About Brenda K. Ellison

Hello, my name is Brenda and my husband’s name is Mike. Welcome to Peaceful Properties--Your choice for a green and serene stay. My husband and I are retired Army officers serving for 24 and 30 years respectively. We both love this area and plan to make it our permanent home in the near future. There is no other place in the area that has the benefits of viewing both mountain ranges; the Massanutten on the west and the Shenandoah on the east with the South Fork of the beautiful and peaceful Shenandoah River running between these green mountains. An awesome sight when you see eagles or osprey flying high, deer and turkeys running through the woods, and an occasional bear to remind you that you are in Page County and the Luray area. We hope you enjoy your stay at Peaceful Properties. It is a magnificently beautiful area especially on a clear night with the stars you cannot see nearer the cities.

the Name says it all, Peaceful River

  • 5 of 5

We have always enjoyed coming to Shenandoah Valley and especially the south fork of Shenandoah River. This property was clean and the home well laid out for family members . The yard was large enough to have privacy from neighbors and ample room for grand kids to play. Canoes and kayaks available to explore and fish the river. We didn't have the best luck fishing , but our yellow lab enjoyed countless hours swimming and playing in the river! The fire pit added a nice touch to the evening social hour . Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful river retreat !!

Peaceful River is a Well Named Property

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect name for this property. When driving down River Road, the relief from the pressures of day to day life is palpable. The location is great and regardless of how you want to spend your time, it's available. You can hit the vineyards, shop in the antique stores or get lost in the mountains.

The Shenandoah River is itself a top quality smallmouth bass river but there are also prime trout streams within an easy drive. You can play billy goat for the Brookies in the Shenandoah National Park/Forest or take on the "technical" limestone spring creek fishing on Mossy Creek.

I don't know if the upstream access on Richview Road is new but it is the perfect distance for an evening float, whether fishing or tubing. It takes about an hour and a half, longer if you fish it seriously. This is a great perk of the property.

We had a couple of questions for Brenda during our stay and both her response and that of her service folks were exemplary. Any time we vacation in the region, we will do ou0r best to stay here or at one of their other local properties.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review of your stay at Peaceful River. It didn't take long to name this property as it is truly peaceful. Thank you for the travel hints for future guests. Page County is so rich with beauty and heritage. We are now Page County residents and every day I feel like I'm on vacation. Thanks for being such great return guest. I certainly hope you can make this an annual tradition. Peaceful Properties...Green...Serene.

Beautiful

Fantastic host and house. Went out of their way to give us information and give us rides for kayaking etc. Beautiful scenery and river. Close to trail heads. Try Jeremy's run trail that connects to Knob mountain. Gorgeous.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your review and very, very helpful hint on Jeremy's Trail Run. I think I'll plan to do that one myself. Here is the link if anyone is reading this and is interested: http://www.hikingupward.com/SNP/JeremysRun/ We were very glad you took us up on the drop off. It's so much easier than trying to drive somewhere and spend your vacation trying to figure out the South Fork (Shenandoah River-south fork). We hope you can return to once again enjoy the area. Thank you, Green...Serene.

Just Excellent

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year staying here with our kids. Just an excellent property that is well maintained in a great location. The owners really take pride in all of the details and upkeep. You really won't find a better place right on the river, 15 minutes from Luray, with all the amenities with peace and quiet.

Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Thanks again for choosing to stay at Peaceful River. I appreciate your comments. We just trimmed the bushes which have grown with the help of rain and mild winter. The piles of garden which block the river and the limb pile are gone. We even took down the C-Band satellite dish which we inherited from the previous and original owner in 2000. I think it was time to say good-bye. I say this so others reading know that we continue to work on this property despite the beautiful home and yard. You know it's never done. Maintenance takes a lot of time after improvements are put in place. I am thrilled your family enjoyed the home and property. Please tell your friends and family but put in your reservation first! Thanks for being a return great guest! Peaceful River is Green...Serene.

CLEAN Perfectly Kept Unbelievably Beautiful Luxurious Relaxing Quiet Getaway PLUS river & mountains!

  • 5 of 5

I brought my parents, their 2 Westies, and a friend here for a week. Our plans revolved largely around either fishing or "down time"...for catching up, playing cards, and doing things together. Mom also had big food plans, my friend had fitness focused goals, and Dad and I shared the joy of finally having a week of our lives without work, so we were super focused on the little things/handy helping physical accomodations/relaxation factors. To be truthful, we are a nitpicky group. We just notice and appreciate all of the "little extra" things others may not notice... and not one of us was disappointed in any form or fashion by this place! The level of attention to detail, cleanliness, thoughtfulness, and just the warmth you can see and feel in this home away from home is the best I've found. The property is perfectly sized and layed out for privacy and quiet, as well as separation/privacy among groups/individuals staying there. Late night folks and/or smokers, we figured out, belong in the room downstairs, where TV/conversations can happen at all hours without disturbing upstairs residents, and the private exit door creates a non-offensive and easy escape outside for a smoker. (Don't smoke right there next to the gas tank, though.) Upstairs, the queen bedroom suited my parents perfectly. Right next to the gorgeous kitchen, private exit to the carpeted and screened in porch, a pristinely clean full bathroom across the hall, 2 closets and a dresser, etc. The other room next door was ideal for either 1 small sized adult or teen (little beds), or for children. The TVs, cable, internet/wifi & phone were all fast & reliable. The private river access, from the banks in the backyard as well as via the private gated boat dock just a few minutes up the road from the house, is priceless. We caught at least 12 fish just hanging out on the banks, & were able to squeeze in 2 last-minute trips down the river in the provided kayaks with provided life vests & paddles thanks to the dock! We'd hoped to take the canoe, but my truck wasn't long enough to haul it to the put-in spot, so the kayaks were the perfect easy option to have! The hot tub building is my new favorite place to be. You truly can watch the river go by & relax, privately & peacefully. Mom is still bragging about the kitchen, my friend RAVED about her yoga spot there & her runs around the neighborhood, and Dad & I relished in the ease & availability of technology & comforts. We'll definitely be back!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so very kindly for your first class review. I apologize for my delay in response as I was truly blown away by your words and deeds. You and your parents were awesome guests and I would love to have you return here or any of the other two Peaceful Properties homes. I can't tell you how much I enjoy offering these homes. Yes, they are a lot of work. We do this because we love the area and we hope others would also once they spend time in this beautiful Page County area. No other area is as green and serene because Rileyville is the land which is closest to both mountain ranges. My husband looked that up. He is a stickler for facts and he is correct. This location offers both views of the ranges. As you traverse the Shenandoah River, the view changes--one curve looking at the Shenandoahs, the next curve looking at the Massanuttens. I didn't realize but our guests can see the mountains on both sides. The amenities are bountiful in this home. If there are any suggestions from our guests, I act on them. However, I have yet to put up the hammock. I am thrilled you and your family had a wonderful time at Peaceful River. Your caption of the review is a marketing piece in and of itself. Guests are the best marketing. Thanks again for being wonderful guests and I am counting on you returning to enjoy this beautiful area again. For another experience, try Brown Bear Retreat. It has a wonderful view of the Massanutten Mountains framed in a huge picture window--another one of my husband's ideas. Thanks again! Green...Serene

Perfect place for peace and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 2 night stay. The owners are very nice and attentive. The views of the river and the mountains are spectacular. We like toys and there are 3 kayaks, a canoe and hot tub which kept us entertained. Brenda was full of helpful suggestions from restaurants to places to launch and take out the boats. We hope to return next year.
