Summer Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The home was beautiful! It was exactly as described and then some. The location was walking distance to town, the marina, lovely shops and restaurants. We highly recommend this vacation home to families visiting the area. We enjoyed coffee on the porch in the morning and drinks in the backyard in the evening. It was perfect!

Perfect location and exceptionally clean

  • 5 of 5

Our two families had a great week staying in this house. It's clear that the house is very well maintained and it was exceptionally clean upon arrival. It was the perfect location with a quick walk into town for coffee or ice cream and to the playground and beach. It was also an easy drive to other area attractions such as Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Arbor, Fishtown in Leland, and the many wineries in the area. The front porch and backyard made for excellent play spaces for our kids during the day and wine drinking spaces for the adults at night. The kitchen is well-equiped for cooking and grilling at home. Even though there are two bathrooms, there's only one shower, which wasn't an issue for us but may be for groups with more adults. The house is full of beautiful antiques and we kept a close eye on our kids while inside, so if you have rambunctious kids this may not be the right house! The street is very quiet, even during a holiday week, which was much appreciated with our young children. Mary Lou responded quickly when we contacted her about check in and when we had a minor question during the week. All in all, we had a great stay and are looking forward to returning to the area again next summer!

Seriously vintage

  • 3 of 5

While the house was in a great location, had updated kitchen appliances and plumbing fixtures, a lovely yard, some charming period details, was clean and very well maintained, it was much too vintage for us. And by vintage I mean it had lots of small, dark, choppy & poorly functioning spaces (only double & single beds with virtually no closet space, narrow steep steps and only 1 tiny shower); was overloaded with too much furniture and bulky antiques; was inundated with too many personal affects (such as 100’s of old books and dozens of photos & paintings of family members going back 100+ years); and smelled old & stale. It also is not at all suitable for people with mobility challenges. If mobility isn’t an issue for your group and vintage is your thing, you’ll probably love it. Vintage is not our thing, so we were literally only there to sleep and shower. There are more pictures on the listing now than when we booked, so our booking was a leap of faith that didn’t turn out for us as well as we’d hoped.

Great place to stay in Sutton's Bay

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this classic home. It is full of interesting memorabilia and also very comfortable and very clean. Loved the front porch, the fire pit and the property overall. The house is in a convenient location for walking to coffee, lunch or dinner or just strolling. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it. (We were a party of 4). Mary Lou is a great hostess! She made sure our stay went smoothly.

Lovely house with quaint charm in Suttons Bay

  • 5 of 5

The house was picturesque for the small lake front town of Suttons Bay. It is situated just 2 short blocks from town, which is perfect for walks and shopping. The decor is charming and the small details in each room make you feel like home. There are a lot of steps which just add to the uniqueness of the house. We were six(6) people total and there was plenty of room. Highly recommend for any traveler to this area. MaryLou was wonderful to deal with. Thank you!

A Wonderful Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

There were 7 of us in our group - all friends from high school getting together to celebrate a milestone birthday. I found Mary Lou's house on VRBO and was so pleased that it was available for 3 nights, and I didn't have to rent the entire week. The house was spacious and perfect! It had 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a well-appointed kitchen, screened-in front and back porches, a living room, a library, a formal dining room, and a casual eat-in kitchen. Not to mention a beautiful yard with a fire ring and patio for evenings outside. All the bedrooms had AC, and the furnishings were very comfortable. The house is on a gorgeous, quiet street one block from downtown. All the restaurants, shops, ice cream, espresso, the marina, and everything else was a 3 minute walk. We were able to spread out, relax, eat out, eat in, talk, and laugh our heads off. This house has everything you will need for a wonderful get-away to Suttons Bay!
