West of the Moon is a perfect Peaks Island vacation home. It's located on Whitehead Street just a short walk from the ferry and only steps away from the ocean. West of the Moon has amazing views of Whitehead Passage and the sparkling seas beyond. This beautiful cottage sleeps 8 adults with 3 bedrooms, a pull out sofa and 2 bathrooms. Along with its charm and incredible views its location is ideal being only a 5 minute walk to the village area where shops, restaurants and the ferry dock are all located.

We rented "West of the Moon" as our daughter was married at the Peaks Island Inn...The house was great - comfortable, cozy and so close to the Inn. WIth all the preparations for the wedding, it was wonderful to come back to the house and just relax. Our son and daugher-in-law were with us from Florida and they are expecting our first grandchild in March. We all enjoyed the house so much; we discussed renting the house this summer sometime. Thanks again, it was wonderful.

Lovely, traditional Peak's Island Cottage with modern amenities.

"West O'The Moon" is a traditional Peak's Island Cottage, with the charm of a family home that has been in one family for 100 years, but with updated kitchen and baths providing the conveniences of modern living. Conveniently located just a block from the ocean, we found it perfectly suited our family's needs. Neat and clean... and with a handy laundry and dishwasher on the first floor to help keep it that way. A+++

Great island cottage - perfect family vacation!

My husband has grown up going to Peaks Island with his family and we have been bringing our children since they were little. So we have been in love with the island for a long time. It's a great family destination. This is the first time we have rented a house as we usually stay at his family's cottage. West of the Moon was perfect for our family of five (three teenaged daughters). The porch was our favorite part and we sat out there all day long. Great people watching - we consistently heard "what a great house" from people walking by. The house itself is very cozy, well appointed and was immaculate when we arrived. All bedrooms have very comfortable beds and ceiling fans which was very much needed since we were in the middle of a heat wave while we stayed. Because of the wrap around porch, the house stayed nice and cool for the most part. Underneath the porch were beach chairs, toys and a few bikes although we rented for the week from Brad's bike shop. We had great meals at the Inn, Peak's Island House and Cockeyed Gull and had ice cream from Downfront every night. We easily entertained family with lobsters twice and used the fire pit for s'mores which was really fun. The only thing that we noticed was a slight lack of seating space in the family room. We probably wouldn't have all been in there at the same time watching TV except that the Olympics were on so it's not a big deal. Overall, all five of us loved our stay and would recommend staying here!

Our family of five spent 6-days at West of the Moon cottage on Peaks Island. We had fabulous Maine weather and the cottage worked very well for us. This is the fourth time we have stayed on Peaks and West of the Moon was by far the best cottage to date. The cottage is in very good condition and well-appointed. It felt more like staying at a friend or family's home rather than a rental. We were wanting for nothing in the way of linens, kitchen appliances, washer & dryer, outdoor grill, etc. The bathrooms are very clean and everything works well. Note that the bath tub on the second floor is very small. Both bathrooms are lacking in grab bars and other common safety features. The side yard/patio and wrap-around porch are nice places to relax and view the ocean. We rented a golf cart which was handy to get around with a 2-1/2 year old, but a walk to town only takes 5-minutes and the scenic road around the island is in front of the cottage. We should mention that the cottage has some issues with regard to mobility for small children and the elderly. The cottage has a steep set of stairs to access the front porch and a smaller set of stairs to the back door. The stairs to the second floor bedrooms are very steep and challenging to tall persons or those not in good physical condition. We accepted this condition as it is a period cottage, but the rental description should clearly mention these issues.

Quaint house in a good location with great views.

Overall, the house is lovely and is outfitted with almost everything you'll need for a great stay. This being said, I do feel obligated to mention a few specifics for the taller guests in the future. Some of the doorways are low. My husband is 6'3" and he bumped his head more than once coming down the stairs. Also, there have been (beautiful) renovations over the years. Some of which have left the floors uneven between the rooms making it necessary to step up/down when going in and out of these. Having been the owner of a historic house in the past, I can appreciate all the aspects that make them unique and at times quirky. Please don't let these detract from the house; I just wanted to be thorough for the future guests. The views were awesome and the owners response to questions during our stay was super fast and always polite. The only other 'wish' I would mention is that it could use a good 'spring' cleaning for things like cob webs, dust and the oven. The sheets, towels and bathrooms were all clean and bright. Maine and Peake's Island are both beautiful. My family had a wonderful time. We would definitely stay again at West of the Moon and recommend it to others.
