About Laurie McIntosh

I first visited San Miguel de Allende for a week in January 2015 and fell head over heels in love with this charming city. I returned in March to spend an entire month and found this beautiful house and knew I had found a home away from home - I think you will feel the same here.

Laurie McIntosh purchased this house in 2015

Why Laurie McIntosh chose San Miguel de Allende

This spacious, light-filled, beautiful home is ideally situated at the end of a small callejón or lane, which eliminates the noise of downtown traffic so common with other Centro locations, yet you are just a short walk to any of San Miguel's delightful restaurants, churches, shops, and theaters.

What makes this house unique

The rooftop terrace is truly an oasis in this downtown location. Potted trees and flowers bring color and nature to the terra cotta tiled terrace that looks out to the nearby hills surrounding the city.

Simply the Perfect Spot in San Miguel

  • 5 of 5

After the long trip from New England we were greeted by Jose, the wonderful, earnest property manager letting us know upon arrival that we were in good hands. He introduced us to the space complete with fresh flowers, fruit and wine. This was our first trip to San Miguel. We've already planned our return and will come back to Casa de la Puerta Rosa because I can't imagine a more perfect setting. It's very well and tastefully appointed with an open, sunny living space, a fireplace in the master bedroom, comfy beds and a great rooftop patio. The space is not hotel-like or formal, but rather inviting and comfortable, making it really feel like a home away from home. It's located on the level and close to the Jardin and all the action, yet secluded on this sweet little street with friendly neighbors and no traffic. There are also nice neighborhood shops right there, like a bakery and a great little breakfast spot as well as the vast Mercado de Artisanias, an indoor market place with tons of food stalls and local crafts. This spot struck just the right balance for us, letting us experience living in a local neighborhood like a resident while feeling safe and competent to come and go easily. Laurie, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with--very responsive and helpful as we worked out our plans. We look forward to our return and would recommend this location to anyone.

Location, location, location.....and not uphill....

  • 4 of 5

This was our fourth trip to San Miguel.

My husband and I have rented casas in all four points. This is the most convenient location to the Jardin and City Centre. As well as being on mostly level ground.

Casa de la Puera Rosa is bright and well appointed.

You immediately get the feel of welcome by neighbouring families on the street with warm and friendly greetings every day. We felt as safe there as at home in Canada.

We found our favourite butcher, shopped at our local grocer and made ourselves at home.

We were welcome by Jose, of San Miguel Home Management Company, who showed us around the Casa. We cannot say enough about Jose. If you have any questions or concerns, Jose is there to answer all.

Knowing we would be arriving late afternoon, Jose offered to do some shopping before our arrival - for which we were so grateful. But to our added surprise was a bowl of fresh fruit, a bouquet of flowers and a much welcomed bottle of vino upon our arrival by the owner, Laurie. After travelling all day from Toronto to San Miguel, we can't express how much we enjoyed this added touch.

We would not hesitate to recommend Casa de la Puerta Rosa to any of our amigos

Modern and Mexican all under one roof!

  • 5 of 5

I have been visiting San Miguel de Allende for 9 years now with my family and have stayed in a variety of different homes in the centro....Casa de la Puerta Rosa is by far my favourite. From the moment we arrived my daughter and I felt right at home. The house itself is located down a oneway, dead end street. This is a real neighbourhood, with children playing and neighbours who know and look out for each other. The perk of this location is not only did we feel safe, it was quite from regular street noise, chickens and dogs!

This little Mexican gem is much bigger than it appears. The layout of the house is fantastic and well planned. It presents more as a loft as it is open, airy and full of light. Bedrooms are located on the bottom floor separated by an open office. Full bathroom at the end of the hall. Beds are comfortable, and towels and linens are excellent quality. Open Kitchen, living room and dining room are located on the second floor. Skylights and a wall of windows allow the light in. Guests can either dine at the large family table that seats 8 or have a snack at the breakfast bar with seating for 4. All appliances and amenities are new and there is a good supply of basic things like coffee, salt, sugar etc. There is another full bathroom on this floor as well. The top floor is where the laundry is located and an outdoor seating area, perfect place to watch the sun set with a drink in your hand. As with any property, part of the experience is the people you interact with. The owner Laurie was a pleasure to work with. Easily accessible and quick to respond to emails Laurie made the booking process very easy. The property manager, Jose Luis met us when we the late hour of 1am and gave us the full tour of the house. He made sure we could connect to the internet before he left and that that we were comfortable with working the locks on the door. We were welcomed with a big bowl of fresh fruit, bottle of wine and flowers from the market up the road. Estella is the young lady who came throughout our stay to clean and tidy up. She was lovely and very accommodating and helpful with whatever we needed. I simply love this house. Our experience and time spent there will always stand out in my mind. Need a well appointed, beautiful house to stay in centro area of SMA....look no further. You've found it!

Wonderful Location and Style

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful decor and comfort. All kitchen amenities are available, but who cooks on vacation?? Excellent coffee maker, toaster and electric kettle.

The bottle of wine awaiting us upon arrival was greatly appreciated after a long day of air travel. Mil gracias!

We like that the house is not in a gated or strictly Anglo neighborhood; we especially liked that it's on a non-through street so there's no traffic noise. We slept very well here.

For those of you unfamiliar with SMA, this house is ideally located for shopping and dining out.

The staff was pleasant and helpful; both Jose' who greeted us warmly and Estela who cleaned the house with care and precision.

We were there the entire month of September and enjoyed our return trip to SMA after a 5 year absence.

Owner's Response: Ruth, thanks so much for taking the time to write a review! So very happy that the house met your expectations. And thank you also for the kind words about José and Estela, who I think go above and beyond to make our guests feel at home. I hope we will have the pleasure of hosting your next visit to lovely SMA.

Great location and SO comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We stayed @ the wonderful rental for a week over Christmas. There were so many upscale tourist old and young, enjoying the season. SMA is a special community of diversity and pride. The City is clean, the restaurants are fabulous. Case de la Puerta Rosa was a quiet location. Over Christmas and maybe other holidays it is a celebration area with families. Fireworks went off/street parties (next door) for the week we were there till about 10pm. We kind of embellished it. Otherwise, I think it would be quiet and a few steps to a food market and then a few more blocks we were in ElCentro. The House was VERY clean. Very spacious/cooked everyday and had all the things we needed. SO comfortable/upscale decor . There are 3 spaces that are wonderful...the entry/bedrooms,upstairs the living area with kitchen ,then the outdoor big patio with views. The washer/ dryer was a plus. We wanted to explore more of the area, flew into Leon and out of Guadalajara. Parking is an extra fee(lots)..3 blocks away if you plan to drive. But for us it was worth it. The owner was quick responsive and helpful from inquiry through our stay.

Perfect Quiet Location in the Centro

  • 5 of 5

This home met every expectation! We were in San Miguel for Day of the Dead celebrations and were able to walk everywhere. The home is very comfortable, has plenty of supplies, and the manager was most courteous and knowledgable.
