About Nancy Ekelund
I was born and raised in Redding and my grandparents owned a cabin in nearby Shingletown. My summers as a child were joyfully spent there, and the sounds, smells, and sights associated with the mountains, creeks, and forest are in my blood. After college and my first years working as an optometrist in southern CA, I moved back home to Redding in 1992 where I have a private practice. At the end of 2014, I bought this wonderful cabin which fulfills a long-held dream to be back in the mountains. I then spent several months to rejuvenate it into the type of place I believe anyone could enjoy. I feel blessed to own it and if you should decide to share in my little "get away from it all" cabin, I hope you have an amazing stay. With gratitude, Nancy

Why Nancy Ekelund chose Shasta County
What I especially love about this property is that while some cabins nestled in large pines can get dark and even dreary inside, this home with its 3 large skylights and lighter walls stays "open" and uplifting. All rooms have ceiling fans and plenty of windows as well. The cute creek in the back, the private lake across the way, and the nice meadow/open field adjacent to the lake all make for added fun. Bring a bat and ball or a badminton/volleyball set and burn some great outdoor energy!

Great property very close to Lassen National Park
We had 6 adults on our trip and there was plenty of room for us. We did lots of cooking in the big kitchen and at night we enjoyed the living room for catching up. We loved the hammock in the backyard. This is a perfect place to stay if you are heading to Lassen National Park... a true treasure of a park. Enjoy!
Quiet peaceful stay close to Lassen
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cabin had everything we needed and it was comfortable and clean, and a short convenient drive to the north entrance of Lassen Volcanic National Park, about 7 miles. We used the fire pit every night and had dinner out on the front deck every night too. There's even a hammock out back. The thing that we appreciated most of all is that it was so peaceful and quiet, no human-made sounds whatsoever other than an infrequent passing car. That kind of quiet is difficult to find nowadays. We looked forward to coming back to the cabin each afternoon as much as we looked forward to exploring Lassen during the day. There aren't many places that one can say that. We definitely recommend staying here and would do so again.
Beautiful house and grounds!
My family and I had a wonderful stay at this house. The kitchen was a joy to cook in and the Bosch coffee machine was a special treat. Nancy left us a very sweet welcome basket as well. The whole family loved making s'mores each night. The grounds are so peaceful and beautiful as well (although there is a camp that plays pretty loud music close by). We were able to see deer and a bald eagle. The kids really enjoyed exploring the river and pond each morning and evening.
Thank you for a very nice and relaxing stay!
Beautiful property inside and out. Perfect location for what we wanted to do.
We had a great stay at Nancy’s cabin. We walked in to find a sweet gift basket, books/maps of the surrounding area and a very clean and well put together space.
The cabin fit all 6 of us and our pup comfortably. The front deck was great for dinners and the fire pit along side the water feature was a perfect way to end our night. We also loved that the kitchen was open to the living room - we love to cook!
Great location for what we wanted to see. Burney was about an hour away. Entrance to Mt. Lassen about 20 min.
We loved it!
Best VRBO property we’ve ever stayed at!
This cozy cabin is an absolute gem! We loved our time here. The location is perfect for those who enjoy fishing, as there is a pond right outside the front door (our son caught a 4lb rainbow trout during our stay)! In addition, the Lassen entrance is a short drive away, allowing us to visit the park multiple times without tons of time spent driving. Our family has stayed at many VRBO properties and Nancy’s property is the best by far! From the adorable decor, to the spotless interior, this cabin is a MUST visit. We will definitely be back!
Tranquil setting with all the amenities you could ask for. Prime location close to Lassen Park
The home is beautiful and extremely well appointed. The land is peaceful and tranquil. Our family truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend your home to anyone who is looking for an outstanding vacation spot! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Located in the small town of Viola at 4300 ft. elevation, this charming cabin is just minutes from beautiful Lassen Volcanic National Park. The Park is a remarkable place to visit with its relatively easy hike to the summit, or a visit to the hot springs, the visitor center, lakes, museum, and its many other attractions. Just across from the cabin is Bailey Creek with its stock of trout, and Hat Creek, loaded with native trout, is just 20 minutes away. Lake McCumber, Manzanita Lake, and Grace and Nora Lakes are close by as well. We have wineries within 20 minutes, Burney Falls about an hour away, and the Sundial Bridge with Turtle Bay Exploration Park in the town of Redding just 45 minutes from the cabin. Turtle Bay is well worth a day trip - especially if children are visiting. Winter months in the mountains can be majestic - and as cozy and curled up or as adventurous as one desires. Not only is there sledding, cross country, and snowshoeing in our area, but Mount Shasta is available for downhill/boarding roughly an hour and a half away.
