We built our family beach house in 1975 and savor many memories of love and laughter by the sea.
Kick back and enjoy a classic beach house in the best kept secret on the Jersey Shore! If you value simplicity and all that accompanies it including the price, then look no further. Quiet, relaxing, serene, and three houses from a no crowd beach. This place, this spot in Strathemere is quintessential beach vacation at a GREAT price. We just finished our second year vacationing here and look forward to repeat visits years to come.
The first thing you will notice upon arrival is that the sound of waves crashing on the shore is ceaseless. The house was build by the owners from cedar--it is quaint and lets in not only lots of light, but also a fairly steady breeze from the ocean. The temps hit 90 degrees when we visited and we did not use any of the provided air conditioners. The best thing for us was the proximity to the ocean: go out the front door and walk less than 100 feet to the entry over the dunes. The beach was never crowded, the water was clear with temps in the upper 60's, and the sand was fine. My daughter collected shells and chased horseshoe crabs all day. We even saw some dolphins a ways off shore. The town of Strathmere itself: blissfully quiet and undeveloped, thought there are some terrific food/drink options within close walking distance. The Deauville Inn is a place where you can either have a meal or just sit at a table on the sand with a cocktail and watch the sunset over the bay. Other towns with more activities (and much, much more people!) are a short drive away: 10 minutes to Ocean City, 30 minutes to Cape May. One of the neighbors, a permanent resident, jokingly cracked, "Don't tell anyone!" I can understand where he's coming from--Strathmere and the Sea Loft are quiet hidden gems!
We just returned from staying in this quaint rustic home in the quiet end of Strathmere. The location is perfect if you want to be close to the beach and this house is the third house from the beach. You can see the beach and the waves from the front porch and the kitchen windows. You can hear the waves and smell the salt water without even leaving the house. The house itself has large vaulted ceilings with cedar beams and big windows to let the light and the beach breezes in. It has a big front deck with seating to relax and enjoy the view or the beautiful birds that frequent the area. The patio doors to the front deck open to let the breezes into the open concept living room/kitchen area which is great for being together with your family. It has a dining table and chairs and 2 comfortable couches. There is a flat screen tv with cable and wireless internet. It has 3 generous sized bedrooms with very comfortable beds. We slept well every night and I am very picky with having a comfortable bed. We did not even need air conditioning with the ocean breezes except for one day when it was humid after a thunderstorm. It has a window air conditioner in the living room area and 2 bedrooms have floor air conditioner units which are adequate to cool the house if you need them (but you won't). There is a large back deck which has a table and chairs and a chase lounge chair which is another nice area for eating dinner or just hanging out. There is one bathroom in the main living area with a full tub/shower combo but there is another single shower downstairs. There is an outdoor shower with hot water for cleaning up after a day at the beach which is great so you don't track sand through the house. The garage on the ground floor has beach chairs the owner lets you use and a washer and dryer. It is big enough to store your beach stuff and we put our beach cart with our chairs inside. They also have a gas grill on a brick patio in the back yard and we used it one night for dinner. The back of the house has a fence surrounding a lush green yard with trees which makes the yard feel private. There is a neat boardwalk sidewalk that was built by the owner that takes you from the front to the back of the house with beautiful flowers that line the walk. Strathmere is a quaint old fashioned beach town. Linda one of the owners was very personable and she answered all my questions promptly. We really enjoyed our stay and plan to rent this house again.
