Greetings to you future guest!

It is a pleasure to welcome you at the Bed and Breakfast ''Il Mulino Di Valle'' here, in the heart of the Apennines Mountains between Tuscany and Emila. Our centuries old Mill has been refurbished and kept in all it's ancient beauty since the last day the grinding wheels stopped turning more than 40 years ago. Before starting your visit of our unique structure, walk with me across our natural domain that has seen history passing by for the last 1000 years. We are part of many books, stories and legends across all this time.

Our special little micro climate has helped growing an endless mature woods that homed incredible wildlife and are filled with countless wild flowers in every months of the year. Only a few steps away from the watermill you can either follow animals tracks for hours or discover kilometres of our natural walking and cycling trails. The wildlife often come to visit our garden filled with millions of fireflies in summer or during our magic mystic winter nights. Il Mulino di Valle geographical position, deep in the end of a valley where 3 rivers converge, make it ideal for the perfect getaway from the excess of mother nature. Here our summer nights are fresh and winter shows up just enough to be enjoyed. Like an echo from the past, you can hear water running everywhere inside and outside our little B&B. If all this seems already promising: falling asleep in a fresh comfortable bed, under the sound of running water, will blow your mind away... But wait, as the magic is far from over...

As we walked back to the Mill, following the ancient mill stream, you can noticed a first glimpse of what we will offer you. You see a lone stone structure with no neighbour, standing among tall trees, with two large verandas where you will maybe read or enjoy dinner and the river-rock paved court to dance under traditional music on special events. As you get closer to the old entrance door of Il Mulino Di Valle, you are passing by one of the last working Antique Wood Oven where we cook our breakfast bread, meals and pizzas for your own delight.

Ready to push the old door carved with the initials of the last millers?

It opened onto centuries ago. Thick rock walls are framing the intact remains of the mill grinders and mechanisms, still waiting for the water to make them move again. Maybe on your way to admire this piece of history, you will notice the old dinning room next door with its 2 meter wide fireplace and a range of unique Mountain Wine and Balsamic Vinegar. This is where you will enjoy your complete organic homemade breakfast with sweet and salty options or one of the traditional Italian dinners we can offer. Next to the grinding wheels, our newly install wood stove make sure to keep you warm in colder months. This large mill room can host different events, group dinners and use for different purpose.

The stairs will bring you to the hall of the Grain Floor of the mill, where they used to store the grain many years ago. The only two bedrooms of this floor are sharing a living room with TV(movies), books and games, a hall with a tourist information centre and a bathroom. The full Grain Floor is then ideal for families or group of friends. On the other hand, both rooms can be rented separately giving, in either of them, all the privacy and intimacy you can wish for.

***On one side you will find the impressive Suite Peonia that offers a unique antique experience. With its incredible furniture chosen to create a peaceful harmony between the low majestic wood beam ceiling and the three rock walls, it will stunned you without any doubt. The opening of any of its 4 windows will bring inside a soft sound of the ever running water from the mill stream.

***On the other side of the hall, the beautiful Twin Girasole is waiting for you under its old wooden ceiling. This room offers a double or twin bed solution ideal for friends, children or workers. It is flooded in light by two windows that easily bring in the fresh breeze of our valley.

***Our last option of room will need you to return to the outside courtyard where a private entrance opens upon to our complete Apartment Lilium. It has a newly equipped kitchen, a private bathroom, a dining room and a wonderful bedroom. The smell of burning wood from the stone fireplace situated the heart of this last one, a liberty set of couches and a large comfortable bed are welcoming you to a unique timeless atmosphere. Antique floor, wood ceiling and multiple rock walls open up to green nature through the seven windows.

Now the difficult choice is for you to make between all those options which all included our complete range of services:

In our near neighbourhood, the beautiful natural park of the Bucamante's waterfalls is even connected to our domain by antique walking trails. We also have unique local activities that are worth your visit like the Wood Oven bakery ''Il Forno di Pazzano'' where you can buy fresh organic bread and special homemade products and the CasaBoni Winery offering generous wine Tasting of its unique small production of organic and biodynamic mountain wine aged by ancestral method. Many farm shops are close by and offer high quality products at very convenient prices.

Castles as Pompeano and Montecuccolo can be visited as you follow an incredible scenic drives towards the mountains. Those are even leading you to the ski slopes of the Abetone and Cimone mountains within 45 minutes. You will also find along the way, with our indications, unique roman bridges and gorgeous little villages unknown by tourists. Many national parks as the ''Sassi di Roccamalatina'' that offers breathtaking scenery when explored by car, mountain bikes or by foot. It is worth mentioning that Italy is a worldwide gastronomic centre and our mountains are in fact its heart. (Forbe Magazine reviews).

In the opposite direction, driving towards the plains, you can visit the Antique Rose Museum before reaching the Ferrari town of Maranello 15 minutes away. The castle of Vignola is a must see as much as the village of Castlevetro, just a little off the way towards the historic city of Modena with its beautiful centre. The near town of Sassuolo offers you nice Thermal Spa and Spilamberto hosts the Balsamic Vinegar Museum, that originally comes from Modena.

Il Mulino di Valle, with our stunning geographical position, is a perfect location to relax and recuperate between the visits of crowded main Italian hotspots. We are situated in the middle between Florence (Tuscany), the Dolomites, Venice, Bologna, Mantova, Ferrara, Cinque Terre and Milan. It is the also an incomparable getaway for a Special holiday in the sunny Italian countryside.

Let us transform your vacation in a unique experience, where history, nature and gastronomy meet to then let you go back home with unforgettable memories.

We are looking forward to have a glass of mountain wine with you, next to our old grinders with the echo, through the rock walls, of the running water. Us, the Mill Keepers, and our centuries old antique mill with its atmosphere frozen in time, are warmly welcoming you to sleep back in time and live the ancient Italian rhythm of life...

Sincerely yours,

-The Mill Keepers-

Experience the Countryside in Unique Setting!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at the mill in the valley was like traveling back in time - time to go off the grid, people! Impeccably restored and appointed, you really felt like you were in another place and time. And the trip from Florence gave us a feel for the windy roads and hills. Jess & Yan (and dog, Big Boy) were PERFECT HOSTS! Nice people, great healthy organic breakfast, and helpful in every way. Waking every morning to the gurgling stream, singing birds, and nearby bells ringing to mark the time was so lovely. Put your electronic devices away for a few days and enjoy!

Secluded bed and breakfast in a small hill village.

  • 4 of 5

The property is clean. Antique furniture...so you need to have care if you are taking children. Children enjoyed picking cherries from their yard. You need to arrive in daylight as it is a bit hard to find and the way up has some curves on a one lane drive. You should be ok with a gps. You need to make sure you have all your essentials as there are no stores very close by and you are requested to remove your shoes upon entering your room ( for us this was ok, because we normally do this anyhow). They have goodies for sale, made in the region, jams, jellies, flour. Although there is wifi, you cannot download any type of video either short or long. As a business, they take good care of it, they run a tight ship. It is a beautiful area close to Modena.

Comfort and Beauty all around ( and baby goats)

  • 4 of 5

We were lucky enough to have found this gem of a Bed an Breakfast. Our hosts were delightful and have a passion for the service they provide. They are happy to share what they know about the area. Jessica is actually born and raised very close to the Mill and has the feeling of a young person whose soul is connected for centuries to the area...Yan is a hard working, gentle man and truly anyone looking for a peaceful stay in the countryside of Italy should consider this accommodation... I could have stayed for a month, perfect writers get away, or a great place for a family... or someone just needing to get away from the fasted paced life we all lead.

We were four of us but decided to rent the apt as well as the suite, but the suite could have accommodated the four of us easily. The apt is well appointed and has all you need, including a kitchen!

Big Boy an as sweet as sugar dog who, from the story told, adopted Jessica and Yan, is a highlight, and when I say this it's meaningful, being I am NOT a dog person or is my family, but you can't help but adore him... regal, stoic and basically the welcome mat. You will see what I mean if you get a chance to stay at this historic Mill. The Breakfast was so delicious... Homemade bread and fresh delicious scrambled herbed eggs from their chickens... truly yummy....Oh and lastly the morning we left (we only stayed one night, being we had such time restrains in our trip, but I HIGHLY recommend a longer stay) we were shown the new additions to the property, three week old Goats, so amazing.

Couldn't recommend this B and B more!

Serene property and gracious hosts!

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I managed to sneak in to this lovely rental for only one night due to a scheduling fluke. We knew we wanted to make the most of our brief stay and I believe we accomplished just that! After we checked in during the late afternoon we headed out to explore the property, very pretty, water running and an overall sense of calmness his you as you take on all the sights and sounds. We grabbed a bottle of wine and relaxed on the patio before dinner. Jess and Ian prepared us an authentic dinner since we didn't want to leave the property. They joined us at our request and we had a great night leaning more about the property, local specialties and history of the area. The dinner was probably one of our most special moments during our week+ stay in Italy. We went to bed pretty early that night and awoke the next morning for another fantastic display of food for breakfast (including eggs which seemed scarce in Italy). Our rental was very cute. It was full of antiques that felt right given the history of the property. We slept very comfortably. The next morning we went to a winery down the street they had recommended and had a fun start to our day (a story for another day). I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy a peaceful spot in the country and take in the wonderfully rich culture of the area.
