Imagine staying in a home built BEFORE the Revolutionary War, the stories its whitewashed 2-foot thick stone walls and original pine floors could tell. Located on the original "King's Road" that connects Princeton to the village of Lawrenceville, the William Rouse Homestead is a charming18th century stone Georgian Colonial farmhouse fully modernized for 21st century living. This finely appointed home offers convenient access to Princeton University and Palmer Square - just 4.7 miles away.
The home's ORIGINAL carved antique front door leads to a large & sunny 24" front parlor/living room with floor to ceiling windows and Victorian-era hardwood floors, woodwork and trim. A wide arch leads into the 2nd parlor providing a large formal dining room and a sitting room area in front of the fireplace, and the room provides a picture-perfect view through its large picture window, of the property's 100-yr old ornamental Japanese maple tree.
A sunny & modern kitchen overlooks the yard, and is adjacent to a cozy family room/den and a small bathroom.
Upstairs you will find 3 bedrooms with a shared hall bath, the home's original wide-plank pumpkin pine floors and much original, colonial woodwork and details preserved.
This landmarked 3BR/2BA home sits on a nearly 1/2 acre town lot with its front yard overlooking a community farm directly across the street. A large partially-fenced back yard with blue stone patio, grassy areas to explore and a detached garage with parking for ONE (1) car.
Ideal accommodations for visiting professors or professionals seeking a home-away-from-home ... or the perfect venue for family-or-friends' gatherings, reunions and holidays. (Perfectly outfitted for entertaining with settings/service for 8) For the home chef, nearby farm-to-table opportunities abound - as you are surrounded by local farms & orchards and their farm stand offerings of fresh seasonal produce, local creamery cheeses, wineries, fresh eggs and other specialty items.
Originally constructed in the 1700's then later renovated during the early Victorian era by William Rouse, it was the homestead to one of the area's large family farms - parts of which remain actively farmed today, including the Lawrenceville Community Garden across the street and Cherry Grove Farm, just up the road.
Situated at the northern end of the village of Lawrenceville - the home is strolling distance into the village center where you will find cafes, restaurants, post office and of course, an essential Starbucks. The home is 1 mile / walk-able to a prestigious boarding school (The Lawrenceville School).
Beyond the immediate neighborhood, explore the charm of world-class Ivy League college town of Princeton, with its history and cultural attractions, and enjoy easy access to nearby (PA) Bucks County for antiquing and exploring, as well NYC and Philadelphia by train or auto.
