About Louise Bourne
I am a painter and teach at three colleges. Living with such natural beauty, with access to a vibrant, creative community, are a blessing.
Louise Bourne purchased this House in 1998
Why Louise Bourne chose Sedgwick
This is a year round house, warmed by the sun in the winter, cooled by oak shade and breezes in the summer. The windows look out at the lovely surroundings. Walking, swimming, kayaking, x-c skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, even running, are all right here on the property. The living room has a piano and drum set (and couches!). It's a great place to spend any time of year.
What makes this House unique
This is a perfect vacation and year round home. You can make it your creative retreat, and/or your family home with room for badminton and whiffle ball, a place to swim, and sitings of fox, otter, deer, sea ducks, warblers, eagles, osprey, coyote, etc. Within 7 miles, you can buy great food, wine, coffee and books, and send your child to school. The house has varnished wood, clay tile, cork and painted wood floors, enamel sinks and walk-in tiled shower.

Peaceful and private vacation home near so much on Blue Hill Peninsula
Just returned from a 2-week stay at this home on the Blue Hill Peninsula and we had a lovely vacation there! We arrived to a clean home ready for us with a loaf of bread and veggies from the garden ready for picking. Sleeping was easy, beds were comfortable, bathroom was roomy for our family and the house was nicely laid out for moving around, playing board games, spending time together or finding a spot to read in quiet. Wifi was, of course, available and used by all of us but we also played board games and got out every day to go somewhere new.
But my favorite part of vacation is how I feel when I stay somewhere and on that count this home was perfect: there was a garden with fresh veggies to pick, a lovely path to the Bagaduce River where we were able to swim, and if you had kayaks to launch you could. The meadows were exactly what our dog needed and she was as happy as could be. Louise was attentive and very nice, very friendly, and responded to my questions (even when I repeated them) very quickly. The house was nicely laid out with windows situated so that you could take advantage of the evening breezes and everything was very comfortable. The stars at night were a surprise - there is very little ambient light and the sky becomes a wonder to look at.
It could not have been more perfect for us and I am grateful to have rented from someone so easy to deal with. Art work all over the house made for a nice, personal touch and we even used most of the musical instruments! Games, farmer's markets, gorgeous hikes and places to kayak, swim, dine and take boat excursions are everywhere both on the peninsula and on nearby Deer Isle (which we love). Acadia National Park was only an hour away and we were able to get there several times for biking, hiking, swimming and some dinner after. Wine, good food, easy shopping, galleries and the nicest book store all within 10 to 30 minutes (good grocery store was the closest at about 10 minutes, Blue Hill galleries and lovely small town only a little further, Deer Isle about 20 to 35 minutes depending on where you want to go on the Islands). PLENTY to do in the area, and we did as much as we could.
Lovely unique home!
My family of 4 stayed in this home July 2016 and loved it. Great for teenagers. Great for people who enjoy rural coastal Maine. Great for art-lovers. Wonderful place to relax, enjoy family, explore local area, and easy hour-or-so drive to Acadia if you want to go. And we arrived to freshly baked bread!
great vacation home!
Our stay at this property was splendid! It is a lovely home with lots of space and entertainment options.
The owner had several musical instruments - including piano, drums, guitar, ukulele and others lying around in the house. Also, there were card and board games that we could enjoy. Furthermore, there were badminton sets and a frisbee for outdoor entertainment.
The owner even left us a loaf of bread (which was delicious) and several notes on different parts of the house for our convenience. She was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this property!
