The laundry room and the staff quarters are underneath the main part of the villa.
We celebrated my wife's birthday with friends at the Villa in late September. The experience was all we had hoped for. The manager Antonella is a genius at anticipating all the details that made our stay so comfortable. And housekeeper Ava and her husband were so helpful. Ava prepared a superb dinner for us to enjoy our last night at the villa. It all began with our gracious owner/host making certain our questions and concerns were addressed. We would return every year if it could work out.
This house was amazing in so many ways. First, it's an architectural treasure... Designed by the same man who designed the Florence train station, it is literally an important work of art. It is gorgeous, huge, and we enjoyed it immensely. The pictures actually don't do it justice. From the first minute we walked down the driveway to see the swimming pool on the rooftop, we were continually stunned by the views from almost every area of the house. The pool was refreshing, and we spent more than one day laying there sleeping and resting up while looking out over Florence.
Fiesole, where it's located, is a lovely, quaint town, and there was a lot to do there without ever even going into Florence. There were also a lot of good restaurants in the Fiesole Piazza, and the local market was easy to find. The bus into Florence was very easy to use, and we went there at least every other day while we were there.
Just a note for others to consider... my family and I were just a little uncomfortable with having a housekeeper in the house with us. She did make coffee and toast in the morning which was nice, and she's a very sweet lovely person. I trusted her with our things and didn't worry she would take anything. But she and her husband could literally pop up anywhere in the house or the pool at any time (except the bedrooms, which she did not enter when the doors were closed), depending on what they were doing while cleaning and maintaining the house. In that regard, this house is a little bit more like a hotel with on-site staff. Some people may like it and having them that available, and some may not.
Also, make sure you are comfortable with taking care of a fine, older house such as this. There are lovely wood floors and fine furniture everywhere. Coasters have to be used, and wet floors dried off. This house may have actually been borderline too nice for my family, as we are not used to the finer things in life. :-) But we sure as heck enjoyed it while we were there!
I do hope we can return in the future, it was a wonderful place.
The house was really nice with the best views over Florence you can have. We were 8 people (3 kids) and we stay there for a week. The house was very comfortable, we all enjoy the pool, the views and the little town, Fiesole. It was very near to Florence and easy to go by bus. We think staying in a house is the best way to visit other places of the Tuscany by car or train.
Finally, the people who help us in the house were very nice and make our stay better! Thank you!
We spent a week at the Villa with a mixed group of 6 people ages 22-50. The villa is modern and beautiful and has an amazing view of Florence. The Villa has huge windows and doors and a view from every one of them. The property is well maintained and has lots of outdoor spaces to enjoy coffee/wine and the view. The kitchen is modern and well equipped. The interior is gorgeous and comfortable. The roof top pool and out door dining are the perfect way to end the day. The owner provided us with the name of a private tour guide which we used 3 times that week. The tour guide organized wine trips and took care of everything including the reservations. The caretakers of the property are nice and helpful without being intrusive. We had a wonderful meal outside one night that she prepared for us.
The location is within an easy walk of the bus directly in to Florence (20 minutes on the bus). The town of Fiesole is charming with restaurants, pubs, banks, shopping etc. In our search process for this trip, we looked at places in some of the smaller towns through out Tuscany (Siena, Lucca, etc), but this location was great for our group and allowed people a lot of freedom to explore on their own.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone thinking of visiting Florence or Tuscany and I hope to go back one day soon.
My family of 6 had the privilege of staying in the beautiful Villa Le Scalette this past July for nearly a week. It was a perfect home for my wife and I, along with my 4 kids ages 18,16,13, and 11. Throughout the entire rental process, the owner Paul and the home's caretaker Antonella were fantastic in helping us get the property booked and in answering any and all of our questions about the property and our upcoming stay. The best part was they gave us an information packet that was spot on! We used several of the services mentioned in the info packet, highlighted by a fantastic site seeing tour with our colorful Italian driver Guiseppe and an unforgettable night at our rental home with some amazing Tuscan cooking lessons by Carolina with Cooking in Florence (www.cookinginflorence.it). My kids still talk about the great time they had while staying there and the memories that we created. Also, take some time to research Fiesole. It's a quaint, and beautiful little town overlooking the entire region of the city of Florence and the views from the home are Spectacular on the hill in Fiesole are unbeatable.
Just a couple of quick specific notes about the home and our experience. The home does come with a light continental breakfast every morning and the caretakers of the home live on premise beneath the home. They are awesome and extremely helpful but it was an unexpected surprise for us to see the maid in the kitchen each morning preparing a light breakfast of toast and juices. The only air conditioning in the house is in the sleeping quarters. This is much better than expected for most of the homes in Italy but be aware that it's not throughout the entire home. And finally, a word to the wise about taking the bus to / from Fiesole and Florence. There are bus ticket Nazis that board occasional and ensure that each and every ticket is stamped properly, every corner, North, West, East, and South side, etc. etc. . . . (long story). If you do take the bus, make sure that you stamp everything perfectly and properly!
I would highly recommend Villa Le Scalette to anyone looking for a fantastic getaway for your family or friends. We hope to come back soon!
After a long day of touring in Florence, it was so refreshing to return to Villa le Scalette. We were 7 people altogether (4 adults, 2 teenagers, and 1 child) and the villa afforded everyone plenty of individual space and privacy while also enticing all to congregate in the communal living and dining areas. In addition, the pool and terraces were wonderful areas to relax and take in the magnificent views of Florence below. Access to Florence via bus was easy and inexpensive, and the town of Fiesole itself was a pleasant surprise with its many fine restaurants, shops, and picturesque streets. The villa was clean, stylish, comfortable, and eclectic. Not your standard accommodations, which is part of the charm. We would definitely stay at this villa again.
