***We don't book summer 2017 until March 2017 as we wait for family members to declare dates. We typically use it thru the first or 2nd week of August, though. Please feel free to check again after March 1, 2017 for any summer 2017 openings.
Born and raised in Birmingham, MI, I've been coming to Glen Lake since I was born. My husband has fallen in love with the area. My kids have spent every summer up north, and have made several trips in the winter to ski and see their friends.
Michele Aucello purchased this house in 2004
We live in Honolulu, HI, and after hearing many people exclaim that we have the best of both worlds we decided that would be a fitting name for the summer house.
Nice quiet property with lovely neighbors. Far enough from the road and town that we feel secluded, yet 10 minutes away from groceries, shopping, or a bit to eat. Watch fabulous sunsets over the dunes from the end of the dock, then roast marshmallows in the fire pit.
This house is very well appointed and tastefully decorated. It is located directly onto the lake with its own bathing platform and pier. It even has play equipment for the children. We had the downstairs bedroom with a very comfy bed. Although the upstairs bed was ok, it was rather squeaky.
the kitchen is very well equipped, although we Brits, missed the kettle. Yes, we do drink tea all the time.
Overall, we would recommend this house to other families, although if you have robust children, you may feel anxious about keeping the pale carpeting in a good condition.
Very nice home in great location. We had a great time and the home was wonderful. Glad we chose this for our fall break location.
Stayed here October 18th-22nd. Fall colors were beautiful overlooking the picturesque Little Glen Lake with it's beautiful turquoise waters. House was very clean and cozy. Owner is very nice and always responds in a timely manner. My kids (girl age 6 and boy age 4) loved their cozy bedroom with the bunk beds and toys and books! They also loved the awesome playground! Was so nice that we could just hang out and watch them play! Beds were all very comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed. Loved sitting in the living room and putting on the gas fireplace. Also, had a fire in the fire pit one night and told some not so spooky stories. The towns of Glen Arbor and Empire are very close, which was very convenient. Climbed the Sleeping Bear Dunes one day and made the 3.5 mile round trip through the dunes with our little ones. Couldn't believe they made it, but so glad we did because it was awesome and our kids loved it. Also did the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive that was a great way to see the dunes and Lake Michigan by some great lookouts. Both locations are very close to the lake house. Great place to eat in Traverse City is North Peak Brewing Company. Ate there twice! Great food and beer! Overall we are very happy of our stay at this beautiful lake house. Had a very relaxing and fun vacation that my kids, husband, and myself will never forget!
We're relatively regular visitors to Glen Lake/Glen Arbor, and usually stay on Big Glen. This was our first experience on Little Glen - we needed to book a bigger house than usual as we had family joining us - and had a wonderful experience.
Michele was friendly and responsive throughout the booking process. The house looked lovely in the listing, and lived up to the pictures when we arrived. It feels very much like a home rather than just another rental property, and my children loved whole place - particularly the playground and the beach. The latter is absolutely perfect for small children. There is a proper sandy area rather than the usual sand and grass mix we've experienced in other properties. The water is warm, clear and shallow - you can safely walk to the level of the end of the dock and hardly get deeper than your knees!
The fire pit and outdoor seating areas were wonderful in the evenings. The sunsets behind the dunes are absolutely stunning. An amazing place to while away an evening and watch the stars come out.
The property is ideally located close to everything you could want to do. The beach area is nice and the water calm. The house is great! The huge windows are amazing and the living room and kitchen are beautifully decorated. The owners were very responsive and easy to deal with. Glen Arbor is just five minutes away with a small grocery store and great restaurants. There's cute art galleries, shops, tennis courts, mini golf, a park and a drop in art studio for kids. Plenty of nice golf courses nearby. Overall, the property is lovely, I would return, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends.
The yard is just asking for a gathering of some sort. The play set, fire pit, and multiple seating areas can accommodate several families. You can see Sleeping Bear Dunes from the dock. The water is shallow almost to the middle of the lake. The Crystal River outfitters dropped off kayaks and paddle boards for us, but the homes next to us had boats so the water isn't too shallow for that.
Some FYIs: The bathrooms need updating and the central air doesn't reach upstairs (no vents) so it was a little stuffy up there even with the windows and doors open. Ceiling fans would be a huge improvement, but there are two small floor fans. The master bedroom is on the first floor - a plus if you don't want to hear the kids. If you need to hear them, bring a monitor. I slept better than at home, so we might have unintentionally sleep trained our toddler. There are lots of stairs and no baby gates. We have a 22 month old. We had to keep a close eye on her since she's braver on stairs than she should be. Also, the living room is sunken so there are stairs from the main hallway and kitchen that cover half the length of the room. If yours can't do stairs yet, then you have a huge playpen. If s/he is starting to then it's pretty impossible to completely block off.
This property's nightly rate is on the higher end of area rentals for mid-August. For that reason I expected nicer bathrooms and the cobwebs cleared (otherwise the house is really clean with Pinterest level organization). Nothing that can't be fixed. You should go for it.
