Friends Reunion Dec 23-26 2016

  • 4 of 5

We were four families that stayed at this property. The house is big and was easily able to accommodate all 12 people including the kids (3-12 years). We liked the big and open kitchen, that was able to seat us all. We all had a good time. The bedrooms were spacious with ample supplies of blankets and pillows. The house has a lot of space. Despite the house being old, it has excellent heating and cooling. We all had fun. The house is located within the trees and has a private hill for a early morning walk. One of the things that we faced was a constant tripping of one go the kitchen power outlets. There is a person on call who can come and fix any issue. However, this being christmas weekend, we were not able to get the help. We were able to reset the switch ourselves, not a big deal.

Hopefully would like to come back again in future.

Thanks for having us.

Perfect home for large families.

  • 5 of 5

I read some mixed reviews of this house prior to booking but we took a chance and booked it anyway. We were very pleased that we picked this house.

The kitchen was large and the dining room had three tables with enough seating for 15 people. We had every pot, pan, and utensil that we needed. The owner even left us a bag of ice in the freezer.

The living room was huge with a big screen tv. A couch, three comfortable rockers and a recliner along with a couple of extra chairs. A large wood burning fireplace. The owner had wood stacked by the fireplace for us to use.

Upstairs we had three large bedrooms with comfortable queen beds and a bedroom with twin beds. Three bathrooms and a laundry room.

Downstairs had a large family room where the kids hung out the whole time and three more big bedrooms with queen beds. It was huge.

We had 10 adults and 6 kids and at times had my sisters family over, 7 more people and it never felt crowded. We felt right at home.

Dish tv and good internet. Lots of trees on the property and the fall colors outside made for great family photos.

The photos of the house on this listing do not do this place justice. You will love it here. We will come back.

Somewhat disappointing

  • 3 of 5

The house is very large and sleeps several people on comfortable beds. The kitchen is also large as is the outdoor property. The pool was closed due to the season but there was a grill available and a swing set.

However, the house is very very crowded with way too much furniture and way too many nick nacks and personal photos and items making it difficult to move around with small children. It is in need of a fair amount of maintenance and some repairs. It was in need of a good deep cleaning and dusting. There are also dogs on site that bark a lot and the caretaker lives on the property as well which was awkward.

All in all, it was nice to have room enough for our large family and our dogs to stay together, but for the money we were disappointed with the facility.

Owner's Response: Response to Susan Woodbury’s review. Mrs. Woodbury speaks out of both sides of her mouth. To begin with she says “The house is very large”, The kitchen is also large as is the outdoor property. At the end of Mrs. Woodbury’s review she says once again that “ All in all, it was nice to have room enough for our large family and and our dogs to stay together. “ Mrs. Woodbury’s party was quite large, as well they had three huge dogs. This property is very well suited for these large parties. Also the house has plenty seating for everyone. It is finely decorated with beautiful paintings and portraits on a few of the walls. I am not sure of Mrs. Woodbury’s knowledge of fine art and the value many educated folks put in the classical style of portrature, but these particular items of art work were selected with care in the decorating of the house. With a party the size of this one, she should be thankful for plenty seating and tables to accomadate. You cannot please everyone. I am sure if there were fewer seats this woman would still be complaining that there were not enough chairs for the comfort of her family. As for the barking dogs; dogs bark! This property is backed up next to the woods where deer and turkeys are viewed frequently. Dogs bark at wildlife. The property is advertised as being in a secluded location where wildlife can often be seen and admired. Also the caretaker is on property for the safety of the guest as well as the protection of the property. If this woman chooses to book a stay in such destination she must expect her dogs to bark when they smell and hear wildlife. Also she should have read what is written in regards to the property as to having a caretaker on the premises. No dusty or dirty anything was found. We clean this house emmaculately! Again, there are those in this world who will never be happy or pleasable.

Listed on wrong site- not a vacation home

  • 1 of 5

The photos are very edited. They don't show the "pool house" right off the pool that someone is living in; or the living room that is lined with recliners & rocking chairs so you can watch the chipped big screen tv; or the large family portraits covering every wall; or the owner's personal items in the bathroom drawers & closets; or the mildewy basement family room. We have stayed at alot of rental places over the yrs & we have never had one like this. This house should be listed differently so renters know that they are renting the owner's home as opposed to a vacation home. Unfortunately, we left & stayed in a hotel & then found a different vacation rental.

Owner's Response: Briar Rabbit Hideaway is the perfect vacation home for that large party of people who want lots of open space and need plenty of seating. This spacious vacation home is well furnished with comfortable seating for large groups. Also this property is equipped with amenities for the comfort and convenience of those in need of little extras in a vacation home. In keeping with the tradition of fine southern living, all of the original antiques and decor have been left as is, inticing many visitors interest into the history of the family who once called this their home. The house has seven bedrooms with two masters. One of these master bedrooms is actually equipped for the handicapped making this the idea choice to all who want their loved ones with special needs to be able to vacation with them. Although the property has no seperate pool house, the swimming pool is located just off the back deck right outside the kitchen and large living quarters making it convenient for people with small children who want to play in the pool. For added convenience and security for the property as well as our special guests, there is a caretaker who resides on site in a cabin and is available and can be called upon at any time for any reason. Although you will hardly know he is there, the added security and reassurance of him being there is much appreciated by most guests. The property owner now resides with her daughter in another town making it neccesary for there to be a caretaker. House is well kept without changing the original design and feel of this semi-rustic mountain stone lodge. Oak Hardwoods addorn the main level floors and brand new burber carpet covers the floors downstairs making it clean and enviting with absolutely no trace of musty mildew odor. The downstairs floor is open with beautiful floor length Pella windows giving in plenty of light and view of the outdoors. The only holes one might find here belong to the many rabbits which call this mountain ridge “home”. The original name of the road leading up to the house is actually Rabbit road. The property is set well off this road and follows the little rabbit trail up the side of the mountain to where your hideaway awaits. It is a hip hop away from the little town of LaFayette, Ga. where you can find every convenience a traveller might need. Photos are up to date and taken with a my simple iphone. softball tournament

The house was very spacious and fit 3 families easily. It was comfortable and met our needs while we stayed for a softball tournament. The children enjoyed the pool and the large yard to run around and explore.
