It's luxurious, comfortable and close to many of the city's points of interest. The third-floor Penthouse is within walking distance to many of the city's attractions and accessible to many more via the famed San Francisco cable cars that traverse the area. The Penthouse is located within a walker's paradise with a Walk Score of 98 out of 100

If you're looking to take in a play, the Curran Theater, American Conservatory Theater and Marines Memorial Theater are located just off of Union Square. If it's shopping that interests you, choices abound, from multi-level stores like Neiman Marcus and Gumps to smaller signature stores like Tiffanys and Gucci. And then there's dining. San Francisco is known for its fine restaurants and many of them are in the Union Square and Nob Hill areas.

Just four blocks from the Penthouse (on Bush Street near Jones Street) in another direction is Nob Hill, where you can have a drink at the Top of the Mark (Mark Hopkins Hotel) or grab one of the fabled cable cars for a ride to North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf or the Embarcadero.

And while the Penthouse's proximity to many points of interest is a plus, the Penthouse itself is remarkable.

Located in a lovely, vintage building, the Penthouse is beautifully decorated. The living and dining area, which seats 10 people, is richly appointed. It features a real wood burning fireplace. Two of the bedrooms have a queen-size bed and one bedroom has a king-size bed with deluxe down bedding and fourth story views over Bush Street from the balconies. There are TVs, DVDs and stereos in all three bedrooms and the living room. All TV's provide over 100+ Comcast cable channels. All new custom and designer furniture throughout this unit makes for a most comfortable retreat. A washer and dryer are located in the garage for your shared use.

If staying in appeals to you, there is the gourmet kitchen with top of the line appliances, including wine refrigerator and built-in Miele coffee/espresso machine. Or there’s always the rooftop, where you can grill with a view and dine with the pleasure of gas heaters. And if none of those sound good, you can call Waiters On Wheels, which delivers food from a variety of restaurants, including Wolfgang Puck’s and Steps of Rome. And last but not least – especially in San Francisco – the Penthouse has a one-car garage.

Well maintained and great location.

Clean, comfortable. Roof top deck was refreshing. Beds were very comfortable. Garage was large enough to accommodate van. Washer and dryer were convenient. The location was close to markets, restaurants and cable cars. Wonderful experience!

Perfect location, great for a group

We had a wonderful time exploring the city from the convenient location in Nob Hill. The Penthouse is charming and well appointed. Bedrooms were lovely, closet space was adequate and 2 full bathrooms made this an easy stay for our group of 6. The rooftop patio is absolutely wonderful and we really enjoyed having an evening nightcap up there!

Great location, the managers are easy to work with and helpful and I would highly recommend the Penthouse to anyone looking for a place in the city.

won't be using vrbo (home away) again

the penthouse was nice, although cluttered with lots and lots of dried floral arrangements & nicknacks. relatively clean but pretty worn. a great location but on a VERY noisy street. late night sirens (due to proximity to hospital) and early, EARLY morning garbage pick-ups pretty much daily. But, lots of space, a garage and rooftop deck are all perks!

Now for vrbo, who is now home away. they post a great price, and mention that there MAY be taxes, & there MAY be additional charges for using a credit card. There WILL be! And, PS, you won't see the credit card charges until they deduct it from your deposit and the home away charge won't be included in the total they give you when you book; it's billed separately. There's also a hefty cleaning fee. So as you look at their web pricing, plan on adding 18-20% to the nightly rate.

i have used vrbo in the past, with great satisfaction. i dealt with one very friendly & responsive person who represented both vrbo and the rental. here i dealt with not only home away but also the mgt. company, neither all that friendly and responsive only in that they acknowledged emails. i.e., the elevator was not working. first call, "we'll have that taken care of immediately"; second call, no reply. just a side note; the penthouse is on the 5th floor, a long way to carry luggage!

hope this helps anyone considering booking with home away.

Owner's Response: We pride ourselves in being professional with our guests, providing a very well maintained property with great service and attitude. We appreciate our guest saying the Penthouse was “nice” and “in a great location”. We have a 5 star rating with 76 VRBO comments from past guests. Our guests typically are very happy with our property and service. We are disappointed that this guest was not totally happy, rating us with a 3 star. As to the city noise comment, we do acknowledge some street noise may affect a light sleeper. Cities, by their nature, have noise to some extent, no matter where you are, if you are in the heart of a big city with people involved in many activities. As to daily garbage pickups mentioned, that is not the case as, they pick up garbage once each week. The condo is located in a 7 unit building. The Homeowner’s Association is very responsive to maintaining the elevator. When a repair is needed, the elevator company is immediately called and they historically are very responsive. In this case the guest stayed only 4 nights and the initial call was on a Sunday night. The complaint about VRBO stating there may be taxes charged is confusing to our guest, but not to us. Some countries and states charge sales tax, others don’t. Therefore it is not always true that all guests get charged for sales tax. VRBO says there may be charges for credit card use, as that depends on the owner. Every owner incurs costs for credit card processing. Some owners pass this charge on to the guest, as we do. Our VRBO site state this cost. Possibly this guest did not see this. As to the cleaning fee that we charge, our rate is lower than average ($175). We charge exactly what it costs us. San Francisco costs are high, as the City it is expensive to do business in San Francisco. As to the comment about our representative not be friendly, that has never been the case nor a complaint about our company. Our VRBO guests comments, as you can see, praise our representative’s services and their attitude frequently. We are never happy when our guests are not happy. All feedback that is fair and accurate we appreciate.

Good location.

The apartment was nice and everything as described. We enjoyed our stay and San Francisco is a great city. The noise from the street was quite much and ambulance passing with sirens all day and night.
