Porto Cervo is a fraction of the municipality of Arzachena, in the province of Olbia-Tempio in the north-eastern Sardinia, historical and geographical region known as Gallura.

It is the main center of the Costa Smeralda and has a resident population of less than 200 inhabitants.

Famous resort is built around the deep natural harbor, whose shape resembles that of a deer and the headlands overlooking the sea, the curve of the harbor and villas scattered, surrounded by greenery. The center is built on a mezzanine floor over the harbor, with its famous square, shops, boutiques, while all around restaurants, hotels, nightclubs and villas climbing up

the surrounding hills. The Porto Vecchio dates back to the sixties, when Prince Karim Aga Khan

IV, fascinated by the beauty of this stretch of coast, decided to buy the poor lands

this corner of Gallura, and together with the greatest architects of the time, among them Luigi Vietti, to give life to the paradise of the international elite tourism we know today. In 1967 it was founded the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. In the eighties began work on the construction of new port, much more spacious and equipped.

Great location, disappointing rental - BYO Everything

The apartment has wonderful views of the sea and access to a (stone) beach in front of the property and a lovely bay behind the property. The communal garden is great for kids. The swimming pool is large but dated. It’s suitable only for competent swimmers as it is deep. The attached shallow paddling pool is tiny and really only suitable for babies and toddlers.

The apartment is unmodernised, in need of updating. It is basic and clean but has old furniture, no proper sun loungers and no mod cons to speak of. The beds, bed linens, and pillows are too basic for this type of rental. The apartment has no air con or ceiling fans. We were given two floor fans and requested two more.

Proper toiletries are not provided; even basic Airbnb rentals usually provide proper shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toilet paper. The minimal soap that was provided here was leftover from a closed down-70's motel. We managed to negotiate a few extra rolls of toilet paper from the agency, but they mentioned a one-roll-per-bathroom-per-rental policy (there are two bathrooms and therefore two rolls of toilet paper; we had three adults and two children staying in the apartment for over a week). They apparently apply a similar policy to the shampoo and conditioner, providing a few ‘one night stay’ sized motel bottles.

Despite a lecture about the importance of correctly disposing of different refuse, no rubbish bags were provided, no kitchen paper or dishwasher soap etc. Frustratingly I spent my first morning on 'holiday' buying basic cleaning products. The agency doesn’t stock €20 worth of basic supplies for people paying thousands of euro a week in rent.

There is no wifi, no connection to a modern/digital radio and not even a kettle to boil water in (you must use a pot). Poor mobile phone coverage makes the lack of wifi particularly frustrating.

This is fine when renting a camping cabin, for this level and price of rental and venue, I expect more.

There was a serious and dangerous electrical problem in the kitchen of the apartment, which caused significant electrical shocks to anyone using the dishwasher, sink, and stove. We alerted the agency and they arranged for electricians to attend and repair the same. We were told to keep the children out of the kitchen during this time.

Anna from the agency was very helpful. Comparable properties within and close to this same complex are far better equipped and available at more competitive rates.

Owner's Response: Dear client, everything you wrote is absolutely true. Despite that we would like to remember you that the typical sardinian kitchen and also the absence of the air conditioninig, promptly replaced with 4 fans as you wrote, are all characteristics shown in the contract and throught the photos of the announce on HomeAway and in the description too: no mation of air conditioning. The photos in the announce are representing the real state of the house and you chosen it through those. About the toiletries we provide every guest with 2 hand soaps and 2 little bottle of shampoo, one toilette paper roll for every bathroom and one bottle of water in the frigde; a surplus to our actual work. Just the essential things because we aren't an hotel or a b&b, we just provide houses. Despite of that we provided you milk, nescafé, sugar and biscuits with no refound. We weren't obligated to do it we just done it because you have two little beautiful children and because if we can help our guests it's a pleasure for us, just like the posticipated check out made at 13.30 for helping you because you had a late flight. About the electrical problem we're really sorry for that, but was promptly repaired and in regard of the phone coverage we can do nothing of course.
