Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom 1 Bath House Close to Everything

2 bedroom house built in 1937- charming details with a fenced private yard and pretty gardens. Sit on the back patio with coffee or a drink. The house has two brand new beds with organic cotton sheets. One is a California King and the other is a queen. There is also an daybed that opens into the equivalent of a king. We have a portacrib and sheets if you need it.

Secure parking in fenced driveway.

We provide coffee to get you started, a french press and espresso maker. We also have an assortment of teas, spices and basics for cooking as well as a bbq.

The sink has a water filter. The home has ceiling fans in each room as well as air conditioning and a fire place.

We are very welcoming to families and are happy to provide books and toys for your visit. There is even a babysitter we can recommend if the need arises. If there is anything you know you will need in terms of groceries we will make sure it is in the home on your arrival.

We have stocked the house with books on the bay area, maps, and lists of what we love to do here. Please tell us your interests so that we can help you enjoy your trip even more!

Our yard has mature lemon, apricot, and peach trees. The best fruit you have ever tasted- and you are welcome to enjoy.

This is a diverse downtown neighborhood filled with charming older homes with character and fun restaurants. I would say it is on the humble side of hip. We are 5 blocks from Japantown which hosts a Sunday farmers market and many great restaurants and bars. There is a library down the street and 3 parks within walking distance. There is an amazing historic pool also within walking distance.

We fell in love with the neighborhood when we were dating and used to walk for hours. We stumbled upon Backesto Park near our house and loved how you can walk around the park and experience so many cultures. It is one of our favorite things about the neighborhood.

This neighborhood has a nice mix of working class families, yuppies, and retired folks. We do live on the corner of a busy street- in the city but with a very definite neighborhood feel. We hope you enjoy our neighborhood and all Downtown San Jose has to offer as much as we do!

About Lisa Hill-Pierce

I have a massage therapy business and over 22 years experience doing bodywork. I enjoy good coffee, gardening, reading, running, and nature. My husband Brendan and I have lived in the downtown area for 14 years and are happy to share what we love about the neighborhood, as well as the bay area. Brendan is an avid mountain biker and Industrial Designer. Our boys are 5 and 10 and we have a trampoline, a climbing tree and lots of other ways kids can break a leg. We have a secret latch in the fence between our awesome neighbors and our house, and all the kids in the neighborhood are at one of the two houses. We love it.

Now that we have kids, hotels don't work for us. We need a kitchen, we need some room to spread out, and we enjoy a yard. It is always nice to have a little privacy as well. When we travel we love to stay in people's homes and now that we have decided to host we are committed to creating a relaxing and nurturing space. We live in the neighborhood still and will most likely be available any time you have a question or need help with something.

As a couple we are just remembering what we used to enjoy doing before kids. We enjoyed traveling, walking around our city with no destination in mind, eating at quirky restaurants, art, and meeting fabulous people.

We look forward to meeting you!

Why Lisa Hill-Pierce chose San Jose

Well... we bought the house when we got married and then outgrew it as the market tanked. We still live in the neighborhood and we love living downtown. This house means a lot to us- we love the details and charm and hope you will too!

What makes this house unique

Who wants to stay in a condo or apartment when you can stay in a house close to everything, sit in the garden and pick a peach? Walk to the farmers markets 3 times a week, restaurants and bars. Minutes to the airport, bus stop across the street, bikes included. We aim to make your stay memorable!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lisa provided impeccable instructions and directions and proactively reached out in the most hospitable manner from the onset of our reserving her adorable garden bungalow. This garden house is absolutely quaint, warm and welcoming. We plan to stay here every time we visit our son while he is attending SJSU. Perfect proximity to the university and all neighborhoods. Loved our experience here.

I love this home!

  • 5 of 5

We were in San Jose for our Son's graduation. We enjoyed the mornings with coffee and tea out in the back yard. We walked and biked over to our son's home. It was the perfect spot, and it was nice to come to a place that was all our own and felt like home. Thank you so much Lisa for making it a great experience.

Quiet and gorgeous house with everything.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed five nights In the San Jose house of Lisa Hill-Pierce and loved every day we got to be there. The house was beautiful, full of flowers, great backyard, comfortable beds, great shower and all the cupboards were full of goodies we might have forgotten and certainly made our stay easier. We also walked the neighborhood. Really beautiful. We'd stay here again in a heart beat. Thanks so much Lisa, for a quiet, relaxing, safe, gorgeous place to stay. Cheryl Kidder

Great little house close to everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at this house. It was close to the airport, 87, 280, 880 and 101, meaning we could easily get around. The designated parking spot was a little too slim for our rented Jeep, but there was plenty of street parking available. Neighborhood is still "up and coming" in some parts, but we felt safe with our 20 month old there. House has a lovely backyard dining area and all the amenities you could want - including coffee that was there when we got there (we usually have to run out and grab coffee first thing). They were having some work done on the house, but Lisa was very communicative with both us and the contractors, so it was no problem at all. Thanks for a great stay!

Comfortable home near downtown

  • 5 of 5

This is a nice property with plenty of room and great outdoor space. Conveniently located near San Pedro Square and SAP Center. Loved driving around looking at all the great old homes. Owners were very responsive, made sure we were okay, and offered help during a cold, rainy stay. Only concerns were personal preferences - no carpeting, so if your feet are accustomed to it, you may want to pack slippers and "modern" TV (Netflix, Hulu, and other things that we don't know how to use).

Adorable Home in a Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

Adorable home with lots of charming details! There was plenty of room for our family of five. The home provided a great base for us to explore downtown San Jose and the owners were great with communication. The home had everything we needed with detailed instructions. There was even private off street parking with an automatic gate that led to an beautifully decorated and landscaped courtyard. I only wish we had a longer visit to be able to enjoy sitting out there with my coffee and a book! We would definitely stay again and I highly reccommend this home for your stay in San Jose.
