Was a reasonable stay
Overall the stay was okay.
The house was set up in a non-ideal manner. It has enough sleeping for 10-12 (assuming doubling up in all beds but bunk beds). But there are two floors which aren't easy to access. The living room upstairs with the kitchen wasn't big enough to really host 10 people at once. That being said, it wasn't a huge drawback.
The "sleeper sofa" was out of order and we were given no warning/notification. This would have been a huge issue had 1 more person come to stay with us because I chose this house based on the capacity to use that sofa. Fortunately my sister didn't fly down to meet us as originally planned.
The owners/managers themselves don't appear to value the guests stay, too much. Upon booking this, I asked for late checkout and received 0 response for close to two months. When we arrived, the house was clean and tidy, but pots/pans etc weren't organized. The kitchenware was miscellaneously scattered in all the cabinets. Most houses I've stayed at things are kept very cordial and organized. There wasn't anything to clean our dishes with (sponge/brush). In my past experience a simple brush with a handle has always been sitting in the sink to allow guests to clean their dishes. Lastly, and primarily why I said they don't value their guests stay is because there weren't any trash bags. We went through the one in the trash can and had no other bags to use...
Also, the listing is completely out of date; this ties into the sofa concern. They have wifi, and the listing says they don't. The listing had no information on how to get in the house - checkin information was "Checkin is any time past 4." That's entirely unhelpful.
All of this (not updating the listing, not stocking the house, etc.) lends me to believe the owners/manger doesn't seem value and care about the guests stay and they're doing minimal work to sell out their property. I book a HomeAway or rental because i'd like to use a house as a house. Not have to stock the house i'm staying in.
All of that being said, once I finally got in touch with the property owner they graciously allowed me to have late checkout. I was competing in the Ironman competition and finished at 1:30, so having late checkout allowed me to rinse off before traveling home. This was a huge positive!
As I said, the overall stay was reasonable, but not great if i'm honest. Having late checkout was of huge value, but doesn't override the other many little things that we encountered
We stayed three days in March with eight kids and six adults. It was great, but needed a couple of things fixed. One hide a bed was broken which made it one queen bed short. The shower downstairs is small, and the one upstairs is super short. This was our first time with home away so we didn't know what we would need and needed garbage bags and toilet paper. This place had lots of things to cook with. We really enjoyed our stay. The yard is fenced and was great to let the kids play.
Charming House with Good Amenities and Location
Great location, very close to the beach and the Mardi Gras parade route. House was nice, however not well described. Owner is close by and willing to help. Spiral staircase in corner is fun, yet dangerous. Much easier to access lower level with outdoor entrances. I really have a hard time seeing this place sleep 15, but I'm sure it can be done. Will be much nicer when pull-out bed downstairs is fixed.
We had a great experience. The house is in a perfect location and we all had a great time. The downstairs did have an odd smell and there was also tons of rat poop all over the bedrooms, we even found some on the kitchen table. Other then that we loved it, there were plenty of beds to sleep all of us and we were all very comfortable.
The house was charming and convenient to restaurants and beach
One remote was missing a battery. Other than that, it was perfect!
Great house to fit a lot of people. Rooms had plenty of space. The AC is uneven in all the rooms and living room but It worked out just fine! The downstairs couch should probably get replaced as the bed of it is kinda falling apart. Other than that all my friends and family would stay here again! It was great!
This property is centrally located to many of Galveston's premier activities, like the Pleasure Pier, the beach, Duck Tour, Historical Tours, shopping, and many restaurants and bars. There are also several bike, skate, and surf rentals within a block from the house. In addition, this is a good location to parade routes during Mardi Gras!
