About the property

4 Bedrooms 2 Bathrooms Sleeps 8

Our house is in a residential neighborhood with sidewalks and parks. It's conveniently located near Haskell's Beach, Devereux Beach, Goleta Beach, a large shopping center with Costco, Albertson's, theaters, restaurants, and UCSB. Our house is walking distance to 3 parks and a disc golf course. It's a short drive from downtown Santa Barbara.

This is a 1600 ft floor plan home plus a garage, located on a cul de sac. We have 2 children under the age of 5, so it is kid friendly. 2 bedrooms have queen size beds, one has 2 twin beds and the fourth is empty (our kids use it as a play room). We can provide a queen sized air mattress and also have a porta crib. We have a living room and family room, dining area and kitchen. Our backyard consists of a large grass area, redwood pergola and patio with large table, garden beds, trampoline, and play area.

You'll have access to our connected garage with washer/dryer. The house comes with internet/apple tv, BBQ, 12 foot climbing wall and trampoline (to use at your own risk), foam surfboards, boogie boards and beach toys. We have 7 citrus and 6 Stone Fruit trees that, if with ripe fruit, you may pick. Of course, the kitchen will be stocked with all the necessary pots/pans, and cutlery to make any meal.

About Owner/Manager

Our family loves to travel. We escape to the great outdoors whenever possible. Our passions lie in hiking, surfing, climbing, flying (paragliding), camping and playing! We adore our children and hope to instill in them our love of nature and the world.

Currently, we've lived in our house for 3 years and are slowly making it our own, one project at a time. It's still a work in process, but we know you'll enjoy your time here!

Our wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We came to Goleta for a special celebration of a family member turning 100 years old. Kate was kind and understanding when we got in touch with her in December 2015 for our 2 week stay in August 2016. We also stayed in touch throughout our stay . The welcome basket was full of info about things to do and the bottle of local wine and the coffee just made us feel so welcome. This house is impeccable and so homey. My family enjoyed our stay. Everything you need was available to make your stay comfortable and memorable. The house is beautiful inside and out , with special decorative touches.

A lot of care went into doing this and it definitely exceeded our expectations. We used the patio to have breakfast every morning and enjoy the view. This is a convenient and comfortable home for any family young or old. Grocery store, Costco, restaurants, shopping oh so close and the beach too. We were thrilled to be able to stay here and visit family. Thank you Kate and family for sharing your house with us.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Barker's Home for the month of July 2016. We have four young children (6,4,2,baby) and needed a place that was family friendly, but also close to the beach! The home is just as described and very nicely organized and set up for guests. It is evident that they take the time to keep their house stocked, prepped, and organized for their guests. After being here for a month, it quickly became our home away from home where many wonderful memories were made! We loved being able to cook meals rather than eating out often, and the kitchen was stocked with anything you would need (including a Vitamix Blender! We actually have one that I never travel without it so we used our own, but it is available). We are outdoor people, so we especially loved their backyard. Every morning was spent on the patio drinking coffee and evenings enjoying a drink playing games when the kids were in bed. For Santa Barbara, the backyard is big and especially nice and comfortable. The kids of course loved the climbing wall, trampoline, and play structures. The kids also loved all of the toys available! It sure kept them busy in the mornings while we had our coffee on the patio before we took off for the day.

We originally wanted to be close to the beach, but paying significantly less and being in Goleta is well worth it. Its just a short drive to great beaches. It's also just a short drive to the shopping center where everything that you need is... including our favorite smoothie shop, Blenders In the Grass. =)

We took full advantage of vacationing for a month and our favorite places were:

Goleta Pier- Walking to the left and looking for shells. Jogging to the right through UCSB campus.

Cold Springs Hike- Our 4 and 6 year old did it with us! They worked hard for the beautiful view at the top.

Playground Hike

Refugio State Park- Beach!

State Street Farmers Market

China Pavillion- (GREAT Chinese food)

Though there were several beaches in Goleta, we went almost DAILY to Padero Lane Beach close to Carpinteria, which is our absolute favorite. Beautiful views, great waves, and easy parking. It also doesn't usually have the tar that Goleta Beaches have. Plus, Padero Grill is right there and great for kids with a nice Hawaiian feel.

Our 4 & 6 year old learned how to surf this summer and are already missing it terribly. We all are! We would LOVE to come back next summer and make it a family tradition until we move back to SoCal one day.

Amazing home and family

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this property was amazing. We truly enjoyed our experience, and the kids absolutely loved the trampoline and climbing wall. The adults also enjoyed lounging in the lovely backyard space, utilizing the cute outdoor lights as the sun set and it became dark. My family was staying there for my graduation, so her backyard provided us with a fabulous backdrop for photos. Kate and her family were extremely hospitable, and the home was so comfortable. We felt like it was our own home and we had been there for years. You would not regret staying at this home!

What a deal for an nicely updated, well kept, family-friendly house with great owners!

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived at this house near Santa Barbara we were elated to find it met all our needs and greatly exceeded our expectations. The first thing we noticed was the large orange tree in the front that was full of ready-to-pick fruit. Did I mention that I love oranges?!?! When we walked in, we found a large living room, kitchen and dining space that was open and big enough for a large group. There were only 5 of us, but I imagine larger groups would be very comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms were also updated, clean, and very comfortable. The kitchen, living areas, bedrooms, etc are well furnished. Everything is new or looks new. We have 2 young boys (4 and 6) and, like some sort of kid intuition, immediately found the Lego's, books, trains, hot wheels, and various other other toys. They were happy the entire time. One bedroom has two single beds that worked out well for their sleeping arrangements. The WiFi and Apple TV work well. We found a great welcome kit with all kinds of ideas on local attractions and things to do around Santa Barbara. The house is actually just west of the airport with easy access to the 101 and 10 minutes to downtown Santa Barbara.

Wait, there's more. The back yard is AWESOME! There's a trampoline, climbing wall, fort, and more toys for the kids. There's a grill and great outdoor eating space for everyone else. Everything is well manicured and cared for. To add intrigue to surprise, there were more fruit trees with more ripe fruit.

It is clear that Kate and Tim have very good decorating tastes and take very good care of their house. I would recommend this rental to anyone with kids, who love the outdoors, and wants a great experience on vacation.

Perfect place for a Santa Barbara trip

  • 5 of 5

We, a party of 4 adults and 4 kids, were welcomed with a local wine and coffee and a lot of information about the area. The communication was easy via email and text. The kids very much enjoyed the backyard with trampoline and climbing wall. We were allowed to eat fruit from the orange and clementine trees- very tasty! The house is well described at VRBO. It was a perfect place for our Thanksgiving Getaway. Thanks to Kate and her family for sharing their home!
