Hawaiian Monarch is conveniently located at the entry to Waikiki with minutes walk to (0.6 miles) Hilton Hawaiian Village beach and 0.4 miles from the Hawaii Convention Center. Huge recreation deck on the 5th floor with swimming pool, sun deck, fitness center, barbecue area, Our unit is at 33rd floor facing the cool east/Diamond Head side with sweeping ocean, Diamond Head, Ala Wai Canal, and Mountain views. Our unit is newly renovated and tastefully furnished in April 2015: the entire unit is allergy free with no carpet (new luxury vinyl and ceramic tiles); super comfortable 14 inch memory foam queen size bed in one bedroom; bunk beds and a leather Euro lounger / futon (that converts to a queen bed in seconds) in the 2nd bedroom.

1) Our unit is very clean and allergy free with no carpet. We strive to provide a healthy home for our guests using all natural cleaning products from Melaluca.

2) We love Hawaii and have been collecting a lot of books and images of Hawaii, and we have keep some in the unit for your reading pleasure.

Beautiful views, convenience for our family of 5

We had a nice stay here. We were blown away by the gorgeous views. The apartment was comfortable enough for all of us, though it is a bit small. We enjoyed the convenience of walking around Waikiki. We definitely felt safe -- keys required to use elevator. Our kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub. We cooked simple meals in the apartment, and definitely appreciated saving a little money that way. Jane was very nice to work with.

Not what we expected

On first sight, I was preparing to write a scathing review, after staying there a bit I did calm down. The building is old and in need of repair and this is not what most people would consider a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo. 2 bedrooms implies that there are 2 actual bedrooms and an additional room/rooms that house the kitchen/dining room and living room. What this actually is; 2 adjoining hotel rooms one of which has a kitchenette. There is very little room for storing groceries; the stove is old and the oven not big enough to cook a pizza in. It is very cramped and we were constantly bumping our leg on the bed trying to get around it to sit at the table, and there is simply not enough room to sit four people much less the 5 we had at the table to eat.

The queen bed in the room with the kitchenette is comfortable. The bunk beds in the other rooms were ok and the futon uncomfortable. With the futon set up and three kids’ suitcases, there was very little room to move around in the second room as well. The rooms were all clean and there were enough towels for us. The pool and deck area was very nice and the 2 BBQs worked well, there was not any BBQ tools in the condo, however. The hot tub is a residential style so was not very big and not meant to be run as much as it is. There was a problem with heat and one of the pumps is blown on it.

The building is secure with card access required even for the elevators and security in the lobby at night. If you talk to Jane ahead of time she can arrange parking. We were in a gated lot next door to the building at a reasonable price.

The location is good for getting around there is shopping nearby for little things. Getting groceries you will need to drive. If you are going to the beach for the day it is a bit of a hike especially if you are taking much with you. We drove and found public parking near the Hilton.

Ok if not using the kitchen for cooking as the stove is very old.

Family Friendly Adjoining Studios in Waikiki

These adjoining units have spectacular views of Diamond Head, the Alawai Canal, and Waikiki. Our family of five plus our one year-old daughter were very comfortable and both units offered the basic amenities and supplies we needed for a comfortable stay. The building is secure and is in close proximity to major attractions like the Ala Moana Shopping Center, Ala Moana Beach Park, Waikiki, the Hawaii Convention Center, just to name a few. Jane is a very accommodating host and provided all the instructions and details we needed for a smooth check-in and check-out process. The building has a nice pool and bbq area for the family to hang out. There are plenty of eateries and a convenient store next door that is open 24 hrs. The only challenge was parking, so if you plan on using a rental car, budget for parking in the building. Otherwise, get familiar with the street parking hours in the Waikiki area. Although, the public bus system is really good in Hawaii and if you set up an Uber account, you should be able to get around with ease. My family and I truly enjoyed the adjoining condo spaces. They are clean and well maintained. The furniture was enough to accommodate our entire family. There are television sets in both units with an assortment of entertainment channels, and even on-demand channels in unit B which was a real treat for my husband. We stayed for 12 nights in May 2016 and I would definitely come back.
