About Laurie McIntosh

I first visited San Miguel de Allende for a week in January 2015 and fell head over heels in love with this charming city. I returned in March to spend an entire month and found this beautiful house and knew I had found a home away from home - I think you will feel the same here.

Laurie McIntosh purchased this house in 2015

Why Laurie McIntosh chose Zona Centro

This spacious, light-filled, beautiful home is ideally situated at the end of a small callejón or lane, which eliminates the noise of downtown traffic so common with other Centro locations, yet you are just a short walk to any of San Miguel's delightful restaurants, churches, shops, and theaters.

What makes this house unique

The rooftop terrace is truly an oasis in this downtown location. Potted trees and flowers bring color and nature to the terra cotta tiled terrace that looks out to the nearby hills surrounding the city.

Beautiful casa, great neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We just completed a wonderful month at this casa. The house itself, which is perfect for a couple or family, is comfortable and beautifully appointed and the kitchen is well-equipped and a delight for cooking. We especially enjoyed the second floor with its great light and windows to the street and open floor plan (living, dining, and kitchen), and the terrazzo. Communications with the owner and house manager were effortless (and personal - we felt that they became friends) and the staff great. We also absolutely loved the location - close to El Centro but on the north, less touristy side and at the end of a sweet essentially dead-end callejon in a primarily Mexico neighborhood. It was very real (and friendly) - people in the house a couple of doors down loved to sing, we heard others practicing the piano and guitar, kids played up and down the callejon (occasionally a bit noisy but they'd generally settle down by 9) - it seemed that something interesting and different happened every day. We've stayed in various neighborhoods during the past decades of travel to SMA, and this is our favorite - we hope to return.

Perfect house, perfect neighborhood, perfect town

  • 5 of 5

I almost hesitate to write so glowingly about this house because it may mean it will be booked next time we want to rent it! But I have to say: this house is phenomenal. It has everything you need—including drinkable tap water, a luxury in Mexico!—and is just absolutely gorgeous. And the location is superb: on a little cul de sac at edge of the Centro so you're away from the hustle and bustle of San Miguel streets, but still an easy flat walk to almost everywhere you need to go. Our daughter loved playing in the evenings with the kids on the street. We loved finding our favorite little cafes nearby. It was just a dream. We will be back next year!!

This charming place exceeded my expectations. Loved la Casa de la Puerta Rosa!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I rented this home for 3 weeks and it felt like home away from home from the moment we walked in. Jose Luis, the manager was waiting for our arrival and showed us the property. The house is in top condition and everything in it is good quality which contributes to the overall feel of the home. Beds and linens are clean and comfy (thank you Estela...wonderful cleaning lady) kitchen well equipped, seating area well appointed and tons of natural light on the second story but less in the bedrooms which helped with sleeping. Being able to drink tap water definitely a plus in my book. The neighbors are mostly local people and very nice. The produce market, Mercado de artesanias and El Jardin are very close but my favorite was Fabrica La Aurora...we went there a few times for breakfast, lunch and to shop and visit the galleries. ... walking distance from this house. Would definitely come back to stay here. Thank you Laurie (owner) for the wine and fruit bowl and for sharing your home!

Casa de la Puerta Rosa is a hidden gem.

  • 5 of 5

On the 2nd of two dead-end streets in a typical Mexican neighborhood, there is a purple house with a pink door. Inside the simplicity of Scandinavian architecture meets the charm of Mexico. We have stayed here once before, with the previous owner, and we were pleased to see the improvements that Laurie has made. Everything is so well taken care of by her and her staff. Jose, the manager is wonderful, reliable, competent and professional. But most importantly a warm and kind person. Estela, who comes in twice a week to clean, is a lovely and hard working young woman. She only speaks Spanish but is a wizard on Google translate. As culinary professionals our favorite features in the house are the well equipped kitchen and the rooftop terrace with its many herbs and citrus plants. We've heard you become the best version of yourself in San Miguel de Allende. In this charming house we started our days with tai chi at sunrise and finished off with rooftop cocktails after exploring this wonderful city. It's a long trip from Norway, but definitely worth it! We will be back :-)

Simply the Perfect Spot in San Miguel

  • 5 of 5

After the long trip from New England we were greeted by Jose, the wonderful, earnest property manager letting us know upon arrival that we were in good hands. He introduced us to the space complete with fresh flowers, fruit and wine. This was our first trip to San Miguel. We've already planned our return and will come back to Casa de la Puerta Rosa because I can't imagine a more perfect setting. It's very well and tastefully appointed with an open, sunny living space, a fireplace in the master bedroom, comfy beds and a great rooftop patio. The space is not hotel-like or formal, but rather inviting and comfortable, making it really feel like a home away from home. It's located on the level and close to the Jardin and all the action, yet secluded on this sweet little street with friendly neighbors and no traffic. There are also nice neighborhood shops right there, like a bakery and a great little breakfast spot as well as the vast Mercado de Artisanias, an indoor market place with tons of food stalls and local crafts. This spot struck just the right balance for us, letting us experience living in a local neighborhood like a resident while feeling safe and competent to come and go easily. Laurie, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with--very responsive and helpful as we worked out our plans. We look forward to our return and would recommend this location to anyone.
