This cozy little apartment with views of Lanes Cove is situated in downtown Lanesville (Gloucester) and is steps away from the water. With a beautiful mahogany deck overlooking a large yard guests can truly take advantage of the beauty of this small fishing village.
This apartment is in a house built before 1860 - as was often the case in that period the ceilings are very low (in some areas like where the couch with the bingo board is located in the pictures the ceiling height is 6' 3".) We have had people stay in this apartment for 10 years with no problems but want to be very transparent to any potential renters about the height so that there are no surprises upon arrival. Please feel free to ask if you'd like any more clarification.
A 2 minute walk can have you swimming or kayaking in the Cove, painting on the rocks overlooking the ocean (its a popular spot for artists), buying lobsters off a boat as they pull in to unload their daily catch or picking up a coffee and a sandwich from The Grind a block away.
Lanesville is a small fishing village on Cape Ann and is about a 10 minute drive from either downtown Gloucester or Rockport. Plum cove beach is a 10 minute walk away and a very popular place to go for a viewing of the sunset. Because of our location we are one of the few places on the East Coast where you can watch the sun set over the water - making us a top pick for best sunsets by National Geographic.
Gloucester offers a rich maritime history, is the oldest working seaport and active artist colony in the United States and is an ideal place to come to stay or to use as a base camp for excursions throughout Cape Ann. Aside from the local options for activities like Halibut Point state park, hiking in Dogtown Commons or booking a local fishing charter there are numerous destinations just a short ride away in neighboring towns like shopping and dining in Rockport, antiquing in Essex, visiting museums in Salem or taking the hour drive or train ride into Boston.
We don't allow smoking or pets. The top portion of our home is a separate home but has its own entrances. Both properties share our washer and dryer but are separated beyond that.
Creative Director and professor in practice at a nearby college and freelance Graphic Designer married to a counselor at another local school. We've refurbished this house ourselves since buying it in 2002 and are excited to share this place and this town with others. We have 3 kids and live upstairs when not renting it out in the summers.
Tim Sauder purchased this apartment in 2002
Tims apartment is in a great location located in Lanesville. The view from the deck is wonderful as you can see Lanes Cove. At sunset you will want to walk down to Lanes cove for the fantastic sunsets. The apartment is clean a bit eclectic and very comfortable. Its a great location with Plum Covebeach just a walk away.
A fabulous place to spend a week, not too far away from shops and restaurants, a car is necessary!! The accommodation was quite small but very cute and very clean!! A really nice deck with a fantastic view!! Great to have a BBQ too!!! Not having a drive to leave the car was a little awkward but not a huge problem!!! The owners were really helpful and friendly and we would definitely stay here again!! Many thanks!!
Great hosts and accommodation with huge character in a perfect location to either chill and relax or explore the area hiking and sampling the local fare!
When looking for a place on the North Shore, I wanted a place that was easy to drive to but away from the hustle and bustle so we could relax. This location in Lanesville was peaceful. I went to Gloucester and Rockport during the day and I could have gone to Crane Beach, but decided to go back to the apartment instead. Cape Ann is beautiful and this rental is an ideal place from which to explore the area. I felt like a local when I went for a short walk in the morning to the Plum Cove Grind to get a latte and some coffee cake. It was relaxing in the evening to sit on the deck and enjoy the sunset over the water. Even the drive up to this apartment is full of gorgeous views. I appreciated the well-thought-out decor of the apartment. There is not a lot of fuss and clutter going on in here. There are old wooden floors, a comfy leather chair, a couch with clean lines as well as some unique artwork. Tim is a good owner who is patient and prompt and was quick to answer any question or concern I had. The apartment was very clean. So, if you're looking at the North Shore, this is a good place to settle in and just be.
We spent a week here as we were in the process of relocating out of our hometown of Gloucester. The location is quaint, within walking distance to an excellent cafe and a convenience store. Tim was very responsive to our needs and made sure the place was stocked and prepared for our arrival. It has everything you need for a long or short stay. The bed was VERY comfortable and we didn't want to leave! The apartment is cozy and has a rustic feel like a cottage with very old floorboards and doors, yet spacious enough to be very comfortable and usable. Though it was winter, it was well insulated and warm. It would be ideal for a young child as well because there are not a lot of "nick backs" around to be concerned about. The view of the water out of the living room and kitchen is very peaceful. We are confident future guests will love both the apartment and location as much as we did!
Attracted to this property by its modern and thoughtful interior design, I found the space to be a cozy, convenient and relaxing spot, even in late November. To be able to see the water from the living room and kitchen was great. It was great to be able to walk easily to the small local beach and grocery/package store. This neighborhood is home to several artists' studios and the creative life is evident in the sculptures situated on neighbors' properties, signs advertising artists' studios, and random, temporary compositions of sea glass and shells on stone walls. Parking was also easily found across the street from the property.
