Time goes fast! Slow it down island-style in this studio apartment by the beach. With a queen bed, two single beds, a bathroom and a small full kitchen, this is the perfect home base for a family vacation, or getaway for two. Beach is 2 minutes (or less) walk from the front door, literally just across the street. All linens and towels provided, free wi-fi and tv. Some beach toys and boogie boards available to borrow. This place has everything you need and will leave plenty of budget for island exploration!
Laie is a great neighborhood to live or vacation in. The spirit of Aloha is alive and well here and you will feel more like a local than a tourist in this small town.
Attractions in or near Laie include:
A variety of hiking trails of all difficulty levels lead you into the lush tropical forest, some winding along stream beds, and others climbing all the way to the ridge of the Ko'olau mountain range. Many trails end at breathtaking, secluded waterfalls that will make you feel like you're the only person on earth.
POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER
Spend a day (or two) exploring and learning about the many different cultures of Polynesia. The center is made up of seven different authentic "villages," each representing a different island culture. The dancing, music, cultural presentations and activities will keep you (and your kids) entertained for hours. They also put on fantastic and delicious nightly luaus. Their evening show is spectacular, not something to miss out on.
The beaches in Laie are dreamy and crowdless. The sandy Hukilau Beach is literally footsteps from your front door, and you could easily spend an entire vacation swimming in the cool blue water, lazing on the sand, and walking/jogging miles along the coast. East-facing for fantastic sunrises over the water. It’s a great beach for kids as well, with provided beach toys and boogie boards to help keep them busy.
Within 15 minutes drive, you will encounter world-famous surfing beaches including Pipeline and Sunset, and impressive snorkeling at the Shark’s Cove marine preserve, with an endless variety of other beaches in between. All shoreline in Hawaii is public property and there are public access points all along the coast.
Gunstock Ranch, about half a mile away, has horseback riding tours that will take your breath away and show you the country side of this small town.
At the recently-opened Keana Farms Zipline Adventure, see the tropical rainforest from an entirely different perspective.
A surprising array of restaurants are located in Laie. Everything from your average chain places (Subway, Taco Bell, etc) to truly unique food experiences like Hukilau Cafe, Seven Brothers Backyard Burgers, Pounders at the Hukilau Marketplace, and Papa Ole’s Kitchen. Something for everyone.
This apartment is part of our home that serves as housing for students of the nearby BYU-Hawaii most of the year. It has its own separate entrance from the rest of the house, and there are no shared common areas. The only time you might cross paths with another tenant will be in the laundry room, located at the back of the house.
Also please note, to keep our prices rock bottom we do not provide A/C. There are ceiling fans and stand fans in the studio to help keep you cool.
Very great place to stay with kids. Clean, friendly neighbors, beach toys, and very close proximity to Laie Bay Area. Only negative we had of this place is the water heater capacity/usage as we ran out of hot water multiple times due to 5 people needing showered and I believe it might be shared with other renters and upstairs tenants.
If you are looking for a clean, well kept, quiet place away from all the big towns and tourists, where you can really immerse yourself in the culture, this property is perfect. I would definitely rent this place again if I ever find myself back on the island.
Our stay at "Budget by the Beach" was an enjoyable experience -- the apartment was in an excellent location, clean, and had everything we needed. The lack of air conditioning was something that some people might not like, but it didn't bother us as there were fans and plenty of tropical breezes. In addition, the noise of the traffic took a little time to adjust to, since we had to have the windows open and the apartment is close to the main road. But all in all, neither of these mattered very much.
The listing description was very accurate with photos that correctly represented the apartment. Close to the location were beautiful beaches, grocery store, pharmacy, cultural center, and some restaurants.
We needed to contact the owner about the lockbox, and she came quickly and fixed it for us.
I would definitely recommend this location to my friends.
The location of the studio was in a great place. We found a lot of beautiful hikes, beaches and delicious food. The studio looked clean and cozy but the photo is misleading because the studio isn't right off the beach but only a couple of minutes away. We did find a couple of roaches so keep your food stored away. If you are a light sleeper you will definitely need ear plugs due to the noise from the highway. I would say to close the windows to help with the noise but it does get uncomfortably warm and makes it hard to sleep if you do not open the windows.
Loved the close access to all the attractions on the North Shore of Oahu. Bus stops are close and so is the grocery store and fast food. Perfect if you are looking for something small at a decent price. Great service too!
