When my wife Blanca and I bought this property back in 1992 there was only a couple small homes in area. We currently live in southern California with our kids and spend most of our vacation time right at La Punta.

MATT HARTY purchased this house in 1992

Why MATT HARTY chose Brisas de Zicatela

We decided to buy in this area because it is surrounded by such beauty and it is so close to the Point and surfing. My wife's uncle sold us this lot on the beach, it was kind of like a sand dune back then. We spent the next ten years completing the construction. My wife Blanca and I along with our three kids have enjoyed this hidden treasure for many years. Now when we get together with the whole Familia here for the holidays, its quite a party!

What makes this house unique

Hanging out at here with rich architectural features everywhere you turn, you really get a feel of ease a while your lounging around on a hammock. Steps away from the water and great surf.

Life at the point is different than anywhere else in the world, you just have to see it for yourself.

The point

the point or la punta refers to the southernmost section of playa zicatela and the point of land at the southern end of the beach. Although the northern end of playa zicatela is more developed and more popular with tourists, the point beach area is favored by surfers. The point beach area features a staffed lifeguard tower and a few palapa restaurants. The rocky outcrop, also referred to as the point features a lighthouse and a number of homes spread across a wide area.

The point is another of the escondido myths. Vastly underrated, at size the point can produce an incredibly long, fast and challenging ride. A left, the point is usually a fun, small wave, and when its a few feet overhead or smaller is great for those who aren't in the mood to put it all on the line. When the point is small it breaks from an inside section to a beach break that is occasionally makeable. When the outside sections of the point begin to break you should give it a try. If the waves are not breaking too close to the rocks it can hold up at sizes greater than double overhead, and though hollow, it is still a hotdog wave. I would not recommend getting caught inside, however.

The “mexican pipeline” is located 2 miles up the beach from “the point” at playa zicatela.

Playa zicatela is the long stretch of beach located on the east side of puerto escondido. It is the main surfing area for puerto escondido, attracting surfers from all over the world, and is the site of annual surfing competitions in august and November. The principal surfing season runs april through november when ground swells in the 6-15 foot (2-5 meter) range break into hollow tubes. For expert surfers only. Not for swimmers.
