It's ok...nothing to write home about!

  • 2 of 5

I had never been to the area before. When we saw this cabin the dated interior didn't turn me off. After staying, I would probably check out another cabin. First of all we arrived late and there was no number markings identifying where the property was (had to get out of the car and walk to find it) nor was there a light on the porch, had to fumble to get the key in the door and try to find the lights. It needed to be freshened up the morning of our arrival and aired out. It is made of cedar, which is beautiful and "homey", but when we opened the door it took our breath away (not in a good way!) I went to cook dinner and the pans were dirty. Spiders and webs at the baseboard heater in the bathroom. There is dry rot or mold in the bathroom between the toilet and shower (some people become ill when they are around it). There is an electrical issue that should be looked into. Outside, while it is under the trees... the decking and banisters have not been cleaned or painted in a while. There were 2 axes on the side of the cabin (glad I didn't have small children with me) .The main corner posts near the Jacuzzi are rotting away, the banister is broken and coming apart. There isn't a place to put the cover for the Jacuzzi without leaning it in the direction of the breaking rail. The Jacuzzi cover is extremely heavy to remove to use (you cannot do this alone!).

A lot is expected from the renter when the renter leaves. It seems reasonable that the renter would expect that the property would be clean and in good condition when the renter arrives. I believe the owners need to spend time at this property or hire someone to do the necessary repairs. That and a recent visit from housekeeping would have made this a great place to stay and would ensure that their investment is well taken care of.

We would of rated higher if these things had been done...

Great Spot, Excellent Service

  • 4 of 5

We rented this cabin for four nights between Christmas and New Years. The cabin had that cabin feel right out of the 70's. The décor definitely has it's charm. The only reason I am giving it four stars is that the beds were not very comfortable. Those could and should be upgraded. Upon our arrival we were looking to jump straight into the hot tub (it was the deciding factor in choosing this specific cabin). I found it to be unlocked and when opening the lid noticed that it looked like a bear had climbed in for a soak the water was so dirty. I called Mt. Baker Lodging and Wendy took care of it immediately. She even went so far as to give a portion of our money back for the inconvenience. Overall our stay was excellent and Mt. Baker Lodging really went the extra mile to make it that way.

Beautiful way to spend the Christmas weekend

  • 4 of 5

It is a lovely dated Cabin (orange shag carpet) with comfortable furniture and nice beds. We spent the Christmas weekend there and one of the best features was being able to have our dogs with us! The only negative was the wood: there was a fireplace and logs but no kindling or matches. It's a place I would recommend staying!

Owner's Response: Hi Mick: Thank you for the great review for Cabin #66. Gramma's and Grandpa's Cabin is definitely retro! Having grown up in the 70's, I can totally relate! Burnt orange shag carpeting accompanied by burnt orange counter tops...WOW! Thank you for spending your Christmas with us, and many thanks for the neat and orderly way in which you left the cabin upon departure. Please remember that you are now enrolled in our Guest Loyalty Program, and entitled to receive a discount on future reservations during non-holiday/event periods, subject to a 2-night minimum stay, when reservations are secured by phone. Happy trails, Dan

you get what you see

  • 5 of 5

My review is not so much on the cabin, as my title says what you see is what you get, nothing fancy or spectacular but good enough, the cabin has great neighbors. My review is on the Mount Baker vacation rentals agent. These people are beyond helpful and professional. During our stay the first morning after we arrived a freak gust of wind blew and blew down a tree that landed on this cabin. In 20 minutes a very nice lady (wish I could remember her name) from the rental agency was there to help us into another cabin which at first I did not think it was a upgrade but after getting over the shock of tree falling on our roof, I realize it was. Not only did she assist us into the new place but gave us a 10% discount per night stay. I was very pleased with this but when I went to turn in our keys on sunday, I was informed they were refunding us for the first night. Thing is, this was not there fault that a tree fell, it was a healthy tree, so for them to do this is above and beyond.
