About Nancy Croisant

I was born in Detroit and after graduating from University of Michigan, taught 3rd grade, then moved to San Diego with my family. I was a single mom with 3 children (now grown) for 25 years and worked in real estate. Now I am married to a Navy man also from Michigan. This property is my pride and joy. It was decorated and reconstructed for two years to make it perfect. I am happy to share this gem with beach travelers to love as much as I do. Besides taking care of Elkwood, I spend my time being a grandmother of three little people ages 4, 6 and 8..

Nancy Croisant purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Nancy Croisant chose Imperial Beach

I love Imperial Beach and became only the third owner of this property two years ago. It was old and abused when I bought it and I have spent the past two years throwing money at it hoping I could save it and make it smile. Some say it looks like guacamole but I think it has a old world charm that I have tried to keep in spite of itself.

Imperial Beach has the most unusual but lovely peaceful feeling surrounded by a crazy world. I hope you can enjoy living there and feeling the home's special aura.

What makes this cottage unique

I'm not sure what to it that old wooden gate and winding cement work with the stones? It is how it is so oddly attached together? It is the strange but comfortable floorplan? I don't know. Tell me what you think?

Just perfect!!!

What a beautiful place to stay! We loved everything about it, and in fact, we are considering going back in the future. We visited all the other beaches in San Diego, and Imperial Beach was answering our needs perfectly. We came here to enjoy the beach, and since we could walk to it within 1 minute, it could not have been more perfect. It is a small community, smaller beach, just what we like as a family of 4, with 2 teenagers. We visited all the other beaches, and we were so glad we picked this one! No need to pay and look for a parking, awesome. Plus, the people around there are so kind! People are so friendly, a team of girls were having a soccer practice in the main area and they invited my youngest to join them (she is a soccer player at heart, so she was thrilled). Our girls LOVED the surfing. We rented boards and wetsuits from Surf Hut for the week and they gave us a good deal. The house was soooooo nice! Very comfortable, extremely clean, and it had absolutely everything we needed. Washing machine and towels were appreciated, as well as all the beach supplies. Yoli who was our facilitating lady on location is just a pearl. She is so kind and helpful, we adore her. A lovely lady. There are not many stores or restaurants in the area, but here are some of our highlights: Babycakes: a must if you enjoy a good cupcake, Beachside: lovely place to get frozen yogourt and all the fixins, Seaside candy: my girls fell in love with that candy store (their favorite part was that they could have a try of the treats that they were not shure about). We really enjoyed the mexican food at El Tapatio. Another must is the farmers market on Fridays. What another great opportunity to have a great feel of the community! For more extensive, fun and not to much extravagant shopping, we found that Coronado was the place to go.

We had brought our bikes and that was a great idea. We could ride them to Coronado beach to go collect sand dollars in the morning, before the croud would arrive there. If you are looking for a cozy, warm, authentic southern California beach experience without the crouds, Imperial Beach is the place. The house is honestly THE best VRBO we ever tried and this is our third beach holiday in the US using one. Thanks to Yoli and Nancy for everything, we created amazing memories as a family over our stay!

just as advertised

Great little hideaway in a great spot. Walk to wherever you need to go in regards to the local hamlet area and beach (expect groceries, which are miles away). Host, Joli, was great, she brought us dinner when we smelled what she was cooking one evening. We slept downstairs, as upstairs bed was a little soft, and my wife didn't prefer the old style window air conditioner in the window. Cozy, comfortable, affordable. I will say that the dining 'nook' was not as useful as it could be, as the bookshelf located there was very musty smelling, enough to not want to sit in there very long. This could be remedied. Showers are very compact, but necessarily so.

Great beach cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We loved at our stay at "The Whale"! Nancy was very responsive throughout the booking process and helpful. Yoli met us on arrival and was very nice and helpful. We didn't have any issues at all. The home is beautifully decorated and looks just like the pictures. It had everything we needed. All we had to do was go grocery shopping. The upper level has a window AC unit which kept things nice and cool. The lower level has a few fans. It was unusually hot when we were there- mid 80s but cooled down at night so we could open our windows. The neighborhood was quiet and we were comfortable. We really enjoyed grilling out and enjoying the patio and deck! You can hear the waves! Sat Farmer's market was great!

Imperial Beach is a block away and takes about 2 min to walk there. We used all of the beach gear and loved using the boogie boards! The waves were huge and fun! The beach was not crowded at all, even on the weekends, mostly locals. Everyone was friendly. There was quite a bit of seaweed on the beach, but that is to normal, it's the ocean. Cowabunga Ice cream, IB Forum, The Wave Cafe, and Babycakes bakery were all delicious and within walking distance. Also check out SurfHut! It would have been fun to bring or rent bikes as there is really big trail nearby.

Several days we drove to San Diego- about 30 min easy drive. We visited Coronado, La Jolla for kayaking, Sea World, and the SD Zoo. They were all awesome! We were really happy we could go out about during the day, then back to IB to swim and relax at home. Coronado and La Jolla are beautiful but definitely more crowded and expensive.

We loved our trip and would like to visit again. Perfect size for our group of 6-3 adults, 3 kids- ages 9, 14, 15. Thanks for everything Nancy and Yoli!!

This was our very first time to the beach and staying in Nancy's beautiful home made it such a wonderful experience! It was decorated beautifully and had everything we needed. Having a washer and dryer was AWESOME! It was fantastic being so close to the beach. No fighting for parking spots! Overall, it was a completely wonderful and stress free vacation for us!

Clean, neat house that is truly steps to the beach.

  • 4 of 5

Nancy was very easy work with and responded to questions quickly. Yolanda met us there and showed us where everything was. The house was perfect for 4 people. The kids loved having their own space upstairs. The patio was fantastic for breakfast/after dinner drinks. We liked how beach chairs and boogie boards were provided for use. The house has its own parking space so no hunting for a spot.

The beach is quiet and not crowded. Cowabunga on the pier has yummy ice cream and is a must to visit. The Estuary is a short walk and has trails with lots of birds and other wildlife.

The only downside is that San Diego is about a 1/2 away and Imperial Beach doesn't have a boardwalk. We knew this when we booked and were fine with it. But, if you plan on doing a lot of touristy things it's something to keep in mind.

Owner's Response: The congested, expensive beaches with their 10-minute shorter drive to San Diego are super impacted, noisy and ticky-tacky. Imperial Beach has lovely simplicity and that is its charm. We are also closest to the most beautiful beaches on Coronado. Sorry you gave us just 4 stars for our wonderful location!
