Beautiful property with tons of character

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this home with four adults, a 2 year old and 5 year old for a week bridging July/August 2017. We booked this home because it's a little different from the standard OBX fare--not cookie cutter, smaller and more intimate with warm wood interiors. The home gives the idea that the house has stood there for a century (but my guess is that it's not even a quarter century old). The home is well-maintained, full of charm, and has so many great amenities, including a beautiful garden (complete with a pond full of lily pads, frogs, and fish), an outdoor shower, and lots of outdoor deck space. It's a short walk to the beach down a private road, and a great place to explore the northern end of OBX with its lighthouse, 4x4 beach, and wild ponies. It's also close to the bakeries, mini-golf and restaurants in Corolla but far enough away that the neighborhood stays quiet (although there is a GREAT coffee shop and beer garden with live music each weeknight a short walk across Ocean Trail). We were lucky to have beautiful weather, and the kids had such a great time at the beach (we mostly went early morning and after dinner to avoid the peak sun hours). The owners are also lovely to deal with. I can't say enough good things about the experience--my five year old also loved the house and was begging to stay here forever. This was our first trip to OBX, and we will definitely book this house again when we come back in a few years.

Great location, all the comforts of home

It was just as advertised and perfect for a local wedding with access to the beach and within walking distance to the must sees (lighthouse, hertidge park). A relaxing stay. Not for families with young children as there are many breakables

Great house in a great spot made for a great week.

  • 5 of 5

Travelling with teenagers can be a challenge but this house had so much available - kayak, skim board, beach towels, bikes, etc that all had a blast. Location is prime - Old Corolla across the street and a short walk to an extremely nice private beach. August was the time too - I watered those tomatoes twice a day and was rewarded with some of the most flavorful cherry tomatoes I have ever eaten. Kitchen and laundry were first rate. Foam mattresses a definite plus. Thank you for sharing your home

wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family of seven had a wonderful stay in this cute little cottage! It was the best of both worlds-close enough to the beach and yet wonderfully situated in a wooded garden. We enjoyed the porch and the outdoor shower was a hit with our kids! We felt right at home and we felt it made our stay relaxing because it was so easy to stay there. We used the kitchen everyday as we only went out to eat once. We rode the bikes, body surfed on the boards, even used the surfboard one day. We used the sand toys and the chairs and umbrellas were useful too. We walked to get a pizza to bring home one night-the pizza shop is a short walk at the end of the road. We walked to the ice cream shop two or three evenings. It was the best part of our stay being able to just slow down and stay out of the car. I would recommend this home for your family's vacation!

About Jessica Dalrymple

In 2003 Earl retired from flying as a commercial pilot, and he designed and built this house for Jessica. It was a lot of work but it was worth it. With a family of six kids and 9 grand-kids, this house has seen a lot of joy and fun times. Earl and Jessica celebrated their 50th anniversary in this house a few years ago, and hope you feel all that love. We really hope you enjoy your vacation here!

Why Jessica Dalrymple chose Ocean Hill

The gardens of this house are spectacular. Earl has been growing and tending this garden for years and it shows.

What makes this cottage unique
