Our experience at JBar III was positively glowing. It is a stunning log home with gorgeous views of Mt Sopris from the lovely backyard deck. We loved eating outside, enjoying the mountain views, and taking short drives to Aspen, Snowmass, and Glenwood Springs. We have 3 children who adored watching the backyard chickens and playing in the backyard and the sand box. Our girls (8 and 5) loved the room downstairs with 2 twin beds, it is a little girls' heaven, decorated in white and green and even some doll furniture. Our baby slept in the other room downstairs which was equipped with a real crib (Not a pack and play!) and a video monitor already mounted on the wall! I cannot say enough how helpful the owner Jimmy was in making sure everything was ready for our stay. He let my girls be very involved in gathering eggs from the chickens during our stay, which was a HUGE hit for them! The house is well equipped for kids of all ages, with games, a fantastic back yard, and Jim even got a high chair out for us. We had a lovely, relaxing time and hope we can return again. Thanks again Jimmy for sharing your exquisite home and making our stay just wonderful! Lisa & Ben and family
We hoped to show our friends from Sweden the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and give them a bit of western flavor. The JbarIII certainly filled the bill. The log house is both stunning and comfortable. Mt. Sopris fills the view from the living room and the setting is lovely in every direction. It is a treat to start the day with fresh eggs, and coffee on the expansive deck gets our vote for happiest morning routine. It's a short drive to Carbondale (try the White House pizza), Aspen, and Glenwood Springs, and skiing, hiking, hot springs, and many wonderful restaurants. Perfect!
We would love to come back!
We spent a few nights over the holidays with 5 kids and were very comfortable and warm. Skied in Snowmass and Aspen. A little bit of a drive but not too bad. Kids had fun with the chickens and we all enjoyed fresh eggs. Carbondale is close by and is a cute town. We would stay here again.

This house was amazing! Even better than the pictures. Not only is it gorgeous but it just feels so comfortable. The kitchen has absolutely everything you could need and sitting in the gorgeous family room with the fire looking out at Sopris was heaven. The added bonus was the farm fresh eggs left for us! So delicious! I would absolutely rent this house again. Thanks for sharing your home with us, Jim!
Our time spent at the Ranch was most rewarding! It was our first time in the area, so we didn't know what really to expect. We were having good friends in from Wisconsin for a fly fishing trip and we wanted to show them the time of their life fishing on the Roaring fork, Frying Pan and the Colorado Rivers. There couldn't be a better place to unwind after a day of fishing than at the Ranch. Jim, the owner described his wonderful log home perfectly. It has the most spacious deck facing Mt Sopris where every night we watched the sunset on the mountain with a glass of wine and talked about our day of fishing and sightseeing. The gourmet kitchen fit us to a Tee as we all like to cook and enjoyed using all of their wonderful appliances and utensils. The master suite has a spacious whirlpool tub for soaking after a day on the water. The Ranch is located about two miles off the highway and is close to all the sites of the area. In the morning we saw deer and in the evenings we would see wild turkeys, so there is plenty of wildlife in the area. Even though we did not have any children along, the Ranch would be an excellent retreat for families. The Ranch house easily sleeps six people comfortably and is large enough for separate privacy, if desired. Every day, Jim would provide us with fresh eggs from his flock of laying hens. The experience was as advertised and we would highly recommend staying at the Ranch to anyone looking for a relaxing time away; in fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much that we are thinking about a return visit in the near future.
A stunning log cabin! We had been watching the TV show "Buying Log Cabins" and thought we would try this one out in rustic Colorado...wow this is the most beautiful log cabin I have ever been in! All the amenities and so beautifully decorated. The kitchen is professionally outfitted with whatever you might need to rustle up your favorite recipes. We ate around the large dinning room table 3 of our 7 nights and sampled Aspen and Carbondale's wide range of restaurants the other 4 nights. I love to cook on the grill and Jim's barbecue provided the perfect vehicle to cook the steaks from the butcher he recommended.
We had not visited Colorado before and Jim set us up with numerous activity and sightseeing trips; from old mining towns, to the affluent lifestyle of Aspen, to trying the good fly fishing (easy access) and great fly shops the area has to offer. I would recommend this house to a family looking to get away for a week together (lots to do for everyone's tastes), as well as a couple of couples looking for a long weekend (lots of private space)! We look forward to returning to the JBar III this fall and the view Mt. Sopris has for us!
