About Victoria Alderson
My Husband and I live in Embsay with our 3 beautiful daughters who attend the local school. My husband is a carpenter and I am an interior designer and Art Tutor. I also run the Embsay Brownie group with a friend. We love living in Embsay, it's a great location and base and we hope you love it too!
Victoria Alderson purchased this House in 2015
Why Victoria Alderson chose Embsay
We bought this property and renovated it ourselves. Its such a bright spacious house we knew it would be perfect for a holiday let as it lends its self to socialising and entertaining with all that the Yorkshire Dales has got to offer on the door step. We've made Blue Dales a home from home with elements of boutique hotel thrown in for a bit of added luxury. When the sun shines the garden is a sun trap front and rear, perfect for al fresco dining.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Short stay review
Clean, spacious and well equipped. Victoria helped us find a babysitter as well, very kind of her.
Great location to explore the Yorkshire Dales
Good communication with the owner.
Property is close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Two miles from Skipton.
Spent four days at Blue Dales. A home from home.
Relaxing place to stay. Dog friendly house. Although please be aware the house isn’t gated so furry friend may venture out of the garden.
Beds comfortable. Great decor and lots of lovely artwork done by the owner.
Managed to sit out and take advantage of the deck and comfortable garden furniture. Hope to return.
Ideal for luxury base to explore the Dales.
So glad you enjoyed your stay at Blue Dales. I hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Wish I’d picked somewhere different
We stayed in Blue Dales for our friends wedding. The property was adequate but there were quite a few things that could have been improved on.
Regarding the property, the black out blinds let in a lot of light, the shower didn’t work very well and wasn’t hot enough for me, and the bed felt quite worn and soft. I also didn’t like the leather sofas and long pile rug. In general the decor was a bit overdone for my taste.
The other comments I have are about the management of the property. Victoria manages the property in a very business like and quite impersonal manner. I didn’t get much communication from her and the communication I did get was very to the point. Personally I like staying in rented accommodation rather than a hotel because you get more of a friendly experience. For me the best hosts are people who enjoy having people to stay and making them feel at home. The only communication I had from Victoria was to tell us the basic info of how to access the property. I didn’t get a response when I sent her a message to check it was ok if we arrived late after work. It would have also been nice if she’d checked we’d settled in ok.
After we left Victoria sent a very curt message about charging us extra because we’d forgotten to put the dishwasher on, take out the bins and clean the surfaces. None of these things were intended in a malicious way, we’d just been in a rush when leaving and forgotten to check they’d been done (Victoria arrived immediately at the check out time to start cleaning, which we hadn’t expected). I felt really bad about the situation as I know it’s horrible to feel like someone hasn’t left your house in the way you’d expect. I apologised but Victoria didn’t accept the apology and was insistent that we must pay the charge. I paid it but it did add to my impression that for Victoria renting out the house is a bit of a chore and just something she does to make money.
It was also quite inconvenient that Victoria moved the check out time to half an hour earlier than advertised when we booked the property, and then arrived immediately at the check out time to start cleaning. Normally there’s at least half an hour grace period.
Overall I think there are lots of really lovely places to stay in the Dales and wish I’d chosen a different place.
Blue Dales is a very popular holiday home. It is beautifully presented and immaculately clean. I work hard to maintain the high standard of the house and the letting experience of my guests.
Indeed I always leave cookies or homemade cake and also prosecco for guest's special occasions. This high standard is reflected in the consistent 5 star reviews I have recieved over the years.
Sadly, your party left my home in a disgusting state. The kitchen was filthy with bins overfilled with waste food so they had to be scrubbed clean. Work tops were extremely dirty and you left what seemed like 2 days of dirty, baked on crockery for me to wash up. My house hadn't been respected at all. My rules clearly state that the house should be left in a reasonable state, my guests have always (until now) respected this.
I thoroughly enjoy letting out my home and helping to be a part of people's lovely holiday memories. As is evident in all the wonderful reviews and comments the house and me as a host have recieved.
Wishing you all the best
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, everything was there that we could have possibly needed. The weather meant we didn’t get to use the BBQ, but everything else was perfect. The decor, beds and facilities were spot on. Will definitely stay again, thank you for a great stay!
Thank you for your lovely review. I'm so pleased you had a wonderful time at Blue Dales. Hope to welcome you and your lovely family again.

We had a great time. The property was lovely.
This quiet Dales village is of ancient origin, with a stone circle dating back to the Bronze Age and having been the site of a monastic settlement in the 12th Century. Today it is popular with walkers and steam railway enthusiasts who come to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside and the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, with its award-winning authentic station buildings and steam trains. Embsay is also famous for it's crag, which presides over the village and Embsay reservoir. The reservoir is popular with walkers and sailors and there is a Sailing Club based here. Billy Bob's ice-cream parlour is 5 minutes drive away and very popular for families with children as they can eat and have fun in their play barns. There are 2 pubs in the village and both serve excellent food. The Old Mill in the village centre boasts a needlecraft centre and coffee shop, whilst all the amenities and attractions of the lively bustling market town of Skipton famous for its Medieval Castle and canal network are all close at hand. Nearby are lots of popular places to visit, including Bolton Abbey, Kilnsey, Grassington and Bronte Country making this an ideal location for a wonderful Dales holiday.
