About Merle and Karen Thompson

Merle has lived in New Harbor his whole life, and Karen has been here for 35 years. Karen grew up in the Boston area and was a guest at Thompson Cottages since she was a baby. New Harbor is our year-round home.

Merle and Karen Thompson purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Merle and Karen Thompson chose New Harbor

Our family has owned this property since 1920 and we, the third generation to own it, have been its stewards since 2000. The property is a treasure to us and our family, and we care for everything with great attention to detail and love. We live here year-round, and we enjoy having our guests return year after year to a place that comes to mean a great deal to them, too. We are always excited to have new guests and to see them enjoy the beautiful Midcoast area as much as we do.

What makes this cottage unique

All cottages feature oil paintings by Merle's grandfather, G. H. Thompson, a nationally known artist, as well as some by the many artists who come here to work. We offer a library with books, puzzles, and games for the family to play by the fireplace and kitchens equipped for preparing lobster dinners.

Coziness, cleanliness, and peace are our hallmarks. Being responsible stewards of our beautiful unspoiled area is very important to us.
