Hello! I live in Seattle, WA! Mauna Lani is my happy place.... there is so much to explore on the Big Island. My children and grandchildren love it here and it is a great place to bring the family together or simply take couples time...!
Karen Quick purchased this condo in 2015
I have been vacationing in Hawaii for the last 25 years... my family has visited all of the islands and we chose Mauna Lani on the Big Island for a multitude of reasons! Firstly, There is SO much to do on the Big Island. Secondly, within the resort are some of the best beaches/snorkeling in all of the islands! Now that I have grandchildren I wanted to give them the opportunity for the experiences that my own children had growing up! In Mauna Lani you have choices - dinner at the hotels; dinner at the beach club; dinner at the shops.... drive over to the food court at Waikoloa (but not have to deal with the crowds and lack of beaches!) or..... bar-b-cue on the lanai.. it is your own personal piece of heaven!!
I choose Kulalani because of the great facilities (pools, workout area, hot tubs, lanai area)... I LOVE Mauna Lani! It offers the best of the islands....Kulalani Community: Just a short walk from our front door is a beautiful expansive pool complex. Inside the gate you will find the main pool, lap pool, two hot tubs, gym, and cabana. This facility is much like that of neighboring luxury hotels, but without the crowds. The main pool’s large organic shape provides for plenty of space. This pool, with attached children’s pool, hot tub, and its own bathroom facilities is perfect for family activity. Chaise lounges, tables, and grassy areas can be found all around its expanse. On the other side of the pool complex is the lap pool and gym. This area is meant for adults only, and provides a calm removed retreat. The gym is outfitted with high quality cardio, circuit training, and free weight equipment. Bathroom facilities are attached including lockers and showers. Behind the gym sits the second hot tub with a yoga platform. Between the main pool and the lap pool sits the Cabana. It is the centerpiece of the complex housing preparation, grilling, and covered dining; complete with sinks and refrigerator. Next to it is a huge lawn perfect for frisbee, or a game of catch.
This is definitely a five star condo that is updated, beautiful, and comfortable. It offers every amenity you could possibly need and then some. I always like to stay at a home that is as nice or nicer than my own, and this definitely fit the bill. You will not be disappointed!
Our Kulalani rental was a real treat. The condo was well-equiped, clean and quiet. We (especially me) enjoyed the quiet lap pool area and fitness centre in the complex. Beautiful lush grounds and thanks Karen for the bikes! Added bonus is the "private" Mauna Lani beach club. Last time we were at the beach club cove the snorkeling was excellent but this time not so good. Global warming and too many people with sunscreen in the water may be to blame for the coral decimation.
I have vacationed on different islands in Hawaii since 1969 (as a child, :)). Now, with a family of my own grown children, the Mauna Lani area, has become a perfect vacation spot for my family to celebrate special occasions. What I love about the area is that we can walk or bike (make sure your condo rental comes with at least 2 bikes) to any amenties. Make sure to walk 5 minutes down to the Fairmont Orchid beach to watch the beautiful sunsets.
I certainly recommend this condo and this area of Hawaii if you like a quiet but beautiful and relaxed vacation.
Kulalani Haven offers relaxing accommodations and convenient amenities in a peaceful, park-like setting. The two-story, townhome-style unit is immaculate inside, well equipped, comfortable and welcoming. We found it offers everything we need.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed two weeks in Kulalani. To completely unwind, we suggest a stay of at least that length. It proved to be restful, stimulating and productive.
In addition, we hosted two Hawaiian friends for a weekend. They flew over from Maui to visit us. Despite their lifetime of experience living in and traveling these islands, they could not believe how beautiful the entire Mauna Lani resort is, as well as our charming place in Kulalani.
Mauna Lani's private beach club and "Napua" open-air restaurant proved to be a highlight for us, offering everything you need, and just a short drive or bike ride from Kulalani Haven. We often stopped there for lunch en route to afternoons reading, chatting, and doing water activities at the private beach. We also loved to walk the paths that wind along the rugged coastline and beach areas of the resort.
Additional restaurant choices are nearby — at the village center (including excellent prepared foods for take-out from the grocery store), golf clubhouse, Mauna Lani hotel and Fairmont Orchid hotel. Beyond the resort, an array of options are just a 5-to-15 minute drive.
We took advantage of the evening "sunset sail" offered at the beach club, and found it a memorable experience. Mauna Lani's large catamaran can accommodate 50 guests but our trip had just 7 passengers plus a crew of 3 -- so we enjoyed plenty of elbow room and personal attention. The cruise includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, open bar, and expert commentary on the sea life all around you (we saw huge schools of fish and pods of 10-foot manta rays swimming alongside us, plus whales surfacing at a distance), all topped off by an extraordinary sunset.
Back at Kulalani, my wife made excellent use of the fitness center, along with the swimming pools and jacuzzis. These facilities are a 2-minute walk from Kulalani Haven. A fun practice putting green is also available.
Mauna Lani offers two spectacular 18-hole golf courses, which we look forward to playing on our next visit. (My wife was rehabbing from surgery.) Both layouts and their clubhouse are beautiful, with additional golf nearby.
All in all, we heartily recommend Kulalani Haven for your Big Island retreat.
The condo was very nice and comfortable and very clean. The beds were very comfortable. Everything was in good working order. The condo complex was very quite, despite it being high season. The shop and restaurants at the Mauna Lani center were very convenient. We were working so didn't get to the pool or workout center, but did find the beach club to be very nice with a protected cove for snorkeling.
I would suggest that you might make more of the access information available in advance so that people can print it out and have it with them. There is a sheet in the binder in the house that had most of the answers to our dilemmas in it, but we didn't find it until after we were in for the night. It explains where to park extra cars and gate access and all.
If you want to take a dip, the Kulalani/KaMilo recreation center is just a few steps from the house. It is free to our guests and includes a lap pool, childrens pool, free-form pool, hotub, greenbelt area, and a separate 1500 sq ft building houses the gym, with the latest exercise machines, with men and women's locker room, granite and tiled showers and sinks.
We also have a very clean, safe and quiet private Beach Club, with lounge chairs, restaurant It's gated and free for use to our guests. The beach has a safe swimming cove, perfect for snorkling with lifeguard and rental equipment.
Other area attractions include the Mauni Lani Bay hotel and the Fairmont Orchid Hotel. The 'Shops of Mauni Lani' has a gourmet market, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (only one on this Island), Tommy Bahamas restaurant, art galleries, gift shops and free entertainment.
Best of all, Mauna Lani Resorts offers the best 36 holes of golf on the island. Holes along the ocean are comparable to Pebble Beach. The manicured greens and fairways was home to the PGA Senior Skins game where the legends, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Lee Trevino vied for skins.
