Nice place

  • 4 of 5

We celebrated a 80th birthday party and Thanksgiving at this great house. The house is wonderful and the view is outstanding. The driveway is a bid steep, but the parking can be managed. It is nice to also have 2 parking spaces at street level. The house had plenty of space and bathrooms for everyone. There was only one old TV in the living room, which was a bid of a problem. There is carpet in the kitchen and one has to be careful as not to stain it working on the sink and stove. There is no regular dinning room table, only two bar heights tables, one in the kitchen and one in the game room, that can be put together to seat 8. It would be better to have a regular dinning room table so all of us could sit and eat together on one table. The game room as a big hit with the younger ones and the young at heart. We took walks down to the lake and one evening were invited to join some local residents with a camp fire, which was a wonderful treat. We had a great time at this wonderful house and hope to be able to return sometimes in the future.

Great Lake House - very spacious and beautiful scenery

  • 4 of 5

Has a girls trip weekend to relax without the kids. The house was great, very spacious and was supplied with towels, linens, shampoo/conditioner, kitchen supplies, etc. There are two decks out back which are large and have an amazing view of the lake and bluffs.

Decor is a little outdated but the layout of the house is fantastic. 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms (4 of which have showers). The house stayed a little warm even with the air running but being August in Texas that is expected. It wouldn't keep me from going back. Everywhere in Texas is hot right now.

The only thing some of the ladies did not care for was that the driveway was very loose gravel and a bit steep so it made getting out of the drive a little difficult. We were able to manager though, and again, wouldn't stop me from going back.

Overall great time, beautiful house, beautiful views!

Great time on the river

  • 5 of 5

First, place is very roomy. We had 10 people staying and had no issues with rooms. Cold A/C is a must in Texas summer and the house did not disappoint. Had everything we needed for a comfy stay. The patio is great and there is plenty of parking as we had 5 cars and a boat. Launching the boat was pretty tight. Mine is an 18th boat and if it was much larger, you better be a better trailer backer then I am. The primary lift is for a deck boat, not a V shaped boat. But it really wasn't much of a problem. I just left the boat at the tie up at the dock. As you are on a little inlet, you don't have to worry about waves. The river does get a lot of traffic on the weekends. We ended up going over to Inks for a day as it's close by and as I had worked on the lake back in college, it was great to see how Camp Longhorn had changed. I also found the property people very accommodating. We checked in early with no issues.

Great view, few repairs needed

  • 4 of 5

The lake house had a great view (especially at Sunset), had plenty of room and bathrooms, a local boat ramp that was not closed even though many others were, helpful and friendly locals, fun pin ball game and pool table, and was clean. We would have liked to have a curtain in the shower upstairs (it is set up so that you can see the view while showering but is open to anyone walking on the upstairs deck and with binoculars to see you). The upstairs air conditioning quit working on our second night and only sputtered on again for a short period before we left. Thankfully, it wasn't the middle of summer, yet. I assume this will get fixed. The TV didn't work at all, but we were told it was working before we got there. It sounds like it was relatively new, so I assume it will also get fixed under warranty. Overall, the location was good, view beautiful, and worked well for our large group. The AC and TV both need repairs/replacement.

One word AWESOME.! Awesome house,Awesome views,Awesome hot tub.We came for a" ladies retreat" 6 ladies and we were all in aww of the house and views, We cooked several meals and had all the cooking utensils we would possibley need .We never turned on the TV , who would with the fabulous views sitting on the porches. The house was also stocked with books, movies and games, with 6 ladies we didn't get a chance to do any of that. Only one thing we can think of, would be the barking dog on the property in back, however it was not too bothersome that we didn't absolutley enjoy our weekend. only wish we could have stayed longer.

Really great house. Big and relaxing.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the house. It was hot outside, and the A/C worked great. The house is really roomy and had a wonderful feel. The porches (upper and lower) have fabulous views. Stars are really bright at night. Never used the hot tub, but it was big. The grill outside was really good too. Warning that there are only 4 parking spaces and you have to keep your boat trailer down at the ramp at the end of the road. I never felt like my car was at risk there though. Lots of people around and they all lived around there so they seemed to keep a good eye on things. I can't reiterate how beautiful the views are from the upper deck.

Really the only issue (and it was a pain) was the boat house was closed, and even if it was open, I don't think it's very close to the actual house. I never got to it, so not quite sure. But you had to drive a a mile or 2 just to get to the park where the boat house is. I was able to launch the boat at the ramp just at the end of the drive and this is really close to the house. Just a few hundred yards. Problem was the ramp doesn't have any doc next to it, so you can't launch your boat by yourself. Basically launch the boat while someone else backs out, park your car and have them come and pick you up. As I like to fish in the morning, this was not possible by myself as the kids don't get up that early. If the boat house had of been open I could have just stored the boat there, so don't pass on this house just for that. Just make sure the park is open. I did get some price relief so was happy the owners made it good. And Whitney is a cool lake. It's 37 feet deep right in the little cove where you launch the boat. There is a rock formation right outside the launch area which made it easy to navigate back to the right place. On a new lake that was kind of cool and the big rock sides around the lake, just makes it look cool.

Best part of the weekend was just having a large house to relax in, and as I have kids in Denton, College Station, and Austin it's really convenient for all to meet up for the weekend. 90 minutes from DFW.
