Welcome to our little oasis! Our very first guests named it "Casa del Soul" and we loved it, so we kept it! Once you are in "our home," you don't have a choice but to relax, grab a drink, open the sliding glass doors and enjoy one of the prettiest views on Long Island Sound. Listen to the lapping waves, smell the salt air and get ready to take off your shoes and, with drink in hand, run your toes through our sandy yard or on the beach!
If you're looking for a relaxing place that can also serve as home base for great day - trips (NYC - 1 hr 40 mins by train, Yale University - 18 min. drive, Boston - 2.5 hr drive, Mohigan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos - 60/75 mins, Mystic - 70 mins), this is it. You can even catch the Long Island Ferry in Bridgeport, CT (15 mins. away) and drive to the Hamptons and back, all in a day!
Milford, CT is a charming little New England Town, with a lot of history, great restaurants (two within walking distance), shopping and movie theater. It's also home to Silver Sands State Park and CT Audubon Society. And you have plenty of other great restaurants, shopping, movie theaters, bowling, and parks all within 30 mins. In fact, for the little ones (or if you're just a kid at heart), the Pez Factory (only 10 mins away) and the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, Ct (46 mins away) are two must stops. Also, be sure and visit historic New Haven, CT, which is home for Yale University, the Knights of Columbus Headquarters/Museum, the Peabody Museum, the Shubert Theater, and other great attractions, including free summer concerts on the Green. Oh yea, Hartford is only 40 mins away and it is home to the must see Connecticut Science Center!
If all you are looking for is a place to park your car and stay put, our home is going to be hard to beat as well! Want to nap in the shade or just read a good book, and listen to the waves, this is the place. Want to watch the kids play in the water and/or join them, great beach and water access right out our back door! Hey, how about fishing or a little kayaking? Got that too! We have a covered outdoor living space (with ceiling fans/lights) for relaxing and/or bar-b-q any time of day or night and in any weather conditions!
So, what are you waiting for? This is the place for you to have one of the most memorable vacations you will ever have! We look forward to sharing our home with you and yours!
My wife and I have been happily married for almost 40 years. We grew up in Texas and moved our family (three daughters) up to CT 26 years ago. We are both recently retired, which allows us more time to spend with our five grandchildren and do a bit of travelling. I worked in management for a Fortune 100 Company in Manhattan for 36 years and my wife was the Assistant Practice Administrator for a local medical practice for 17 years, We have many great memories in this home, particularly with our grandkids and it has been our primary residence since 2001. My wife and I both grew up in El Paso, TX, so we pinch ourselves and jokingly ask, "How did two desert rats end up living on the water?" We absolutely love our home and we promise, "You will too!"
Max purchased this house in 2001
At the time we purchased this home, I was travelling significantly for work and it seemed that every time I was home, it was like a vacation. So, we decided to look for a "vacation home" on the water. We lived in Fairfield, CT, for 10 yrs prior to moving in Milford, CT. We first rented a small cottage on the water and got hooked on living on the water. My wife had been following this home in the local paper for months, because it had been on the market for a while. Then, when we finally decided to attend an Open House, my wife absolutely fell in love with the home. In fact, when the realtor wasn't looking, my wife mouthed to me "You have to buy me this house!" Being the good husband who is madly in love with his wife, we made an offer and it has been ours ever since.
The master bedroom, which extends the length of the house, is unbelievable. It really should be two separate rooms, but we're sure not going to change it!
The views from the living room, kitchen and all but one of the bedrooms, are to die for! Our backyard consists of a boardwalk, rock gardens, fire pit, a sandy yard (which our family and friends love) and an outdoor covered living space. We have comfortable seating for both decks and the outdoor living space. Then, to top it off, we have enough parking space for 5 cars (one spot in the garage, the rest in the driveway)! You can also park along the street across the street without restriction! Oh yea, I have a little boat that is available for your use if you take good care of it; I've caught many good size fish no more that 150 - 200 yards away! (That's where I took the picture of our home that catches your interest!)
The house was amazing. Everything you could want. We spent a wonderful week here, relaxing in the house and bring active in the sea. Our three children loved it - and so did we!
Over the last decade our family has rented beach houses in Deleware. This is our first venture to the Conneticut side of the sound. This home was very beautiful, especially accomodating, richly furnished and beautifully accented. The best feature we feel is, in just a matter of a few steps you can go from patio, to sand, to beach. No packing up the beach wagon, or long walks to the water, everything was right out the front door. If this house is available in the future our family would make this a priority rental again, and highly recommend to any large family.
This was just a perfect vacation spot! The house had every amenity I could wish for, with a spacious open kitchen, opening into the general living area, so family and guests could spread out and relax, while still being a part of the general activity. The bedrooms were beautifully appointed, and nicely decorated, and comfortable as well!! The master bedroom opens up to a stunning view of the Sound, with gorgeous sunrises to start the day. One of my favorite spots is the deck, where we had breakfast and watched the colors move across the sky. Downstairs, Max and Jennifer have made another gathering area under the deck, with patio furniture, plenty of chairs available for guests and a gas grill. This space below the deck was a great area, just steps away from the water, where one could move in and out of the sun and still enjoy being on the beach.
This home is immaculate and the owners are incredibly easy to work with and have gone to great pains to make the home comfortable, beautiful, a true vacation for anyone who stays there. There was a lovely welcome package for us when we arrived, including a bottle of wine. The views of the Sound are unparalleled and you can sit on the deck or on the furnishings below deck or by the fire pit and enjoy them. The house is so well kept that the sand was raked on the property. We loved every minute of it, including the comfy beds. We cannot recommend this home or these owners more highly.
What a terrific house, perfect for our women's weekend.
For those who don't know Milford, it is a good sized shore community with a good number of nice restaurants, a pretty town green and stores of all stripes. Accessible by Metro North or an easy drive from Manhattan.
The house is a nice neighborhood--you can take some lovely walks to enjoy the real estate and glimpses of beach living. The house itself has a terrific open first floor plan of kitchen, dining room and living space just perfect for relaxing or entertaining--you can seat a big group together or smaller groups sitting more quietly. But the view. The fabulous view of the water essentially lapping at the house's edge is truly amazing. You can smell the ocean, hear the waves and gaze for hours. Unfortunately it rained the entire weekend we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the fire pit or the nice outdoor furniture but we did manage to get a meal made on the grill and to gaze at that ocean from inside. There are four bedrooms--two with spectacular views of the water (including the master suite upstairs which is great) and two that face the side of the house decorated for children but easily able to fit some happy adults. The bathrooms in the house are hotel quality. Sheets and towels were very nice and the kitchen is stocked GREAT.
Finally, the small touches--how nice the owner was to speak/email with--the bottle of wine and gift card to the restaurant down the block (delicious!) really made this stay for us.
Bring your family for a beach weekend, bring your friends to catch up, bring your partner for some romance. Everyone will love this house!
I am so glad we stayed in Max and Jennifer's lovely home. We had several family members traveling from California for my daughter's college graduation. This home was the perfect choice for a family reunion. We enjoyed the amazing views overlooking the Long Island Sound while sitting around the outdoor fire pit. The house had everything we needed to create beautiful memories for all. The homeowners were very thoughtful. The home was very clean and beautifully decorated. I highly recommend this property!
A number of the items listed are accessible within 15 mins of our home. (The zoo may be 20-25 mins. away) We live on the water, but don't have all of the toys that are checked off (i.e. jet skis, wind surfing, fly fishing equip, etc). Feel free to ask about specific items you want available and I'll be happy to let you know if we have them or where you can get them for your stay. We have 2 kayaks, 6-8 boogie boards and lots of beach toys for the kiddos.
