About Owner/Manager

Born and raised on Virginia's Eastern Shore and have loved every minute of it -well almost! It has its pros and cons like any area but what I do like is that it is very peaceful, you don't have the bumper to bumper traffic like in most areas. I believe that the Eastern Shore of Virginia is a hidden gem that will unfortunately be discovered and heavily developed one day, until that day comes I will continue to enjoy the peacefulness all around and you will also.

Owner/Manager purchased this house in 2015

Why Owner/Manager chose Virginia

This property is absolutely amazing! The views are just out of this world especially the sunsets!!! There is a 8 foot pool table, plenty of couch seating, 3 large TVs with satellite, wifi internet, dock, shed, kayak, chess table, large gourmet kitchen, dinning table, 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms.

Beautiful sunsets but the house was not what we expected.

  • 4 of 5

Overall we had a good stay but except for a few things. The bathrooms were not very clean. One bathroom had mold in it. We could not find but a couple wash clothes and not many hand towels. The Manager was very nice and brought some when we called. The comforters were not clean but we washed them. One of the bedrooms didnt have a vent for air conditioning and it was very warm. But on a positive note the manager always responded quickly if I had any questions we had. The sunsets were awesome!! The water was nice. We enjoyed eating at the Machapino Clam shack very much. Overall it was ok but could have been better.

Though we overall had an enjoyable weekend, we were underwhelmed by the accommodations and hospitality.

The rooms were small and cramped feeling. The temperature regulation was faulty: some of the rooms were quite cold while others were sweltering hot. This may have something to do with the fact that there was no air conditioning vent in some of the rooms. The kitchen was not well appointed-- with old pans that were flaking the nonstick coating.

There was no list of local attractions, restaurants, map of the area, or information on beaches close by. Propane grill was filthy and did not have propane although the owner said he was going to drop some off.

The water behind the house was very beautiful, however was not swimmable because it was only 4 inches deep. The screened in porch was very pleasant, however there was an area under the eaves that was actually not screened in and therefore very buggy. Also the beds all lacked a top sheet. A sheet that I used to cover my two-year-old I found to have a blood stain.

Very closely spaced neighbors, not apparent in any of the pictures

Lovely stay and lovely hosts but a "nosy neighbor"

  • 4 of 5

I am writing a detailed review as there were lots of positives to this vacation rental but unfortunately there was a neighbor who did not seem to appreciate our presence....

The home is very comfortable with a very spacious gathering area both inside and outside for family/friends to gather. There was no time for boredom as the opportunity for water activities kept us all happy for days. In spite of the heat advisory inland, we enjoyed the water so much! The beautiful bay breeze allowed us to crab, paddle board, swim, and use the kayaks and canoes all day without getting too hot. We even sat on the back porch in the hottest part of the day and we were comfortable. The dock was our favorite and we used it for everything from yoga and meditation to soaking up sun and crabbing.

We are all cooks and the kitchen could be stocked better. If you have favorite kitchen tools, bring them. We couldn't find dish towels or pot holders for example.

The neighborhood is nice and when I could not find a couple items in the kitchen the neighbor across the street was very gracious and offered a wine opener to keep at the house! Unfortunately the first night the next door neighbor complained when we put off one Roman candle as his "infant was sleeping." (We had received permission from the homeowner prior to our doing this). We were disappointed but tried to understand his viewpoint.

Two days later after enjoying a great day on the water the same neighbor came over and accused us of using his jet skis:( and informed us to not use the owners jet ski either. Unfortunately, this was the final impetus in our leaving a day early.😔?😔?

With all this said, Matt and Brittney (owners) were most gracious and hospitable. I would still recommend this property as I trust that Matt will resolve the "nosy neighbor issue".

Perfect Weekend GetAway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful and relaxing long weekend here in June. It was just what we were looking for, so peaceful! The house was very clean and comfortable and it provided everything we needed. The house is set up perfectly and the water views can't be beat! So easy to Kayak in Curratuck Creek out back. The sunsets are absolutely amazing! We met Matt briefly and he was very helpful :) We took day trips to Chincoteague and Cape Charles. We had very enjoyable meals at The Island House, The Mallard at the Wharf, and The Great Machipongo Clam Shack. Crossroads Coffee Shop in Onley has the best coffee and is just a really cool place to visit :) Oh and don't forget to try a piece of Smith Island Cake! Thank you Matt for allowing us the opportunity to stay in your home! We loved it and will be back!

Gorgeous views!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came for a long weekend for my birthday and we had a fantastic time. The house is beautiful and well appointed. The view over the bay is stunning. We spent most of our time relaxing on the screened-in porch or out on the dock. We had lunch at the Great Machipongo Clam Shack, which was delicious, and we spent an afternoon in Cape Charles. We can't wait to come back!

Nice Place for Families

  • 5 of 5

This was a really nice place for our family. The kids loved playing with the chess and pool table. The water out back is so beautiful. Loved the way the house is laid out. Everything is so comfortable. I highly recommend this place to families who don't like the traffic and crowds of OC or other resort areas. The Island House Restaurant and The Great Machipongo Clam Shack both have really excellent local seafood and are nearby. We plan to rent this one again.
