The centre of Céret is just 2 minutes away. It wasn't by chance that Picasso, Chagall, Soutine and Miro all lived and painted here. The light, the vues of the Roussillon plane and being just 25 Kms from the Mediterranean coast are just some of the reasons, along with the laid back way of life and wonderful climate. Céret has its own modern art museum where you can admire original works of art from all these artists.
On Saturday mornings the local market provides the perfect opportunity for people watching outside the famous 'Pablo' bar as well as for picking up local delicacies to eat and drink. Céret also has supermarkets, shops, a cinema, and numerous bars as well as doctors clinics, banks and a tourist information office. For the more active, Céret has a swimming pool and tennis courts and from the house you can walk the 'Traboucaïres', the routes smugglers used from Spain. Nearby at just 6kms, Le lac de St Jean is a lake with supervised swimming, waterskiing and tree climbing activities. Higher up the valley is the famous thermal spa village of Amélie-les-bains and golf 'St. Laurent de Cerdans. The extensive Mediterranean beaches of Argelès and the gorgeous walled port of Collioure are only 30 minutes away, the Spanish border is just 12 Kms. Again for art lovers, Figueras with it's Dali museum and Cadaques are both within easy reach. So too is Barcelona which is just 2 hours away.
