The MainLake Building . 1927 . was the cornerstone hotel of the lively westside where Billie Holiday seranaded a rolicking night scene. It fell into disrepair until it was purchased in 1990 and renovated to house Chesapeake East handmade ceramics & decor by designer Dana Simson, sold in fine stores and galleries internationally. The Chesapeake East store and gallery is downstairs along with SunPerk’s Cafe and PIY paint it yourself ceramic studio.

Close to shopping, groceries and restaurants, you may park off street in the back parking lot. The building has a lovely view of the river and frequently a tugboat or two are parked out front.

Why Property Manager/Owner chose Salisbury

Centrally located in downtown Salisbury near Salisbury University and walkable to restaurants, entertainment and the Marina. Evo Brewery is just blocks away. You are only 20-30 minutes from the Ocean beaches to the east or the Bay to the west.

There are many wonderful places to explore and we provide a list with details and timeframes. Beautiful Lofts at a reasonable price with many options for fun nearby.

We gutted the upstairs creating 4 large lofts each with 2 bedrooms, full kitchen and inviting living/dining areas. The view of the river is beautiful and u can walk across the street to restaurants with outdoor decks and a marina close by. Downtown is steps away as is Salisbury University.

What makes this apartment unique

off street parking in a large lot behind the building. WiFi and cable TV,

laundry on site, a cafe downstairs and restaurants and entertainment venues steps away. Salisbury is close to both the beaches seaside and the Chesapeake Bay for water sports and kayaking. In town you'll find a great little zoo- bike trails and river walks.

We believe in providing an up-lifting experience for our guests- our lofts are full of original art and designed for comfort. When we travel we noted the places beautifully maintained by hosts really add to the joy of the journey- this is our mission as well.

happy trails!

The property was gorgeous. Don't let the neighborhood deceive you. Once inside we could not believe how nice the spot was and how comfortable the surrounding were. Clean! Definitely would recommend this to anyone staying in the area.

Overall impression was slightly above average.

My wife, daughter and I were in town for a week long softball tournament. We travel a lot with the softball team so we have stayed many places. The place was very centrally located in Salisbury on the edge of a rejuvenated downtown and a not so great neighborhood. I was never concerned for our safety and even left a lot of items in the back of my truck every night and nothing came up missing.

The loft was large and open and the owner was very pleasant when we met in the cafe downstairs. When the sink leaked someone came to fix it within a couple of hours. There was an assortment of items provided in the unit: linens, paper products, toaster, plates, bowls, etc... However, none of it was super nice. The real downside of the unit was the bathroom. It seemed like the entire unit had been rehabbed and had nice furnishings but they left the old, small tub/shower. The water pressure and spotty hot water was annoying. You should also be aware that all four units share the same washer/dryer and it was tied up almost the entire week. The beds were comfy but it you need your privacy you should look elsewhere as this is truly a loft with no walls going to the ceiling. This was not a problem for us as we regularly stay in a small hotel room.

There is a nice new cafe downstairs and some restaurants within walking distance.

Note to the owner: buy a larger tv. It was impossible to see it from any of the furniture since the room is so large.

Overall I would stay here again if I was in the area, especially if they upgraded the bathroom and worked out the hot water issues.

Owner's Response: thank you for your review. The tub is the original tub- as is the tiled interior of the bathroom- (the space was a hotel with many small rooms each with a bathroom-) We thought of yanking the tub out or putting a plastic coating over the porcelain- but this would change the vintage feel and aesthetic we value in our historic building. There were 4 families, with an average of 4 guests so 16 people all taking showers at once during this week. We just installed a large Bosche on demand water heater- $5000 to accommodate high usage and we are disappointed that you had any issues with hot water. We will contact the plumber and let her know as we all worked very hard to make sure this would never be an issue. 90 plus degree heat, softball, trips to the beach and this many guests would tie up the laundry- this is the first time that has been an issue-also the first comment made on the water. The sheets and towels are from Marshels. The kitchen content is full- including teacups, mugs, wine glasses along with dishes, a variety of pots and pans and all the tools one needs. We supply coffee and basic condiments in the frig. I am glad you will return and we would be happy to host you again- I will address your input as it is our goal to have every guest give as a top review.

http://Excellent location and service

Property is between downtown and the marina so both are within walking distance. Plenty of restaurants also within walking distance; both we tried were good. There is normally a café on the ground floor but it wasn't open during our stay so the owner provided bagels and cream cheese. Loft was clean and maintained, outlet spacing doesn't meet current standards but was adequate. Can be noisy due to traffic on street and music from nearby restaurant. The bed was on the soft side and not for those who like firm mattresses. I would both recommend to friends and stay here again.
