About Mike Kirk

Family of 3 including 13 year old who loves to swim, fish, hike, boat and sit in the hot tub (and now water ski)

Mike Kirk purchased this house in 2005

Why Mike Kirk chose Lakes Region

We love the lake in New Hampshire. Great weather, warm weather and lots of outdoor activities. We wanted our son to experience the outdoors. Suncook Lake is much quieter than Lake Winnipesaukee but has all the benefits without the crowds.

What makes this house unique

The lake! Swimming, watersking, kayaking, fishing and playing on the beach. The property also has acres of grass for soccer, baseball etc...

The size of the property ensures privacy for guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful! As advertised. Private, lots of space to run our dogs and for the kids to play.

Beautiful spot, quiet peaceful lake, perfect lake vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week with the two old dogs and all the adult kids coming and going throughout the week. The house was comfy, the spot was perfect, the dock, hammock, hot tub, fire pit, porch and grill combined to make it a heavenly summer vacation! The smells and sounds and sights could not be beat!

Lacking basic comforts. Nice views. Drafty. Wasted space. Lawn funiture in living area.

  • 2 of 5

Home Away suggests being at Home while Away. My home does not have musty lawn furniture in the living area. This property lacked many basic comforts of home. The living area had a beat up chair that looked like it was rescued on a dump run and it has no place to put your feet up unless you use a kitchen chair. The other chair is a musty wicker chaise lounge that beats your elbows and has a hard wooden support halfway underneath you.

I must say the king bed was very comfortable and listening to the loons at night is very relaxing. However the rest of the living area was uncomfortable.

The home was creaky which we can deal with but it had many gaps to the outside like around the front door where you could see daylight through the door frame when it was closed.

The bathroom needs to be totally redone. The spigot for the bathroom sink sprays a dozen or so micro streams of water that will spray everywhere when you use it. You must get in the shower to turn it on. The toilet is about to wobble off or fall through the floor.

The kitchen has only 1 pan for cooking, tough if you are cooking inside for a family. Tiny ants on the kitchen counters.

We found the lighting poor with many exposed glaring bulbs.

The fire pit is amazing. A nice large ring with comfy Adirondack chairs with pea stone surrounding the pit. More than enough wood was there when we visited.

The hot tub was also amazing. It sits just off the porch and if you have a cold rainy day like we did, this tub will warm you up at 104 degrees and amazing views.

The dock is also nice and big and will support a boat.

The fishing is also very good.

There is the Suncook Recreation Area not too far across the lake and the noise from the kids can carry fyi.

The property is large with a huge front lawn that is a hill and well maintained. If you consider the lawn, fire pit home and dock I bet it's one of the larger properties around the lake.

The WiFi is unprotected.

To sum up Cape on the Lake, this property has HUGE potential. It needs some very basic upgrades inside the home like comfy chairs that don't look like they were picked up at a yard sale. The T.V. was also nice and big. There is also no a/c and I bet on a hot night those bedrooms could be pretty uncomfortable.

Views are amazing complimented with the sounds of loons.

All in all we were a bit disappointed with this Home Away. It should have had some more basic things that make it feel like a HOME. Would not recommend for a family.

Owner's Response: We are disappointed and sorry to hear the you did not enjoy your stay. After years of renting we've always prided ourselves on providing a clean and comfortable home. I can assure future renters that none of the furniture was rescued from the town dump, but we will evaluate the furniture too make sure that there is comfortable seating for all, including places to stretch out your feet! The faucet and the credit card size crack around the front door will fixed. We have family across the street ready to address any issues, so if anything occurs, like the toilet becoming loose, we can address right away. We're glad that your found the rest of the property and the bedrooms to your liking. As you point out it is one of the biggest and most private properties on the lake! We did inventory the pots and pans and there seemed to be enough for a family reunion. We will post pictures of all changes on the site so future renters can be assured. Thank you for your comments, good and bad. We've rented the cabin for the last 10 years and have always been thrilled that so many families enjoyed our home (based on the 20+ 5 star reviews) as much as we do. Thanks again, Mike and Shannon

Great location, great amenities.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful views, lots of space, comfortable setting. General store about 5 minutes away in case you forget something, but there's a pretty good chance Mike will already have it there for you!

The only bummer was that it had rained for a while before we arrived, so the basketball court was flooded. The firewood dried out by the next day (provided for you, enough for an entire week of nightly bonfires) so that was great. The hot tub was the icing on the cake! Would definitely rent again.

Serene, private, and truly beautiful. Wonderful amenities, all impeccably maintained--screened in porch, dock, outdoor seating/dining areas, fire pit with wood, hot tub, plenty of open space and fresh air! This home was everything we hoped for in a weekend getaway, and we can't wait to go back!
