This lovely cottage is located directly across from the New Castle Commons Park. Cross the street and you are at the park and the beach. 5 minute car ride from The Wentworth by the Sea Hotel, 10 minutes to downtown Portsmouth. Beautiful walking area. Go back to yesteryears, enter grandma's old cottage with cozy spaces. The cottage has three bedrooms each with double beds. Plenty of parking spaces.
The entire cottage is available for a family vacation, it features a great back yard with ample space to explore. In addition, the beach, the park, and the public library are across the street. Come and disconnect from your daily routine and soak in the beach breeze. Bring your bikes and walking shoes. It's a great area to be outside and go for a stroll or a bike ride.
New Castle is a lovely New England town with a beautiful downtown that features a church, a local food store, a post office and our town offices with police and fire departments. The cottage is located within walking distance of down town.
Bring your bicycle, running shoes, kayaks, and enjoy the scenery. The cottage is located within a ten minute drive to downtown Portsmouth. However, on beautiful days many locals bike or take a long walk there.
We gathered at "the cottage in front of the park" for a family gathering over Christmas, 2016. We were very comfortable, and had a great time! It literally is a couple minute's walk to the beach and a park with a children's playground. I can only imagine how great this location would be for a summer stay! I was most impressed with the large, comfortable, and well equipped kitchen, including a variety of baking pans. We spent much of our time around the big table, doing puzzles, or playing board games. There is a wonderful porch, with windows all 'round, which would be great in the summer. Sara was very attentive when we had a problem with the wireless connection. I would definitely recommend this cottage, which is not fancy, but certainly comfortable. In fact my four year old granddaughter keeps asking when we can go back to "Miss Sara's cottage"!
This house is in a perfect location right across the street from the beach! Is a little outdated but very clean and has everything that you'd need!
We had a truly wonderful time at this cottage. Seriously, if you have kids, look no further than this house. It is directly across the street from a beautiful park with large, grassy spaces, a playground, a protected, sandy beach, and rocky shore. It has picnic tables and grills throughout, and is free if you walk in (which you will, because you will be staying directly across the street). We walked in and out of the park numerous times per day, and our kids loved it. It is an amazing place to go to watch the sunset.
Equally lovely is the public library, also across the street from the cottage. It has a great children's section with games, puzzles, and toys in addition to books. On days when the temps were in the 90s, the library was air conditioned and our kids entertained themselves. The librarian was lovely and let us check books out for the week we were in town.
Sara was very responsive during our stay, and came by three times during the week to drop off things we needed, including an extra flashlight when the electricity went out in the neighborhood during a thunderstorm. We could always reach her quickly via text.
The cottage is comfortable and equipped with the basics. I loved the clothesline out back for hanging our wet swim stuff, and the big lawn in front where the kids ran and played. The screened-in porch is a nice place to eat meals, and the washer and dryer in the kitchen are convenient. Bring a knife or two, as the knives provided were not very sharp. We found the kitchen equipped with laundry detergent, oil, paper towels, and some foodstuffs left by other renters.
Overall a perfect place to stay as a family. We had 4 adults and 3 kids there and were comfortable and happy. We hope to return soon.
OUR host was AWESOME...Sara met us and showed us around..the house is located right across from the beach at the commons state park which has some of the most beautiful scenery and is very picturesque...a short drive into PORTSMOUTH IS LESS THAN 5 MINUTES...we happened to catch the hottest week of the year and with no air it still was ok...open windows and fans helped...nothing fancy just a beautifully located cottage in the heart of Newcastle...our beautiful and gracious host was helpful and i would RECOMMEND it to anyone TOM OLEARY
We needed an affordable and very close location to the Wentworth Hotel for a wedding for 6 people. It had everything we needed-beds, and a bathroom plus some. The place had all the amenities noted in the description. There was plenty of bath towels. I really appreciated that they also stocked the bathroom too with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash--my husband had my bathroom kit in his suitcase and he was away on a bachelor party. I didn't look that hard, but from what I saw there were maybe 2-3 beach towels there.
The place is definitely very very dated in regards to the interior structures, and could use some touching up (such as windows, doors, and flooring). The good part was that the place still felt clean and comfortable despite its age. We spent the majority of our time exploring so the interior didn't bother us.
We were worried about the weather being too hot during our stay since the place did not have any AC, but it all worked out since there was a constant breeze from the sea that kept the place comfortable. There was a fan in two of the bedrooms. The owner was very nice, friendly, flexibly, and easy to get a hold of whenever you did have a question or needed something. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, glassware, and plates. Definitely grateful for the coffee and the coffee machine available. Thank you Sara for stocking it well!
**There was a storm that went through and the lights briefly went out. I would highly recommend stocking the place with some candles, matches, and flashlights, and a note of the breaker's location if needed (I couldn't find any at the time of the storm). **
The sea is literally across the street you do need to pay a fee in order to use the park. It is a beautiful park, and worth the cost to get in. Walking distance to the Wentworth Hotel, and quick easy drive to Portsmouth. Overall, we are very very happy to have found this place and were able to stay there. The location was perfect, and it had all the essentials we needed.
My family and I would love to come back here again! We would recommend this place for our family and friends with the warning to disregard the age of the place. It is worth it!

The cottage was exactly as advertised-- clean, comfortable, and 'no-frills'. Truly a stereotypical cottage by the beach! The location was better than expected. The park is seriously right across the street and it's beautiful! This was a wonderful place to get away with our almost-grown kids and the dog. We hope to squeeze in another visit this summer!
