A good base to explore the Isle of Bute from
There are 50 + steps up to the third floor tenement flat but no problem if you are mobile & the depth of each step is shallow. The stairs are also very wide. The flat itself has been modernised.. The heating system is excellent, the shower pressure is strong & it is a good shower. There is restricted head room in the kitchen & bathroom towards the eaves but I am over 6 ft tall & coped with it fine. There is a gas cooker & oven, a kettle & toaster but no microwave. full crockery. There is a double bed and a camp bed in the lounge. There is a TV but it only plays DVDs there is no reception on it. We thoroughly enjoyed our week on the Isle & found this appartment comfortable as a base.
Port Banatyne and the Isle of Bute are awesome!
The small flat at Port Bannatyne was pretty much as pictured. The kitchen is very small and my husband hit his head quite a few times on the sloped ceiling while trying to work in there, but I had no problems. I love the overall look of the place. It has a quirky 1940s to 1950s look. It IS on the 3rd floor of the building, so if you have problems with stairs, it may not be for you. I think the mattress may need replaced. It seemed a bit tired. The water pressure was great and it has a good hot shower. The view from the living area is fantastic and constantly captures your attention. You kind of have an eagle eye look on the world of Port Bannatyne. I really appreciated the extras waiting for us at check-in....fresh fruit, whiskey, wine and some things left by others. The fish and chips at the Port Inn just a short walk from the apartment are fantastic. It is also a great place for a glass of your favorite beverage and a place to meet the locals. Every Thursday evening, they have a jam session of local musicians that is fun. The small café that is next to the Port Inn is also the post office. It has great coffee and breakfast and lunch. They also stock a few groceries like milk, bread, etc. We did most of our shopping in Rothesay, which is very close. There's a great butcher shop, fresh fish shop and the Co-op grocery store. Harry Haws in Rothesay has the BEST lamb shank dinner I've ever had. We had a rental car, but from what we observed, there is a very good bus system and I think you could get everywhere on the island by bus. While there, we enjoyed the Bute Fest, Bute Highland Games and toured most of the gardens and of course Mount Stuart (a must see). We were there for several months and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. We never met Sam, but he was very responsive to our inquiries and the booking process was easy. Anne, the house cleaner came in with some clean linens and also cleaned the apartment thoroughly in the middle of our stay. She was very friendly and did an excellent job. The WiFi worked great. If we're ever back this way, we will definitely be looking at this place again. Thank you Sam!
Het was een fijn appartement. Groot genoeg voor 2 personen.
Het was niet super schoon.
