happening nearby. Our first VRBO booking was dropped at the last minute and this house was the only one available in our budget. With some attention to guest comfort and some more honest descriptions, it would be much better but we were unprepared for the unprepared.
Apparently these guests were not prepared to travel to Eugene, Oregon from Nebraska!
When I requested a review from these guests I expected a better one than this! I thought they were pleased with their stay with us! So it turns out that they were only pretending and now are exactly the kind of people that no one would ever want to host! I guess they were mad about losing the Ducks game to us?
After all our communication about the stairs, the window screens, the heater etc., and there are liquid soap dispensers! The throw rugs had been washed....try using the broom!
For future hosts these guests were unappreciative and left the place a mess...garbage not taken out, kitchen floor dirty...counter tops and bathroom fixtures all dirty! No effort put forth at all! The place needs guests who care...
This Hawaiian retreat is just as it is portrayed in the photos and the listing details. For example, there is NO MICROWAVE...please note. Also we do not need AC here and explained that the windows should be kept closed in all the rooms to maintain an even temperature when the outside temperatures range from 54 to 97 degrees.
I received multiple phone calls regarding issues from temperature being too hot then too cold, windows were wide open instead of kept closed to keep cool inside of a stucco house. They were even partying with the upstairs guests and then we hear that they were too loud? Even in a hotel you hear the people around you!
These guests were very needy and unable to cope with a place that was in perfect order when they arrived!
Apparently their budget did not allow for them to purchase any toilet paper?
We had to put back the front yard furniture back on the patio.
They forgot to leave the house keys for us.
It is just too bad when hosts have to put up with constant badgering and hostility from their would be guests and then receive this kind of criticism. They have no concept of what we are providing for them....
Thankfully, there are still guests who appreciate the opportunity to stay in hosts properties and recognize what they have to offer instead of being demanding and requiring all kinds of unexpected extra effort to put the place back in order for the next guests. When travelers reach a new destination we can only hope they are more flexible.
Some people apparently do not do unto others as they do unto you! I guess they get more pleasure out of being a nuisance instead of complimentary!
Thank you for your stay,
It was a little dated
The location was great as was the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the upstairs renters were a little loud and the rooms were a little uncomfortable. The kitchen lacked basic bowls.
It met the basic needs of my team.
Sorry about the team upstairs...remember I asked you to let me know if there was any noise though? Also I asked you to let me know if you needed anything to give me a call. The bowls were in the dining hutch?
What was uncomfortable about the rooms?
Great time staying at this home. Fit our small group perfectly
We enjoyed staying in this home. It was conveniently close to campus and places to eat. We could walk to everywhere we went. Would stay here again if given the opportunity and if its available. Cynde was a great host.
Absolutely amazing property!
My wife and I recently attended the USA Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene. We were looking for something near Hayward Field because we new parking was going to be at a premium, and it was. The Campus Hawaiian Retreat was exactly what we were looking for in terms of comfort, proximity to Hayward Field, spacious accommodations and a well stocked kitchen area. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We had all the privacy we needed and the views of the neighborhood were breath-taking! University Street and the Campus Hawaiian Retreat are situated in a great neighborhood! Everything was very close to us, eating establishments, great neighborhoods to run through, grocery stores, mall very close and I could literally just run to river. We stayed for a total of 10 days which just went by very fast. We are totally sold on Eugene and its environment. Cyndi was very helping in setting us up in the beginning and informed us to just call her if we needed anything. We appreciated Cyndi tremendously. We had our own parking in the back so we did not have to worry about parking in front of the house. We had a great time in Eugene, thank you Cyndi!!
Awful not a vacation rental more like a prison
Empty old home smells like mold and doesn't even have curtains. The beds are worse then prison beds and smells like they have been there for twenty years. had to leave hours after checking in
This person is very sad and has emotional and psychological problems...maybe too many drugs are his excuse? Anyway he made up lies about the space which you can clearly see in our reviews from before and after his stay are untrue! Please do not ever come back as we are a little nervous about you and your group in our town!
Eugene is home to many fabulous events. We have the Hult Center hosting the Eugene Symphony which rivals the San Francisco Symphony in quality and excellence without the traffic and congestion of a large urban environment. We have Hayward Field one block to the north and the University of Oregon at our doorstep! We have many small pocket parks within a miles walk in all directions with floral displays beyond your wildest imagination!
