About George & Elisa Doktorczyk

Aloha,

We are the proud (an lucky) owners of "Kona Sunsets", George & Lisa Doktorczyk.

The best thing about the property is that for at least six months each year, it's our home so its well appointed, comfortable and fully stocked with all the utensils of home.

It all started back in January of 2001. We came to the Big Island for a 2 week get-away from the hustle, bustle of Southern California. We had visited other islands but we fell in love with the Kona Coast and made a spontaneous decision to retire early and make Kona our home.

When we announced to friends and family we were retiring in Hawaii most of them thought we were a little wacky and too young to retire! And we couldn't blame them. After all, we were city folks with good jobs and a large network of friends and family in California.

Well, here we are 15 or so years later!. We lived in Kona full time until 2013 years when we were seduced by the call of grandchildren. and we modified our residency to allow us to spend time with family and friends in California. When we're in So Cal, we live in a small, rural community between Riverside and Palm Springs.

We're blessed in that se like both places, but if we ever have to narrow it back to one or the other, it's no contest and Kona wins by a good margin!

Why George & Elisa Doktorczyk chose Kona Coast

After giving notice at work and telling them we decided to move to Kona, we went house hunting but could not find anything we liked (and could afford .... we wanted it all..... spacious, great view, close to town, etc). We were about to give up when one of our new friends found a lot for us. To make a long story short, we bought the lot, designed the house and finished it in 2004. Building a house is not for timid (this was our 3rd one and we had vowed not to ever do it again. But, we're so happy we did. It turned out better than we had imagined.

What makes this house unique

The place is a joy to be in. When we're here, we're always busy doing fun things. We both enjoy the outdoors, the beauty of the tropics and all things beach and ocean.

We both love the warmer climate but we did not want to be right at the shore as it is hotter and more humid than our location. "Sunsets" is at about 650 ft. elevation so we get the full benefit of the trade winds, a lot less humidity and little if any of the salt air.

Typically, we are 10-15 degrees cooler and 10-20% less humid than down by the water.

Last but not least, we love the Hawaiian people, their culture and their friendliness.... and we're in a nice upscale area with great neighbors/friends.

Struck Gold!

  • 5 of 5

What a nice place! It had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The views are 'to die for'. Boats, cruise ships, paddlers, surfers, dolphins, whales, Kona town (very pretty at night with all the lights) and some real wow sunsets. The owners, Dok and Lisa, were very friendly and helpful and good communicators. Can't say enough good about what a good choice this was. Will definitely stay there on our next visit to the Big Island..

Sunsets in paradise

  • 4 of 5

A lovely home in a spectacular location. Located above the highway, the slightly higher elevation makes the climate just that little bit cooler and more comfortable, compared to the ocean level. We stayed in the lower level suite which is roomy and well ventilated, nicely furnished with a homey feel. Kitchen facilities are limited but we managed to prepare most of our own meals. The owners are helpful and friendly, and responded to all of our requests. The neighbourhood is quiet residential, so there is minimal traffic noise, unlike all the other places we have stayed. A very pleasant place to stay.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This home is a beautiful stay and experience. My pictures from the lanai don't do the sunsets justice. Everything in this home makes you feel like you're at home ,even better. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful but close enough to town, that shopping and dining are only minutes away. Would definitely return here on my next trip to the big island.

Definitely coming back!

  • 5 of 5

George and Lisa's beautiful home was truly our "home away from home." From the minute we walked in, we felt aloha spirit and were treated to a spectacular sunset view each evening from the beautiful lanai. The quiet neighborhood and central Kona location provided opportunities to explore both the neighborhood and the surrounding area with ease. We especially appreciated access to all the amenities in this home - George and Lisa have thought of everything which made our stay relaxing and easy. Staying here made our first trip to Kona a positive experience - we can't wait to return! Also, if you need a taxi ride anywhere, or would like a local tour, try Danny and Evelyn who own D & E Taxi Company - lovely people!
