About Kathy McGuinn

I am a 4th generation native of Western North Carolina.I am a nurse for over 35 years and run a home care company. My children are grown now and do not need this large home as I will be traveling. My daughter will be managing the property. She is a nurse as well and has other 5 star reviewed properties that she owns and manages as well.

Why Kathy McGuinn chose Haw Creek

Quiet and beautiful home with a porch on the back overlooking a creek located only minutes from downtown Asheville that is owned and personally managed by the family that owns it.

What makes this house unique

Our family has loved this property for many years as it is a great getaway for enjoying the Asheville area and the Blue Ridge mountains but is a private haven to enjoy family and friends when you all are taking a break together with the great back porch and and bold creek and play area. It is so large so there is lots of common space and private spaces for a large group.

Exactly what we needed

  • 5 of 5

I’m town for a crossfit competition at the us cellular center. This house was reasonably priced and close proximity to downtown which was exactly what we were looking for. Basically just slept there. Owner was very nice when we spoke on the phone and willing to help if necessary although we didn’t need any.

Mediocre Experience, But No Major Issues

  • 3 of 5

We were in Asheville for a trade show that we attend every year, and based on our crew size it is always more efficient to rent a house than try to do hotels. I rented this place based on its advertised proximity to the Biltmore estate, and the number of bedrooms. The house is in a fairly busy neighborhood, lots of traffic, but not a "bad neighborhood" at all. One of the highlights of our stay in the house was watching a huge black bear cross the road each morning to eat bird seed out of the neighbor's bird feeder, which was pretty cool.

As far as the house itself goes, it could use some TLC here & there. Light switch faces broken, light switches that don't work, noisy ceiling fans, drafty windows, horrible water pressure, etc. The main problem that we found with the house was that whomever is responsible for cleaning it should be fired. There was long black hair in each of the bathtubs/showers in the house, as well as on the walls in the bathroom, in the sinks, etc. Definitely also needs replacements for the shower curtains in each bathroom, as there is quite a bit of black mold growing on each.

Only other thing people should know is that there is 1 TV in the entire house, in the living room. None in the bedrooms to speak of. Wasn't a big deal for us, but it might be for other people.

Not all was bad, kitchen is nice, bedrooms are good size with comfortable beds. After seeing the bathrooms I was curious when the last time the sheets had been washed, but we'll leave that one alone. Laundry works good, air conditioner works great, and the house has plenty of parking for multiple vehicles. The owner was helpful with getting us the information we needed for access to the house as we arrived much later than expected, and even left us a 6 pack of Beer in the fridge & some chocolates as a welcome gift.

I gave it 3 stars based on cleanliness & lack of maintenance. There are absolutely worse places a person could stay in Asheville, and with a little bit of TLC, cleaning, and a few updates, this house could definitely be 5 stars.
