Horrible and a fraud

This listing is a fraud. The property itself is very different from what you see in the pictures. It looks nice in the pictures but what you get is totally an eyesore. We rented this place from the 20th to the 27th and we only stayed there for one night. There was a leak in one of the properties, the refrigerator was not working, the house stank and there were bugs in the home creeping out from everywhere. The furniture was old and breaking. There were rats in the back garden. We could smell mold in one of the properties. We paid a lot for a seven day rental as we were in town for a wedding. Everyone had to move out on the 21st as the place was a hazard and we had an infant with us. We could not eat the food we had bought due to fear of contamination. We tried getting a refund and we could only get a fraction back from what we paid and we stayed there for just a day. I had read the reviews before renting and I contacted Kell the manager who stated that the reviews had been addressed and the property was in top shape. This was false. The property was a mess. I know people make stupid reviews at times so I believed the property manager. It is listed so they can get some funds out of you as they will refuse to refund you fully. We have been trying to get through to the property manager and she has refused to respond to us. We are in the process of filing a small claim charge on the property owners. Do not let the pictures deceive you. If you don't believe me, reach out to me and I will send you all the correspondence we had with the manager in the process. The manager has now refused to return our calls or emails. This is what they do after they rent the delapitated property to you. They know you won't be able to get a full refund back. It's better staying in a motel than staying in this property. At least you know what you are getting.

Cautious Guest

This property is very historic and is located in a great location, which is the only reason I gave it an extra star. However, if you are going to stay here, make this be a last resort. I wouldn't recommend it because it was too much stress! The house had so many infractions that it was hard to keep up with. For example, there was a leak in one house, the cleanliness was not the great at all, some things were quite disgusting if I must say. The owner is sweet but to get in touch with her was difficult. I did not stay long and I am glad I didn't because each day I stayed something else ended being wrong. Book this place if you have absolutely no where else to go!

Warning!! - Deceitful and misleading

BEWARE. This listing initially really caught our eye HOWEVER, when we arrived, the actual home was NOT what was listed in the photos whatsoever. Upon arrival, the condition of the house was severely unclean, unsanitary and unkempt. As guests, we really truly tried to reconcile with the owner in regards to our stay at this property but the property manager continuously avoided our attempts to make contact so we could come to a mutual agreement, and actually denied affiliation with this property and VRBO in its entirety. We had initially contacted VRBO’s Customer Support where they did absolutely nothing on our behalf and informed us that it was up to the homeowner and the customer to negotiate. We took several photos in hopes that we could obtain a refund, however each time we tried contacting the homeowner, “Kell” she denied the property being hers.

Shower: Contained mold lined all throughout the shower curtain and shower area. Mildew grown along the floors and walls (most likely due to humidity and severe lack of proper upkeep).

Walls: Damage to several of the walls, holes and cracks in the sheetrock as well as scuffs and holes in the doorways and entry ways. Walls were dirty, covered in marks and black dirt.

Toilet: Toilet seats were worn out.

Air Vents: There was a thick buildup of dust and hair (human, pet?) *completely* blocking the air vents.

General: Used tissues scattered throughout the home as well as a pile of used tissues next to the tissue box. Hair was scattered throughout, and sink/shower drains were clogged. Floors were covered in scratches and old dirt was caked onto the surfaces. Cobwebs on ceilings.

We had nothing but a terrible experience at this rental and took several photos. And to make matters worse, the homeowner was clearly aware of the problem and avoided all attempts to try and solve the issue. Please, DO NOT waste your money and go elsewhere through another company. We are disgusted with our experience and especially VRBO for being completely unwilling to mediate this situation. It turns out that VRBO leaves matters completely up to the customer and the homeowner. It’s impossible to negotiate with a homeowner that avoids all contact and then follows with total denial of any property ownership, period. THIS OWNER RENTS THIS PROPERTY UNDER FALSE PRETENSES, WITH INACCURATE PHOTOS AND THEN DENIES OWNERSHIP ONCE PAYMENT IS MADE AND YOU ATTEMPT TO MAKE CONTACT.

To our understanding, that is a crime.

Not allowing our cleaners enough time to service the house. We take our guests seriously and take into account all feedback as it will help us improve our property for our future clients, in which we have done so to address all necessary issues. Note: Another misunderstanding here is I, Kell, am the property manager, not owner of the property. Problem to this misunderstanding was the client was mistakenly responding to us about a completely different address, which made confusions. They say they were managing the group and was not the actual person that stayed and later apologized for the mistake. This note is to make clear that we are an honest short term rental. Not as stated above, which is not true, however only an adverse review because of cosmetic complaints that were not acceptable for a refund and mistaken us with a different property.

Amazing location, lacking some basic necessities

We were a group of 9 staying at both properties. While the location is amazing, walking distance to lots of cute shops, restaurants, whole foods, soul cycle, trader joes, this great wine bar called barcelona, the property itself was somewhat lacking. Most of the beds were pretty comfortable, although most had no closets. Some of the beds had no duvet covers. The bathrooms had no trash cans. Ambiance was somewhat lacking.

However, the owner was very responsive by text message and was very nice and accommodating throughout or stay. So, overall, I'ld recommend it, but know it's not fancy or super nice.

Great location, upkeep problems

The site was perfect for our needs. It was a value rental in a hip and lively gentrifying neighborhood. We loved the active nightlife in the area, the proximity to subway stops, it's walkability, and dozens and dozens of restaurants and night life options. Not to mention it has one of the best craft beer bars on the east coast only blocks away.

However, there were numerous defects at the property that should give caution to anyone spending thousands of dollars to stay here.

In the 1456 Church Street Property:


sink faucet not attached to counter

dishwasher not installed correctly — not attached to anything, and not balanced front-to-back

microwave not mounted correctly — not attached at bottom

cabinets above stove not mounted correctly — not attached at bottom

one knob missing from stove burner controls


no light in bathroom (bulb? fixture? don’t know)

second (left-side) sink in vanity room comes and goes

Utility room:

washing machine does not work


Curtain rod anchor detached from upstairs bedroom wall

BB shot through window crack in glass

Ornamental top on second-story banister barely hanging on

Both properties could use an update with the kitchen utensils and supplies. We cooked a majority of our meals there and found it to be a struggle at times just to have enough clean drinking glasses for people. It would also be nice to know ahead of time whether there were things like clothing irons available.

Also, there was one point where the Internet service went out and we were told the bill had not been paid. I called the property owner and told them about it and it was taken care of right away.

Despite all these problems, we still enjoyed the space, but would expect more given the amount of money we paid.
