This peaceful seaside holiday house is a perfect base to explore the Dingle Peninsula in Co. Kerry or to stay put and walk to the local beautiful beaches. The house is at the end of a peninsula with open sea-views and beach access all around. The house is currently a family home with two small children and is very family friendly. The photos will be complete when we move out. Please contact me for more information about the house in the meantime. The house sleeps a maximum of seven guests in four bedrooms. There are two bedrooms with double (full/queen) beds and two smaller rooms with bunk beds and a twin bed. There is good size living space between the kitchen, sitting room, conservatory and back patio. The guests will have full use of the house and the garden. There is a back patio, deck, swing set, BBQ. There are beaches within walking distance of the house, including at the end of the cliff out front. The house is situated in a private garden that includes another small rental cottage. There could be guests in this cottage (max 2) but there is a separate parking/outdoor space for them and noise does not travel between the houses. We lived next door to this cottage last summer and rarely saw the guests coming and going.

The Maharees is a sandy peninsula on the northern side of the Dingle Peninsula outside the village of Castlegregory. It is a very popular holiday destination because of the unique beauty between the mountains and the sea.
The Maharees consists of two small clusters of houses called Kilshannig and Fahamore, but the whole area is known as the Maharees because of the seven Maharee Islands just off the shore. Long sandy beaches flank both sides of the peninsula and offer opportunities for walking, relaxing or water sports. Brandon Bay is a world famous wind surfing spot and popular surf spot. Tralee Bay offers calmer swimming and waters sports for children at Sandy Bay. Scraggane Bay and Sandy Bay are perfect to try Stand Up Paddling and there are equipment rentals and lessons for all water sports available through two local companies.
The local beaches are all within five km from the holiday homes and there is a small cove directly in front of the property. Scraggane Bay and Tralee Bay are just a five minute walk down the road or guests can relax in the house and garden and enjoy the sea breeze and views without moving at all.
The area is very popular with walkers and hikers of all levels. Mount Brandon, Ireland’s second highest mountain can be climbed from Cloghane or Dingle. The local area offers great birdwatching and sean and lake fishing, as well.
The Green Room Bar and Spillane’s Bar & Restaurant are both an easy reach by foot, bike or car. The Island’s Restaurant overlooks the pier in Fahamore and opens for lunch and dinner in the summer. There are more pubs and restaurants in the village and Dingle has some of the best restaurants in the country. There is a farmer’s market in Dingle on Friday morning, one in Tralee on Saturday morning and a Country Market in Castlegregory on Sunday mornings in the summer.
The Dingle Peninsula is home to many talented artists and craft producers, some of which work in Castlegregory. More information can be found online and locally about Original Kerry craft trails, where guests can visit artisans' workshops.
Castlegregory village lies halfway between Tralee and Dingle and is easily accessible from either town. It is a great location for exploring the South West of Ireland and the many beautiful attractions in County Kerry. It is also a must-see stop on the new Wild Atlantic Way that runs down Ireland’s west coast (http://www.wildatlanticway.com/home/). The village has a small supermarket, ATM (inside the Spar), post office, hair & beauty salons, Church, pharmacy, cafe, restaurants and pubs.
Although Castlegregory is very popular in the summer, wilder weather in winter gives guests a unique experience and taste of life on Ireland's west coast. The Periwinkle is a great spot for cosying up, reading a book and watching the waves and wind batter the islands. It is perfect for guests looking for time to think or be creative.
Year Purchased: 2010
About: I am originally from Maine but have been living in Ireland since 2005. My husband is from the area and we moved out to the Maharees in 2010 from Tralee. We updated the house and lived lived here with our two young children. We are moving to Maine and would love other families to enjoy the peaceful and unique beauty of this property. We have lots of advice and knowledge for travelers new to Ireland. Kerry is the highlight of any trip and and it offers enough contrasting landscape between the lakes of Killarney, the rocky coast of the Ring of Kerry and the cliffs of Slea Head and dunes of the Maharees to satisfy any visitor.
