Guestbook comments from the owner

My family and I stayed for a week and had a great time. There was so much to do. Fishing, kayaking playing in the sand, taking the row boat out and not to mention the fishing gear, life jackets, games and movies they so graciously provided. The view of the lake from all the rooms were amazing. Evenings around the firepit with the breeze off the lake were so nice. I didn't want it to end. We were just minutes away from Spicers Orchard which we all enjoyed and took in the Rennaissance Festival. All in all Mary and her family were wonderful opening up thier home to us and we all had a wonderful time!

Scenic and Secluded, Hidden off the winding dirt country Roads

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the Keyes cottage in Holly and had a wonderful time. It is so scenic and secluded, hidden off winding dirt country roads, yet still close enough to town to go out for day trips and find neat things to do. The kids loved the boating and the sandy beach area in front was also a plus. Overall, it was a wonderful and seamless vacation. We will definitely come back! Thanks so much to the Keyes family :)

Cute Lake Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to get away for a couple days to the lake May 19 - 21st. The weather was freezing (but the day before was 90 degrees - got to love Michigan weather) but that didn't stop us from going out and having a bonfire to keep us cozy. The fire pit was nice but I suggest bringing your own camping chairs. If you rest your feet on the brick around the fires your toes will stay nice and warm. The cottage itself is cute and surprisingly there is a decent amount of room. The master is sweet - the French doors are see through so I'd advise on brining something to hang over one door at night for privacy (if needed). The kitchen has all you need - and then some. The bedrooms are all fine - master was my favorite because you could see out to the water. All very charming with lake decor around the house and a cute rustic feel. The bathroom was larger than expected - the toilet is newer and gives the appearance of struggle but works perfectly fine (survived two grown men). The shower - could use a little love (but it is a lake house).

Didn't use any of the lake toys on account of it only being 45 - 50 degrees while we stayed.

We enjoyed our stay and would return again.

Owner's Response: Lauren I am so happy you had a good time at the cottage with your family enjoying your husbands 30th birthday!! Thank you for your input regarding the privacy in the master bedroom. There is a curtain for the french door but I have it tucked away for individual needs/wants. I will put the curtain location in the cottage notes for future renters. The french doors are from the 1940's with lots of charm but not much privacy for changing :) Have a wonderful summer, we hope to see you all soon!! Thank you for taking wonderful care of the cottage. Happy 30th again!!

Sunrise over a lake of glass!!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to visit our daughter for a week or two. We didn't want to be to close but not to far away either. So as soon as we came across the Keyes cottage on the lake we new this was the place for us. Mary the owner, was a real sweetheart to work with, it is obvious she loves her lake cottage and wanted us to enjoy it as much as her family did. The cottage was much nicer then the description or the pictures. We arrived from Florida about 5pm Tuesday afternoon, we got out of the car, walked right past the cottage, down the steps and right out on the wonderful new dock and and sat on the chairs and took in the view ! Then we threw the plane trip, Florida, and all our concerns and responsibilities into the water for a whole week!! We usually enjoy staying at B&B's, inn's and other rentals more than hotels so this place was right up our alley. The cottage was warm and comfortable and full of character. For me It had a nostalgic feel and reminded me of the lake house our family had when I grew up! We moved right in without any effort! We stayed for 8 days and every morning we got up and walked out on the dock and sat in the comfortable deck chairs, drank coffee and enjoyed the awesome sunrises on a lake of glass with ducks and geese swimming by. Through out the week we had a couple of great fires in the fire pit, and enjoyed grilling on the deck with my daughter and her friends! It was a great place for my wife and I to steep into another world for a week of fun, relaxation and quiet, something we had planned to do when we retired. The only down side of our trip was the weather, being early in the season, it was a bit cool and we experienced several afternoons of light rain. Not the best boating weather but we never had any problem keeping busy. Though the cottage was off the beaten trail everything you would want ( grocery stores, fast food, ice cream, bowling alley, gym, gun range) all were within a half hour or so. We visited some of the local places the the owners recommended and found some cool places on our own! Great restaurants were close by also so if you didn't want to cook meals at the cottage in the upgraded kitchen, great food was easy to come by. The cottage was also well equipped with 50" TV, Netflix, Videos as well as many board games to play.( good for the younger generation) so if you just wanted to do nothing it still was fun! I suspect we will be booking this place again in the future for another relaxing journey into the north!!

Keyes Cottage on the Lake was a great getaway.

  • 5 of 5

This was our first attempt at using VRBO and Mary made it a very pleasant one. From the first email I sent, she answered quickly and was always very nice. Her pictures and descriptions of her cottage were very accurate. It was just what I was looking for.....a quiet place to spend some time with my husband and adult daughters since it is getting harder to get us all together. Mary met us at the cottage and showed us around and you could tell how much she wanted us to enjoy her cottage and we did. The view from the back was great and we liked the little sitting room. Then when you step out the back door, there is a very nice deck or you can continue down the steps to the yard, where we used a nice fire pit, and then on to the dock. We really liked the dock and the great chairs at the end of it! Kayaks, a canoe and a little boat were just more fun you could use at no additional cost.

All in all, a really nice stay at this cottage and Mary was great to work with. It was a successful first use of VRBO and I would use it again, and I would definitely recommend this cottage.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

The Keyes Lake cottage was perfect for us! It's cute and quaint but is so comfortable for a family of 6. The owners were so friendly and answered all of our questions. We can't wait to come back in the summer to go out on the lake!
