We are situated on volcanic rock overlooking the Pacific Ocean. As you can imagine, the view is amazing. You can easily sit all day and watch the ocean and listen to the waves. In addition, our villa, itself, is an architectural delight. The style is "Moorish" influenced, designed by the renown Mexican architect, Salvador "Cachi" Perez.
Our villa has four bedrooms, each equipped with their own private bathroom and balcony. Each room faces the ocean.
Three bedrooms are located on the second floor. The fourth bedroom is the top floor. This bedroom and its bathroom have amazing brick, cupola (domed) ceilings.
The large, outdoor veranda with built in, tile jacuzzi, is perfect for relaxing, enjoying dinner and drinks while watching the beautiful sunsets.
Our large living and dining rooms are comfortable and spacious with direct access to the outdoor veranda.
The house is equipped with WI-FI and private parking in our two car garage.
We are located in La Penita de Jaltemba, Nayarit Mexico. We are only 40 miles north of Puerto Vallarta.
The beauty and tranquility of the villa will just enhance your Mexican experience.
Hello. My name is Erin.
My grandmother built the villa, Casa de los Amigos, in 1987 after falling in love with the beauty and culture of Mexico. For many years, she ran the villa as a B&B so others could enjoy the same beauty.
We have been blessed to keep this villa in our family and want to continue to share it with others. Enjoy!
Erin Stevens purchased this villa in 1987
Our villa is tranquil and serene. We are situated just above the shoreline with amazing views of the ocean and beach. You can relax all day and listen to the sound of the waves, watch the birds fly by and fishing boats stroll past.
The villa is an architectural delight. The style is "Moorish" influenced, designed by the renown Mexican architect, Salvador "Cachi" Perez.
You can spend all day here and feel completely at peace. You may not want to leave.
My husband and I, with two other couples, stayed here in December (2016) and had a wonderful time.
The house was perfect for us. There was plenty of living space with spacious bedrooms and balconies. I was amazed that each room really does have a beautiful ocean view. The beds were very comfortable. It was relaxing to sleep with the sound of the ocean’s waves just down below.
It was very tidy and clean. A housekeeper came regularly. The kitchen was equipped with all the necessary pots, pans, dishes and glassware, but since we were on vacation, we treated ourselves to eating out most of the time.
The property and surrounding area was also very pleasant. One side faces the ocean, so we spent a lot of time on the patio enjoying the view and sipping margaritas. The other side of the house has a cozy courtyard with a tropical garden. At the bottom of the property there is a gate, so we could easily go directly to the ocean and hang out on the volcanic rocks, fish or swim. The property compound, with a couple other houses, is very private, with the ocean on one side and a real jungle on the other.
One of the owners was staying in the guesthouse on the property. It was helpful to have him there because he provided assistance and kept the property locked and secure at the appropriate time. He was also a great resource. He booked a deep sea fishing expedition for us, which was a big success. We caught lots of dorado and the captain even filed them for us right on the boat.
La Penita is truly a Mexican beach town. We had excellent seafood and tacos, great ice cream and found the Thursday market to be most enjoyable.
I highly recommend this villa to anyone who wants a perfectly authentic Mexican vacation. We’ll be back!
Great reviews, lovely photos, spacious rooms, proximity to family, nearness of the ocean, the sound of waves, and an amazing view convinced us to rent this home. The property looks gorgeous, but much of what this house has cannot be seen in the photos.
Having previously lived in Mexico, we expected an immaculate house, but this one obviously has not been well tended for a long time. I told the owner we were traveling with our very young grandchild, and she cautioned about the many stairs, balconies, and pool, but she failed to mention that the house:
1. Has no screens. Mosquito netting over the beds is the only protection from critters--our first night a bat flew onto my bedroom balcony, knocked into my foot, and fell to the floor.
2. Has no netting or fan in the top floor bedroom.
3. Is infested with roaches (roach eggs between the sheets, roach poop on shower curtain, roaches flying).
4. Is infested with spiders (told upon arrival, told not to worry).
5. Is built above a cemetery with graves in full view on the beach directly below the house.
Our first day, we tried to use the jacuzzi. The jets shot filthy water into the pool--the filter definitely hadn't been cleaned or tested before our arrival. With a pool at home, my husband knew how to "shock" the water, and showed the owner's husband, Sal, what to do to avoid future problems.
In the living room our second night, a large--2inch--spider crawled over my daughter and under the couch. When we moved the couch, we found spider webs, spider eggs and just plain dirt. Under the beds, we found dust bunnies and dead bugs. The beautiful mosaic tile bathtubs are grimy and the grout is moldy.
The house has no housekeeper. I had asked the owner about the possibility of me hiring extra help during our stay and was told no one was available although we saw maids working at our neighbor's house. Sal tries to tidy up (he doesn't know how to properly clean a house) and takes out trash, but his presence was intrusive. He came into the home at all hours to empty trash and to reiterate house rules (the most important one being that soiled toilet paper must not be flushed but must be deposited in the wastebaskets). We chose this house for relaxation, but tranquility is not what we found. Given that Sal's apartment faces the front balcony and pool, real privacy is impossible. We rented what was advertised as a luxury villa anticipating five wonderful days, but that is not what we got.
Two friends, my wife and I came down to Mexico to relax and forget about the hustle of work and the fast pace of our lives at home. We were hoping to find a place where things moved to a slow rhythm. Well... Casa de los Amigos is just that. Every morning we woke to the rhythm of the waves gently dancing on rocks and beach below. The views were amazing and the sleepy fishing village was safe, quite and inviting. The host Sal was very helpful and friendly. He was full of helpful tips and even arranged for us to go fishing. It was everything we had hoped for and more. I hope to go back.
This was my second visit to Casa de los Amigos in two years and it felt like paradise all over. The villa is beautiful, clean, spacious and has spectacular views from atop the volcanic rock. It was, without a doubt, one of the nicest villas in La Penita.
We rented a van at the airport in Puerto Vallarta and drove about an hour to La Penita. Once we arrived and walked through the villa to see the ocean, RELAXATION set in. The sunsets are spectacular and great to enjoy from the veranda. My family always felt safe at the villa and everyone in town was friendly. The two sweetest dogs, Macho and Lola, always looked forward to the guests returning home and Mach loves to fetch rocks!
The walk into town is about 4-5 blocks and culturally interesting! There are great restaurants in town and outdoor markets in and around La Penita that occur on different days of the week. There is a beach behind Casa de los Amigos at the RV park that is even more beautiful and pristine, but don't forget the other beaches that are SPECTACULAR and within a 15 minute drive.
We were fortunate to find a local woman who cooked several authentic Mexican dishes for us at the villa which made our stay even more memorable.
My two sisters and I spent our annual "sisters' week" at Casa de los Amigos this year, and from the very first moment we knew we'd made a good decision. This villa is drop-dead gorgeous and if anything, even better than the photos reveal. The house was immaculately clean and well equipped, with a wonderful collection of Mexican folk art throughout, and the views are truly spectacular from every room. We were greeted warmly by Sal, who had placed lovely bunches of bougainvillea in the courtyard and house to welcome us. Sal lives in the casita on the property, so he was available to help us whenever a need arose or just to make sure all was well. He even took us on a walking tour of La Penita to show us where we'd find the best restaurants, markets, etc. The 3 homes on the promontory are gated, and we had no safety concerns moving around town, exploring beaches, etc. La Penita has a very nice open market on Thursdays in the Plaza, with crafts, foods, etc. Not to be missed! There are fine restaurants there and in Rincon, the next town, and grocery shops where you can buy most everything you'd need.
There is a beach right by the house, but Sal took us to another long, gorgeous and nearly deserted beach nearby on which you can walk for miles to a point in the distance. We returned there for a long walk the next day and loved it. One thing about the beaches in La Penita...there can be undertow. Sal often swims off the house beach, as do many locals, but for a quieter swim you can go to a nice beach in Rincon or Los Ayala, two beaches nearby.
We used VIP Taxi Vallarta (nice big Suburban with good driver) from PVR airport to La Penita and arranged for them to pick us up for the return trip. You can find them on the web, and they take Paypal. They included a 1 hour stop for us to buy groceries at the big Mega store on the way, and with our lists in hand we bought most of what we'd need for the week. We thought the price for the rides was very fair.
You need only look at the photos and imagine having cocktails on the patio or one of the larger terraces as you watch the sun go down to realize what a gem this is. We usually choose a different place in Mexico each year, but we've decided to return to Casa de los Amigos again next year. It is truly wonderful.
My Husband and I stayed at Casa De Los Amigos in November and had an AMAZING time! The Villa is absolutely stunning! Each and every room has a spectacular view of the ocean. We sat out on our balcony for hours everyday just watching the ocean. The nearby town has amazing restaurants, shops, and THE BEST ICE CREAM stores!! I look forward to going back for some relaxation and sun!
