About the property

This fabulous apartment is located  in the heart of the Oltrarno district, just a few steps away from Santo Spirito square and all of the typical antique shops, artisans' studios and great restaurants the neighbourhood has to offer. Located on the first floor of a beautiful Palazzo of via dei Serragli, it has been entirely renovated in 2013 and can sleep up to 4 guests.

The bridge right next to the apartment is Ponte della Carraia, where it is possible to find excellent cafes' and restaurants and just walk through streets with unbeatable character and fantastic shopping. All of the city's main monuments and points of interests can be quickly and easily reached in a just a few minutes walk. To name a few examples: world renowned Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) is just a about a 5 minutes walk away, the Uffizi museum and Piazza dell Signoria just about 7/8 minutes, Santo Spirito square (with its wonderful daily market) about 2 minutes away and the Pitti Palace about 5 minutes away.

Please note that the loft is inside the centre town's restricted traffic area, so it is ideal for those travelling by plane or train, wishing to live as a local, within walking distance of the main tourist attractions. However, upon request, a car pick-up and parking service is available and includes cancellation of any penalty for entering the restricted area outside of the accessible times.

The apartment is about 780 square feet large on two levels - with a loft section connected by a wooden stair case. It can sleep up to 4 guests and comes with 2 bedrooms and 1 and a half bathrooms.

It has been entirely renovated in 2013 and is very quiet, with double-paned windows, air-conditioning, wi-fi, (see speed below*), a flat TV with blu ray reader and elegant furniture including lively paintings.

The entrance of the apartment opens up on the living area that features a cozy living room and a dining area with an open fully equipped kitchen.

One double bedroom with a king-size bed overlooking a quiet courtyard allows for a peaceful night sleep, undisturbed regardless of the potential late night happenings of the lively neighbourhood.

The upstairs mezzanine/loft hosts two single beds and is light and airy thanks also to its large window. It is possible to easily stand up in the mezzanine as in its highest part the ceiling is at about 6 feet.1” but mind the beam at its end!

The first bathroom has wonderful wooden exposed beams, and features a sink, walk-in shower and toilet. The second (half) bathroom comes with a washing machine.

The name “Oltrarno” literally means “beyond the Arno”, and this district, which stretches along the south bank of the river, represents the true character of Florence and in general is quieter, greener and more relaxed than the other districts of Florence so that many tourists tend to choose the Oltrarno area for this reasons.

Locals still live and work in this area and have not given it over completely to generic chain shops and hotels as some of the other area of the center have slowly done. Traditionally an artisans’ quarter, the Oltrarno still boasts many lovely antique shops and artisans’ studios (especially furniture and leather-workers) and Via Maggio remains the focus of Florence’s thriving antiques trade. In many little squares and streets of this area the traditional daily life can still be seen more easily than elsewhere in the city. Monuments, museums, churches, palaces, parks: Pitti Palace, the Ponte Vecchio, Santo Spirito Square, the Gardens of Boboli - as well as Yoga studios, bookstores with restaurant, cafés, music venues, jazz shops, art galleries and the best restaurants in town for quality price ratio make the Oltrarno the trendiest district of Florence.

The check in time is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m and the check out is at 10.00 a.m.

A security deposit of 200 euros to be paid on arrival will be given back to guests on departure after checking for damage or breakage.

Since 2014 the City of Florence has enforced a tourist tax for flats. Such tax rate is 2,50 euros per adult per night for a maximum of 7 consecutive nights. Children below 12 years old are exempted. Such amount shall be collected in cash at check-in, and paid by the flat owner to the City of Florence on a monthly basis - see" and

Tourists arriving in Italy must submit a declaration of presence form to a local police office within 1 day of arrival. A photocopy of the main page of the passport of every guest is hence required (alternatively passport details such as number [only for the head odf the family or group], date and country of birth, citizenship), before arrival or at check- in.

About The Owner

My name is Gaia. I am an economist but have worked in movies as production secretary and script critic, and currently for a museums' photo agency so I

often deal with Florence's art. I am fluent in English and French, and speak a little Spanish. I am married with a photographer and chef, and we have a 10

years old daughter. I grew up in Rome and have briefly lived in France - and in Florence since 1997. I love meeting people from other cultures.

Why The Owner chose Florence

I wanted a safe, quiet, comfortable, clean, and fully-functional flat as a future home for my daughter in the Oltrarno, which is my favourite district. Oltrarno preserved until today a truly Florentine atmosphere made of art and artisans, squares where people meet and live together, shops and unique workshops, cafes and restaurants, world-famous and lesser-known museums and monuments - and a way of life you cannot find in other quarters of Florence.

What makes this apartment unique

What I especially liked besides the ideal location allowing you to walk to the main attraction points, is the twin beds mezzanine, the kitchen internal window openind onto the adjacent dining area, the two bathrooms, the high ceilings and the quietness of the loft.

Fantastic Apartment

  • 5 of 5

I am long overdue to write this review... We loved staying in Gaia's apt. Communication from the start was regular and precise and both Gaia and Christina were more than helpful. We had no worries at all on arrival. The apartment itself was perfect for my family of four (2 parents and two 20 year olds..) The location couldn't be better. We felt like we were part of the neighborhood. Market close by as well as great local restaurants and cafe's. The AC in the living area was great after long days walking. So much better than a hotel - we really felt the culture of the area by staying in the Oltarno. Can't wait to visit again!!

Fabulous central location

  • 5 of 5

A real treat to stay in this apartment. no more than 50 meters from the best gelato shop in Florence and 60 meters from the River Arno. The facilities in the 1st floor flat are great and it is in a really traditional Italian building which is a big bonus. The flat is tastefully decorated, with modern facilities and good wifi. The loft space is fun and my tall teenagers did not mind ducking to get into bed. The apartment feels very safe with a main street door an internal gate and a very safe front door! Ms Christina met us on arrival and was very kind, she put on the air conditioning before we arrived. with a welcoming bottle of Prosecco. Gaia was excellent at keeping in touch prior to our arrival. I would recommend staying for 3 days at least, if you want to make the most of Florence. We also fitted in a day trip to Pisa. The train station is only a 10 minute walk and the bus to the airport leaves from the train station also. Really handy!

thank you for the great memories! x

Fantastic location and wonderful host

  • 5 of 5

It was a quick 20 minute walk from the train station. Christina was waiting at the door to show us up to the apartment. She was a great help to show us around the apartment and where to find the supermarket (just a few mintues down the street). There is an elevator, which some of us took advantage of at the end of long hot days exploring. The loft got a little warm at night for sleeping and the air conditioning didn't seem to make it up there but there were fans to help keep the air moving.

Gaia was even kind enough to leave us some bottled water in the fridge and some snacks for our arrival. The Prosecco did not go to waste as we thourgly enjoyed it with dinner one night.

Gaia was quick to respond when we had any questions before and during our trip. She even helped us find the fantastic balsamic she had in the kitchen so we could take some home.

We would for sure stay at this apartment if we are lucky enough to return to Florence in our future travels.

Cool, quiet Oltrarno loft at Ponte alla Carraia

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect base for our 6 day Florence holiday. It was perfect for our family of 4 (2 teens) with shuttered windows facing an inner courtyard (dark, quiet for sleeping) and high ceilings and plenty of space to relax. The apartment had everything we needed, any Gaia and Christina were so helpful and provided tips to enjoy all Florence has to offer.

We have friends who have been returning to see different parts of Italy over the last few years, and we will certainly be recommending this loft for their Florence trip!

Wonderful location, extremely quiet, excellent A/C's, great kitchen including dishwasher!

  • 5 of 5

Location is just across the Arno on the Oltrarno side and very near the alla Carraria Gelateria.

Location is 15 minutes easy walk to Firenze SMN train station. 2 minute walk to store with deli, a bread and sweet roll bakery, a fresh pasta store and laundry. Apartment has a washing machine and clothes can be dried just down the street at laundry.

Extremely clean, well laid out and appointed apartment. Dishes, pots and pans

and glasses for 6-8 people.

Cooking in kitchen is a easy and cost saving option.

Beds were very comfortable.

We rented the apartment for 45 days and plan on doing so in the future.

Highly recommended is an understatement!
