The house is located about 3 miles outside of Fossil to the North at 17816 Hoover Creek Rd. It is a perfect location out of town with no neighbors in view. Please keep in mind this is an old farmhouse... it is not a new home in the suburbs. It is not perfect- but well lived in. You will be in the middle of farming fields. Keep in mind the way of living here still continues even though you are on vacation. There may be farm equipment harvesting or cowboys moving cattle at anytime. Feel free to grab some morning coffee and just enjoy the sounds and sights. This old Farmhouse is situated in the middle of alfalfa fields and lots of wildlife. The house has 4 bedrooms; 1 king, 1 queen, and 2 twins, 1 full with single trundle that can sleep a total of 9 people.

Absolutely beautiful views, Quiet and Peaceful far
This place is amazing. When we arrived around 6pm the first evening we were met with 25 deer feeding just off the back deck in the alfalfa fields. Every morning and night we saw between 60 and 100 deer with lots of bucks as well. The deer watching highlight was the last evening when just before dark a group of 8 large bucks came into the far side of the field. The house was plenty liveable with lots of bedrooms. My wife and I have a 2 year old and an 11month old and the house was great for them with not too many breakable things for them to get their hands on. Only thing was the deck could use some chicken wire around the railing that would have been a little more kid friendly. As advertised there was plenty of coffee stocked which was great because my family loves coffee. Nothing beat sitting there each morning watching deer and drinking hot coffee. I would highly recommend this place as it was within an hour of the painted hills, the clarno palisades and the sheep rock unit which were all wonderful to see. This house is 20 minutes from the john day river where I was able to enjoy some small mouth bass fishing. Also we made it to Rowe Creek reservoir and caught some catfish. This was about a 20 minute ride as well. This is a small town so eating out anywhere is limited but we went RJs and the food was surprisingly good. I would definitely come back again some day!
I am so glad that you had a great time. We hope you come back again some day. My father in-law mentioned he had a great talk with you and your family! Btw... we are planning on replacing that deck this fall, it is in the works. Thanks again and take care.
It is a beautiful, clean and full equipment house for a perfect get away vacation
Thank you very much for all of the information and full preparation which the owner prepared for us before and during the stay. Based on the owner email, we found the house easily. We did have a great time staying at the house - enjoying the nature around the house and being able to use full well equipments in the house to stay, rest and cook dinner. We appreciate the bbq griller, the living room, the bedroom, the kitchen, the internet, the candles, all the kitchen facilities and even all the cleaning stuffs, etc which all make us feel like home and enjoy our stay to the best. The only thing that made us a little bit confusing was the griller gas be empty pretty fast and we could not buy any beer or alcohol at all because we did come a little bit late after 8pm. So if you plan to come and have a stay there to get away from the crowd for a while, be prepare with food and alcohol, then you just can enjoy the nature and valuable time with family or close friends like forever.
Thank you very much again for providing us with a lot of information and comfy stay in our trip. I hope we will have an opportunity to visit this place again.

Peaceful Country Stay
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful place with us. We couldn't have found a better location for our goal to see the parks and sights of the area in one weekend. We easily did the fossil beds, Blue Basin Trail, Painted Hills and Sheep Head on Saturday and were still home in time to watch the deer trek to the field for supper. The house accommodated us very nicely with nice beds, comfortable bedding and a well stocked kitchen. The horses in the pasture next door endured our attention and fascination with them sweetly. The deer trekking down the hill to the field behind the house were watched from the deck each evening. They munched and frolicked til well into the evening and arrive like clock work at 6:45pm. We nearly broke our necks looking from the deer in one field to the horses in the other. Dragonflies, quail, birds of prey, rabbits all added to the country ambiance. But, the stars are the highlight of the trip. If you are a city dweller you haven't seen the stars in a while, even when you do, you haven't really seen any. The sky was alive and I've never seen the milky way like we did on this trip. We stayed up into the wee hours of the morning Saturday night just so we could enjoy what we were leaving the next day. The owners description is correct this property wears its age well and everything offered works great. We stayed in July during 90-102 degree days and the AC was much appreciated. If you are looking for an authentic ranch in the country experience I highly recommend this property.
Just what we what we have been looking for.
My wife and I have stayed in many houses in Oregon over the last 15 years. We had always wanted to stay in the High Desert area and have traveled extensively throughout this general area although usually to the east of here. What many may find unattractive about Eastern Oregon(specifically it's lack of population)we find as it's unique charm. It's not that we don't like people,we do.It's that the pace of life for us slows down and we enjoy things more when that happens. We had a few days for Mid Winter break as the children were out of school so we took advantage and booked our stay. Our home is Yellow so our children have been asking when can we return to our other Yellow house at Homer Ranch. We climbed the peak across from the field facing the patio deck,Myself and a 8.7.and 5 year old,we were accompanied by the owners dog and the children were thrilled by her presence. We were able to go to The Painted Hills and on the way home stop at The Clarno Unit of John Day Monuments. We mostly cooked at the house. We found a well stocked store at Condon with affordable prices. The house is laid out very well with lot,s of bedroom area,a nice front room,TV and internet reception and we had cell service the entire time we were there. The kitchen was laid out really nice with a lot of cupboards, counter tops and a Keurig coffee maker. The back deck had plenty of seating area and a propane barbeque.
We plan on coming back when we can stay longer. What this area has is natural beauty, wildlife authenticity. In The old Wendy's commercial the elderly lady asked about Wendy's competitors-wheres the beef-I can answer that it is in Wheeler County Oregon. So if you like relaxing, outdoor activities, and what small town charm this is your place.
The owner was responsive and available if needed.
I give it 5 stars
Thanksgiving hiking trip
Pleasant, homey atmosphere. Great location. Not sure about the other beds, but master bed is very comfortable! Homeowner friendly and quick to respond to questions. Good local restaurant in Fossil, RJs.
Beautiful surroundings, quiet, secluded
My wife and I very much enjoyed a 10-day stay at the property in late June and earlyJuly 2015. We were especially looking for a quiet and secluded location where we could unwind, and this was it. The home is very comfortable. It has an updated kitchen, a spacious bathroom with tub-shower, and air-conditioning that kept the home very comfortable despite high temperatures (a dry heat) outside. The home is near pastures used by a cattle ranch, and small herd of cattle in a neighboring pasture entertained us, as did a herd of deer that came to the pasture near us to graze at dusk each night. The home is a 10-minute drive north of Fossil, which has several restaurants and a grocery store. We're looking forward to returning. Condon is about 20 minutes north of the home; Condon is a larger town with a bit more shopping, an attractive downtown, and a nice park. We made a day trip from the home to visit the Painted Hills National Monument. The home has a large grass yard and a large front deck. We were able to bring our small dog. The home is all on one floor.
Only 60 miles from the Painted Hills National Park. (John Day Fossil Beds) http://www.nps.gov/joda/index.htm
