Extra cost surprise
Beware of hidden costs. We arrived to find that electricity and logs and kindling for the fire also had to be paid for. Hot water was on a timer. Heating water and electric heaters consumed a lot of electricity. Also the beds in the twin bedroom were more suitable for children. Kitchen was very small and really only suitable for one person at a time. Nice location though
It's so strange how people who want to write a poor review wait until they get their good housekeeping deposit back! They never complain when they are in the property giving us chance to put any problems they may have had right. I wanted to make a claim against the deposit for the extra cleaning required when these guests left, but my wife said we should not do this as a gesture of good will. I never wrote a review of these guests when asked to because it would have been a bad one. However to answer their unjustified comments please read below.
The hidden costs they claim for electricity are advertised on the site they booked with if they care to read correctly! They also had a email from me via HomeAway confirming the electricity charges early January! We do not have prepay meters or charge premium for electric like some owners, we charge what it costs us. The logs and kindling are provided free with our stater pack and we buy extra in from a cheap source to save guests paying a premium from the local store. After the starter pack provided is used it is up to the guest if they wish to provide their own.
The hot water timer can be set to the guests choice and I cannot see the problem with this. No point heating a full tank of hot water when you want to wash up a few pots and pans. If you require a bath or have the washing machine on you can select the heater to be on longer. Guests states that the water heater and the electric heaters consumed a lot of electricity. Yes! they do if you leave them switched on all day unnecessarily. My car uses loads of fuel when I leave it all day with the engine running!
The bed complaint really amuses me, as my business before retiring to Scotland was wholesaling, importing and designing beds which I ran for 35 years. The single beds we have in our twin room are standard 3'0" x 6'3" complete with reflex and memory foam mattress's and are swopped on a regular basis. (Please check our 5 star reviews and compliments on the beds we provide). The kitchen is not large I have to agree, but does it take two people to cook a meal for two people? Suffice to say we expected this poor review as the guests left the cottage in a disgusting state and waited until the had their good house keeping deposit returned instead of speaking to us about any problems they may have had during their stay! Please see our 5 stay Highly Commended reviews on all sites.
In a beautiful area, away from it all, except nature.
The property is well situated at the north of the Loch Lomond National Park to drive in any direction and reach beautiful and interesting places.
We found Blinkbonnie Cottage to be very well equipped and exceptionally comfortable. Our hosts gave us lots of tips and ideas of local eateries and places to visit, they couldn't be more helpful and were only a phone call away if needed. At the bottom of the garden we watched the daily goings-on with the families of ducks and other birds and also watched in delight as deer passed by.
We enjoyed visiting the local village of Killin which has a great range of pubs, restaurants, shops and natural attractions. The roads are excellent with good signage and even if you get lost, there's lots to see and explore.
We loved our holiday to Scotland and it was in no small part to our accomodation which we would highly recommend and hope to return to in the not too distant future.
Thank you Sarah and Family for your kind response and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. You and family are welcome back anytime and we would like to thank you once again for looking after our cottage and leaving it so clean and tidy!. Hope you all return soon...

A comfortable holiday home with stunning scenery and wildlife
You could stay at Blinkbonnie and remain there without going anywhere else. There are great views to the front and back of the property where woodland birds, rabbits, herons, ducks and, if you're lucky as we were, deer can be seen on a daily basis. It is really peaceful and great to view the night sky with no light pollution whatsoever.
The cottage is well furnished and, of special note, has really comfortable beds. Dave, the owner, gave us a warm welcome and explained what we needed to know. Although there was a problem with the colour of the water following a period of heavy rain, the owners had provided bottled water and it was perfectly safe anyway after boiling. We felt that this was just part of the experience of living for a week in a completely different environment. The property was very clean and, although the kitchen and bathroom are relatively small, you soon get used to having less space in these areas. The lounge and bedrooms are all of a good size. In any case, the location of the cottage more than makes up for any shortcomings in terms of room size.
We chose this cottage for its location. We know The Trossachs quite well from past holidays and we wanted to revisit some favourite places, but also wanted to venture a little further. Locally, we visited the Ben Lawers Nature Reserve twice. On the second occasion we went up to the impressive dam and on through Glen Lyon. We made further excursions to Loch Venachar, the Glen Finglas Reservoir, the magnificent Glen Coe and a superb walk from Killin along the old railway line and along the shore of Loch Tay. There is no shortage of relatively easy walks within a short drive from the cottage.
We would recommend this cottage to anyone seeking peace and quiet. It is a nature lover's paradise and we will miss it!
