About Hans Doellgast

Hans owns Jade Mountain Builders, a green custom home company that consistently is voted Western North Carolina's "Best Green Builder". Hans is a lifetime native of North Carolina, and has call Asheville home for the past 20 years. Hans's Partner in the Bairds Nest apartments is the Architect Michael McDonough. Michael is one of Asheville's most saught after architects, and was originally approached by the owners of 152 Montford property because of his reputation for historical preservation.

Hans Doellgast purchased this studio in 2012

Why Hans Doellgast chose Historic Montford

When the congregation of the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church, in the Heart of Montford, approached their neighbor Michael McDonough about purchasing their building, Michael called his friend and collaborator Hans(Me) to see if he wanted to be partners in a restoration project. My answer was an emphatic YES! And no, I don't need to sleep on it. What followed was a year long, and half a million dollar restoration project that coalesced into the creation of "The Baird's Nest" studio apartments, and "Chiesa Neighborhood Italian Restaurant".

Awesome studio apartment above an Italian restaurant. Very clean and convenient to everything Asheville has to offer. Hans was also very easy to get a hold of when needed. 5 stars!

Perfect place to explore Asheville

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Hans' place for 3 nights in November and very much enjoyed it. The space is perfect for a couple, with tall ceilings, well decorated, new appliances and bathroom, etc. It is also a short 15 minute walk to downtown or a quick Uber. We weren't able to meet Hans but he was very responsive to any questions we had and it was a very easy check-in/out process using technology. We highly recommend this place to everyone. Thanks, Hans!

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The apt was located in a historic area that was close to everything. Could walk or Uber anywhere easily. Very clean and well equipped. Hans was quick to respond and accommodating with our schedule. The restaurant below the apt was worth visiting! Friendly staff and great food. Hope to be back soon! Would definitely stay again.

Charming, spacious apartment

  • 5 of 5

A perfect place to stay in Asheville. Very comfortable apartment with a full kitchen and nice furnishings. Situated over an Italian restaurant, you can sometimes hear the music below but there is very handy access to great food.

Wonderful...In Every Way!

  • 5 of 5

Our once a year weeklong getaway took us to Asheville, North Carolina where we had an amazing time. Each day brought a new adventure and all were absolutely wonderful: the Asheville Rivers Arts district and galleries, the Grove Arcade and the downtown area, the Shakespeare Festival performed by the Montford Players, and the many wonderful restaurants. Perhaps the most interesting day trip took us along the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Cherokee Indian Museum. This was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the Cherokee customs and culture. The apartment itself was perfect in every way. I would describe it as both cozy and convenient. We could walk to almost everywhere in Asheville enjoying the sights and some of the historic buildings. An even closer walk was just downstairs to one of the best Italian restaurants around: Chiesa. If our journeys ever take us back to Asheville, we will certainly stay here again...well maintained, clean, convenient, and excellent customer service.
