Perfect house and location!! A must for Oahu vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 8 stayed here 1 1/2 yrs but we are just getting around to review it. It was spectacular. Stopped at Costco right after we landed and stocked up for the week with beer, wine, great seafood and chicken to grill. There is a Safeway 5 min from the house. There we bought a huge Styrofoam cooler and stocked it every morning with drinks, sandwiches, snacks, fruit, beer, and wine so that whatever day trip we had planned, we knew we could find a great beach for lunch and another beach for happy hour.Private street with the beach steps away. The kitchen and laundry were well-stocked. Space to eat in or out. The pool and hot tub were used everyday, especially after our long days of sightseeing.

We did Halaweia, Banzai pipeline, Turtle Beach, Polynesian Culture Center - all a beautiful drive with the sites to see along the way.

We did the muddy hike (bring old shoes to throw away), Hananuma Bay( get there early- by 8:30, parking lot was full. Pack a lunch to extend your stay. We did Sandy Beach(rough surf so we went to Sherwood Beach- highly recommend!!). We hiked Makupu to the lighthouse and did the beach there as well.

Quick drive to Pearl Harbor(get tix in advance), and the Hula Bowl Swap- got so many things to take home as souvenirs- great prices.

We did surf lessons in Wakiki and hiked Diamond Head(go early or late and buy large bottled water as it gets blazing hot).

We did Kailua and Lanai for the gorgeous beaches and kayak ride out to the Mokes.

Very highly recommend the book, Oahu Revealed. Written by locals and has something for everyone, tourist or sites out of the way. Download the app and away you go on your journey.

We will for sure rent again at some point.

You will love!!

Owner's Response: Mahalo Nui Loa! We are so glad that you enjoyed your family vacation in beautiful Kailua and appreciate you taking the time to write such a great review. It sounds like you had a wonderful vacation and managed to pack a great deal into your stay. Kailua is the perfect base for a vacation, you are a scenic drive away from so many beautiful areas and tourist attractions, yet only a 2 minute walk from one of the world's most beautiful beaches. You can choose to make your vacation as active, or as relaxed as you wish. Like you, we found Sandy Beach very pretty, but the surf can be quite rough there - Sherwood Beach is very picturesque and is closer to home (20 minutes drive). We hope to welcome you back to our Paradise home soon. Aloha, Sue

great house, wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in mid-April 2017...we had four adults and four girls ages 9-13. I had a hard time deciding where on Oahu to stay and I'm happy to say that Kailua was the right choice. Its not touristy at all, just a regular town with all the shops you need and a gorgeous beach. The location is great because you are less than an hour from anywhere on the island...the airport is probably 25 minutes, waikiki is 30 minutes, north shore is 50 minutes and the drives are beautiful. My only complaint with Kailua is there aren't a ton of great restaurants to choose from...at least with outdoor seating/ocean views but that didn't really bother us because we just ate at the house most nights, tired from busy days exploring.

The house is in a great location...about a mile from downtown Kailua and literally a 2 minute walk down a private path to a great beach. During the week we were the only ones out there and the kids had so much fun boogey boarding. It is beautiful and convenient and everything we were hoping for. The pool and hot tub are great - I was worried about the size of the pool but it was totally fine, the kids really enjoyed it and it was always a pleasant temp. The hot tub was great - we had a little trouble working it here and there but overall we loved it. The layout of the house is good - just a big great room open to the kitchen, dining and outdoor lanais. There are two masters, which was perfect for us. Plenty of towels, dishes, etc. Everything was clean...the decor could use some updating but overall we really enjoyed this house and i highly recommend it. Especially for the price...houses closer to Diamond Head are much more expensive but I would choose this location again in a heartbeat.

The owners/managers of the house were great - very easy to work with during the booking process and very timely and informative with their responses to all my questions. We received our deposit back within a couple of weeks of returning.

Owner's Response: Mahalo Nui Loa! We are so glad that you enjoyed your vacation in beautiful Kailua and appreciate you taking the time to write such a great review. It sounds like you had a wonderful vacation and I'm glad the house worked so well for you - with 2 masters, it's ideal for 2 families. Kailua is the perfect vacation base, you are a scenic drive away from so many beautiful areas and tourist attractions, yet only a 2 minute walk from one of the world's most beautiful and safe beaches. As the town is set a little back from the oceanfront, Buzz's is the only restaurant with an ocean view (it's our favorite!) but there are many excellent restaurants in Kailua itself, Bella Bistro, Kalapawai Cafe & Deli, Baci Bistro (Italian) & Tokoname (Japanese) to name a few, or Yamas (Greek) in Enchanted Lake. We hope to welcome you back to our Paradise home soon. Aloha, Sue

Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family group of nine, including three young children, enjoyed this beautiful home beyond measure. Spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed, spacious and well-equipped, Hale Kimo met all our expectations and more. Even the four-year old fell in love with the home, spending lots of his time in the garden-surrounded, lava-rock-lined hot tub which we kept at warm, not hot, for him.

Within four minutes of our arrival from the airport the kids were in the salt-water pool using the pool toys and the adults were listening to Hawaiian melodies with a celebration glass of wine in hand. (By the way, two sets of dishes, one a fun Island flower plastic, one pottery, plus both plastic and glass barware, allowed for versatility in dining. Even the nine of us, with three meals and snacks, couldn't run through the dishes and pans, glasses and serve ware.)

We had no need for air conditioning, although we turned it on once to try it. The gentle trade winds blew through open doors and windows to keep the home cool.

The proximity to Kailua with all its stores and services came in handy. The convenience of a 20 minute scenic drive over the Pali (mountains) to and from the airport was nice after a long day of air travel.

The beach, as close as promised, is a neighborhood beach, uncrowded and friendly. Kailua Bay is gorgeous. The sand area is somewhat narrow but sufficient. Views are magnificent.

Landscaping, lush and colorful, enhances the outdoor experience of the home. Inside, the spaciousness of large bedrooms, many sitting areas, one tucked away for privacy, and a generously spaced great room and large kitchen meet the needs of a group.

We had to call the caretaker for sofa bed linens at one point and the response was quick. We asked so many questions before booking that we threatened to wear out Lynette, who handles reservations, but she demonstrated knowledge, patience and island aloha. Sue was also wonderful.

A wonderful family vacation

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking to relax in luxury, this is 100% the place to book. We traveled as a group of 7 (6 adults and one toddler) and we could not have been happier.

This house is literally 90 seconds from the beach. Of course, Kailua has a lot of ongoing home construction, which is beyond anyone's control, but if there is none nearby, you'll have absolute peace all day. The backyard area is very lush and private. We enjoyed the ability to swim in the pool, then meander to the beach, and end the day in the hot tub.

The kitchen was well-appointed. We never felt like there was a kitchen accessory missing. There are plastic wine glasses for pool/spa usage and multiple full dish sets as well as every pot or pan you would need. I would suggest the owner maybe supplying a bigger coffee maker though, as the house is geared to larger groups.

The bedrooms are great. Every room had a ceiling fan and a stand-up fan. I do wish there was AC in every room (even a window unit) as we definitely fought over the one master bedroom with AC.

The house is a long walk or a short drive from Kailua town, easily the best place on Oahu for travelers looking to escape touristy Waikiki. Tons of great restaurants and shops.

One thing that is completely out of the control of the owner, but they may want to look into a work around is that recycling only gets picked up once every two weeks. If you arrive on an off week, you may be stuck with bottles and cans (hey, it's a vacation, right) completely filling the blue bin, as there may have been ones left by a previous guest still waiting to be picked up.

Our flight out of Hawaii was a red-eye, so we were able to negotiate a late checkout for a fee and enjoy the house for our last full day. This was excellent as we did not have to roam the island with our luggage in tow for 12 hours.

We did run into a couple issues with the pool and spa functionality, but the owner and property manager were so quick to respond to and attend to our issues. In fact, communication with the property manager before, during and after our stay was top notch.

Overall, if you want to stay in a luxurious home, 90 seconds from the beach, book this property. You won't regret it.

It means a lot to us when guests tell us how much they love our home. I'm so glad that you had everything needed for your stay. We do our best to keep the house in perfect condition and make our guests as comfortable as possible. The coffee maker is a 12 cup, but we'll look into getting either a bigger one, or a second one for those who drink a lot of coffee. I know you had a few issues with the pool & spa - thank you for bearing with us while the pool guys sorted them out. We appreciate your patience. I'm glad we could accommodate you for your last day - carrying luggage around all day AND a toddler doesn't bear thinking about!! We hope to one day welcome you back to our home in Paradise, Aloha!
